Thanks for the comments :)

It seems like flashtool will work with new phones going forward because this is a Sony sanctioned tool right?
Its unofficial one very smilair to Sony Ericsson Update Service (dead) which also allowed you to downgrade/upgrade and wipe cache/data unlike PC Companion (official software)

Is it just US models that have locked bootloaders?

The carrier models do, even T-Mobile which that is not normal for. Sony does sell unlocked phones with unlockable bootloaders in the us via online though.

Apparently unlocking the bootloader wipes what they call a ta partition, with drm keys that effect things like camera , Bravia stuff , not sure what else. I'm not willing to give that up.

They figured out if they can get root in the device without unlocking the bootloader (via exploit instead) , you can back up this partition , leaving you free then to unlock the bootloader with the ability to restore the keys that are wiped during the unlock.

Apparently this Sony flashtool seems to give you the ability to always downgrade to the android version that had the exploit method (or any other available version for the phone), leaving those even with locked bootloader, always a way to get root. Even ability to flash these cooked prerooted images that give them root on most recent nonvulnerable firmware.

When a new Sony phone comes out , exploit root method will be required again to get this rolling on said device , if things stay the same.

If I'm understanding :)

T-mobile did not lock the bootloader on the S6. But there is a strong rumor from an XDA user who mistakenly was allowed to OTA update to 5.1.1 with video evidence of the bootloader being locked after update.

Yes, once you ll figure out how works Flashtool and how to backup TA partition, you ll good to start rooting process without much trouble
I must thanks those guys from XDA, they kept working to find exploit until to make root possible
All you need its reading carefully XDA (Z3/Z3C section)
It works for entire Z3 familly including Tablet and Z3 ;)

Well I decided that I'm so impressed and happy with my Z3, magnetic dock, tempered glass protectors, PS4 controller for remote play that the Z3 is perhaps my most pleasurable android phone in a year. Quite a feat for me.

Software experience on Lollipop is excellent, screen is great overall especially in daylight.

My biggest complaint however is Sony Transfer Tool for Mac is desperately slow at transferring files.

That's what I want to hear!

I think I am going to wait for next gen, don't know whether I want to go compact or not. Wish I could see them in person. Perhaps at the Sony store in Orlando.

I take it you mean glass on both sides?

Yep, I got the tempered glass for both and I got one with a really good oleophobic coating to reduce finger prints too :)

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Just wanted to say, anyone thinking of getting an Xperia Z3 should hold off. Sony have several press events planned for next week and are said to be launching some new phones, at the very least it is expected to announce the Z4 for international markets.

I doubt I would notice the difference with my usage and besides I would not get the price I did buying from CL.

Great phone, I am a very happy camper and I am glad I did not go for the S6 or M9 instead for this size display.

Me too, tempered glasses on both sides all the way
Dont need case/cover anymore
I have Nillkin H+ on front and Devilcase on the rear
Compact its the best of two, sightly better battery life due to 720p and its size
Compact means it would perfectly fit in your pocket :p
I am looking forward Z4 Ultra if Sony dare to release it (first Ultra doesnt seem to meet huge success)
Compact as smartphone
Ultra as tablet lol :p

I am waiting. I had a play with the S6 and it's build quality is amazing, very premium, plus it is a really nice size and the cameras great, but I really don't like TouchWiz and can't be doing with routing a phone etc, tablet yes but not my phone.
So far for me that leaves the rumoured new LG Nexus, the rumoured smaller LG G4 so long as it keeps the high end specs. Or what ever Sony launch, my Sony tablet has really surprised me, they have done really well with the software as MRU has said, next to my Nexus 5 it is a really light skin but has some great and useful enhancements.

I do find the Z3 still too big for me though because of the end bezels, so I will be very interested to see what the Z5 ends up as, or even the Compact model.

I want a device I can keep for a while, I did look at the iPhone 6 but Apples price gouging price just churns my stomach, 16GB is too small and the 64GB is just too much money for a phone, I buy my phones off contract.
