Man for a free app this thing is amazing. It did do turn by turn navigation and the robotic voice was there too.

Very nice for being free and people creating this in their spare time.

One thing I noticed is that it tells me turns are coming up in meters instead of feet or something like that.

I've been out of the country on vacation and am stunned to see this released already. :) I can't wait to go to the grocery store to try it out.

When I read this, I instantly realized how a jailbroken iPhone can make even a trip to the grocery store 1000% more enjoyable... :D

Finding the app? I just hit the search button in cydia and typed xgps.

I went to the grocery store. Damn thing works pretty good! I have to wrap my head around the voice referring to meters and get that stuck in my head - the rough conversion. The visual piece was dead on. Even the mph was accurate.

It's a winner IMO. Nice of them to give this to us for free.

Its beyond me how anyone has said he internal gps chip is not good enough for turn by turn directions. After hearing that I wasn't expecting much of xgps but must say I was pleasently surprised at how accurate it is and how up to date it stays.

Very well done!

When I took my backwards sort of way home that it didn't like - then recalculated for me, it even told me to go a certain way that I wasn't familiar with. I actually thought the road was a dead-end all this time. doh!

I'm thinking I'll likely donate to these guys. A tip I guess. Props to them.

I had the older version installed from cydia.. it said there was an update (in cydia), so i updated to this version with voice..

However, now, even standing outside i too only get a "poor" signal from the iphone 3g gps (before it would say good).. i've enabled voice navigation too, set it to english there is no voice.. it just plain doesn't work..

Any thoughts or suggestions? Would removing it and re-adding it fix this issue?

Thanks

hello,
i have xgps installed. and i am happy with it. but just today i was testing it out, i live in a rural part of upstate ny. i was going to go to a local stewarts, which is a convenient store. i found stewarts in lowville ny and typed in my address of my parent's house. xgps crashed a couple of times. then i was going to the convenient store i already know where it is and was just testing xgps, it said to take a left which i did then it said in like a 1000m to take another left i think, and i knew from where i was that i couldn't take a left. and it didn't recalculate my route, like as i was approaching the store it didn't announce it. i am not complaing. one thing i did was go into google maps, and got walking and driving directions from my parent's house to the convenient store and google maps gave a different route for driving than walking. the driving route was correct, as far as i know. but the walking route seemed to be the same as the driving route in xgps. i really don't have any question, i just thought that maybe someone could give me some tips as how to try to use xgps.

Just a note, i uninstalled, reinstalled.. now both voice and gps are working, though for some reason it will frequently crash back to the springboard.

just tested xgps further, a couple of things:
1. when xgps said 1000m i thought that was to early to tell me directions. but xgps would give another direction as i got closer, so that was good.
2. xgps took me to a street close to where i wanted to go i.e. as i was approaching the convenient store it was on the right and xgps said to take a left, that was bothering me. i drove the same route and took the left and right away xgps said "you have arrived at a certain road".
3.the wrong way indicator shows up even though i am going the right way and the most annoying thing is that xgps will stop giving tbt like i will be going along on the right road and the wrong way indicator will start flashing and then the driving directions and voice instructions stop working.
4. me and my mom were driving and we intentionally took a wrong turn and xgps didn't recalculate the route.
5. it would be nice to have the ability to play the ipod and have the music cutoff when a turn comes up.

You have to press the "Wrong Way" indicator if you intentionally go off your route, then it will recalculate.

i originally was excited about xgps. but after testing it i am not sure what to think. i took a trip today and xgps said to take a left into a dead end of a gas station when i was trying to go to the library. also it told me at one point that i was entering pennsylvania when i live in upstate new york. i hope they come up with an update.

I have xgps and i went to tools options and it says voice command on. What else do I have to push?

WOW. This program is pretty incredible. I can't believe it took me this long to find it.

I'm using it just as a replacement for GMDL/Maps Offline (or is it Offline Maps?) to access maps for foreign travel. Hugely impressive ease-of-use and interface. Everything is so slick and well thought through! Massive props to its creators.

The only disadvantage that I can see compared to my old method is that there's no bookmarking feature, but it's a pretty small thing.

Is this app no longer available in Cydia, I just went back to jailbreak and can't seem to find it?

try checking again. I just checked on mine and found it.

I really love this app. It's worked perfect everytime i've used it. My only gripe would be that I wish it would have an option to avoid highways/freeways/toll roads.
