Yup, there's been a notable rise in Xiaomi copycats in the last year in the stores here, not just from the device and OS but blatant packaging and branding copying. Some of the boxes and logo design look identical copying the 'mi' brand like-for-like. To an average consumer they'd look like they're from the same company.

As for the real Xiaomi and these notes, the LTE compatibility internationally is a concern although GSMarena had a story about them being both TD (Chinese) and FDD (International) compatible to some degree.

My biggest want would be the software making use of the screen/resolution. Given there's no stylus then split screen and multitasking, especially with 4gb RAM, is a must. I use multi window and split screen on the Note 4 every day as well as S-Pen so it'd be a steep down regardless of cost savings.

Now there's a firm push for flagships at 5.5 inches and beyond with QHD, I hope more attention is paid to using it better.

And Xiaomi needs to stop whining about the cloners that copy them. If you want to dish it out you gotta learn to take it.

It is almost funny isn't it? Xiaomi shamelessly copy the mobile giants Apple and Samsung and moan when they are copied! This is what I find strange about Xiaomi. They have potential to make some very good devices, yet have chosen to use the association to successful brands in order to market their own products.

I know everybody copies to a degree, but they have gone beyond nicking the odd feature here and there and have actually almost created a fake in some cases based on pure aesthetics. Lenovo are guilty of this too with a device that on first glance looked like an iPhone 5. These companies have decent reputations and are capable of producing good products, why don't they find their own style? Probably because using an association is an easy way to get sales.

Meh let China have their little terrible copyclone -- it's all they have. They're toast if they ever try to take their trash out to any actual country.

its funny Apple attacking others about copying when Jobs himself admit Sony products and design have inspirated him (in fact, first iPhone have been inspirated by a Sony Ericsson phone not Samsung)
I would rather call as inspirating than copying
Why Apple wouldn't attack and sue Sony for their Xperia?
They know they are themselves copiers as well :p

Can the tech community please stop fawning over cheap Chinese knockoffs because it's just getting silly at this point and becoming hard to take you all seriously.
Yeah because expensive Chinese made cellphones are so much better? cough, Apple, cough.
I don't understand the whole copying is a bad thing in some industries. Do we think consumers are that stupid not to know the difference? People buy what they can afford. From a design point of view if the design is pleasing then that is part of the story but not all. I'm not talking about clones that are complete copies, including store fronts and packaging. The arguement that the similar design steals business from the copied is somewhat tenable only within the same ecosystem. People seem to like smooth thin glass smartphones. Should one or two of the richest companies in the world own that design? Is every blue 4 door car a copy of another? Every toaster? It's ironic that Android is heralded as an open system, but the delivery system is expected to be old school locked down.
