app store

i have to say that i bought every game i play over the mac app store.
Xcom, BL2, Tropico 4, COD4, Dirt 2, Grid, Batman AA & Batman GC, Trine 1&2, Rage, Doom 3.

i also play blizz games: SC2 and D3

i am always aware of the cons buying games over the App Store. sometimes no multiplayer, sometimes just multiplayer with app store gamers, later releases, later patches and so on.

i do not understand why people blame this way of getting games? just buy over the app store. so devs and apple get more interested in this platform. maybe they integrate other technologies in their game center.

i have to say if i compare the app store to steam apple does a much better job for me. sadly not enough people support the work with buying over the store.

keep working hard and try to integrate better multiplayer in lots of the games. Grid for example needs gameranger ... thats really poor i have to say... but sadly understandable ...

cheers

ps.: off topic... mavericks gpu performance: is there more to come with 10.9.1? any infos?

thx

Good news GRID (and all our Feral games so far) have always had Game Ranger support in the Mac AppStore from initial launch onwards.

However in recent years Apple toughened up the rules on code injection (which is how Game Ranger works and is also how some mallware works) so you need to install a support shim from the support site. This is all documented on the support site and the documentation that comes with the game!

You can play anything from Empire to GRID on your Mac with the AppStore version just read the instructions :)

Enjoy

Edwin

Just to be clear, I don't think anybody is blaming you guys for this, I certainly am not. I completely understand you're putting hard work and devotion in it. It just raises a broader question on is it wise to buy games via the Mac Appstore...

In all fairness, I just bought xcom again on steam together with enemy within... It's on discount on steam, so I figured what the heck.. It will give me many hours of entertainment and its worth it... still strange that I have to do this when I already own a legal copy... guess im just impatient :p

Sorry, I wasn't blaming anyone. I was just stating that it wasn't submitted yet. There were people blaming Apple for the delays, just trying to set them straight. ;)

I guess the last few weeks of my life have been a very vivid dream ;) Then again I have been pretty sleep deprived in the last month or so. Good thing I can operate on less than 6 hours of sleep for months at a time.

Now where's the coffee...

XCOM is now approved by all the required parties is available on all none Steam stores including the Mac AppStore!

Cheers,

Edwin

So I purchased XCOM Enemy Unknown when it first came out - on a windows machine (before I owned my iMac) on Steam. I now play it native on the MAC in OSX, however Enemy Within is now available on the APP Store - I have many credits on the APP store to spend - how can I get the Steam purchased XCOM to update with a APP store APP? Is this even possible. Is there a way for the APP store to see the STEAM or other installed items on the Machine that are available in the APP store a being installed?

Thanks in advance

Tom

i prefer mac app store too.

I hope that Feral/Aspyr will use most the app store.

you misunderstood me. i am know that there is a game ranger multiplayer patch.
i know you can play (grid, Xcom .....) over game ranger...

what i meant was that i would love to see multiplayer over Game Center ... i do not want to install gameranger or steam ... i have to say that i hate this software it is not the "clean" way of playing ... i love mac app store ... i can install the games ... i do not have to run software to run games ...

so i would love to see better support form apple giving you devs the possibility to make game center a good platform to play invite or find players ...

cheers

Thanks for all the understanding and support we really appreciate it and want to pay you all back with a great bug free experience as quickly as possible.

Edwin

Not much luck there. The game is out (thanks for that) but just won't install.
It downloads the DLC again and again. Then just hangs while installing (last time it was six hours) and then resets the downloaded data and downloads the DLC again.

so much waiting for nothing

The Mac version is on Steam, just log into Steam on your Mac and play. You don't need to buy it again on the Mac AppStore.

Mac App Store and Steam are different stores and you cannot update one copy using the other system.

When possible we support GameCentre but it has limitations that make it hard to have a stable multiplayer experience.

Hi Edwin,

A message has appeared on my gamersgate.co.uk page, telling me:

Enter your DLC key into the pre-game Options window of XCOM: Enemy Unknown - Elite Edition in order to activate XCOM: Enemy Within.

I'm not seeing any pre-game screen, only the in-game options. There's no mention of DLC among these options. Is there a modifier key for startup or something I'm missing here?

*edit* OK, got it. Cmd key at launch, but only when double clicking the app. Doesn't work from the dock.

Welcome to the world of Apple bugs :(

Glad you got it solved.

Have already played through on my Mac. But now I'm only playing it on the iPad. XCOM is truly perfect there, so here's to hoping that content won't be far away there.

Hi Edwin,

I have purchased Enemy Within on the Mac App Store however after installing the patch the DLC still refuses to download - stopping almost imediately with an error message saying failed to download or just not progressing at all.

Is this a common problem and should we wait for another patch or can you please provide any advice to resolve this issue. I have tried a full game re-installation pre-patching with no success.

Thank you in advance of any assistance.

It is happening to ~1% of users based on server results. Ping our support we have a manual way around the problem if you have download issues.

Edwin,

Thank you for your advice and the assistance of a Feral Support.

Enemy Within is now running perfectly on my rMBP.

This is the best game I have played in over 30 years of gaming :)

FYI a bundle with xcom EU and EW is available for $50 on steam. $65 on Mac store to purchase EU first then EW as dlc. No brainer.
