Yep. Just made the account after reading your post earlier.

While online i noticed a new yahoo msg alert about an hour ago...I didn't bother checking my phone. While reading this I just checked and it still had not hit the phone. Though touching the mail app did send it to update and alas...there is the mail. Maybe yahoo push means push/touch the mail icon.

A couple of months ago when I first got my iPhone a read a post where someone said you need to do the following the 1st time you start to use Yahoo Push Email.

1. Delete your Yahoo Account
2. Turn off WiFi
3. Power Reset your phone
4. Add back your Yahoo Account
5. Wait for Push to start Working
6. Once it starts working you can start using Wifi again.

The person said that this would need for Yahoo to set things up correctly.

Not sure if it was true but this is how I originally got it to work.

For me, I have noticed that I have "Old" Mail that was previous deleted keeps re-appearing. Until I delete the "Old" mail my iPhone will not download any new mail. This happened quite a few times to me. My account has not yet been to the new Yahoo Servers.

You forgot #7: Swing a rubber chicken above your head while saying "You've Got Mail!" 7 times.

Seriously though, I have yet to get Yahoo! to push and the so-called Syncing of Mail accounts seems to be nothing.

Ok so to be more thorough, I made ANOTHER new account and emailed it several times from several different addresses. Once again the push worked awesome. I got all the emails within a minute of sending them. I may try contacting yahoos and getting their input.

What does that mean? Are you talking about iTunes Mail Sync? If so, un-check that and don't use it. Did you only setup 1 email account on your iPhone and did you JUST select Yahoo Mail and enter your email address and password? Are you at least able to switch between folders on your iPhone mail (InBox / Sent / etc). If so, it should say "Connecting" / "Checking for Mail" / "Updated". Have you logged into Yahoo Mail via your browser? If so, have you delete all mail and then restart the checking folders on your iPhone?

I actually just got push to work. And yes I was referring to iTunes Mail Sync. I tried using that with my Gmail account thinking it would sync mail between Mail.app and the iPhone as it implies, but it appears to do absolutely nothing at all.

Willing to try anything, I gave this ago. To my utter amazement it worked....for about a minute. I sent 5 emails to my yahoo account. All 5 came through on my iPhone within 10-15 seconds. But, I sent 3 more just to continue to test it and 15min later Im still waiting for those.

Maybe I should have bought that rubber chicken.

Do you OLD mail in your account? If so, delete it, then back to iphne and just switch folders until starts again. I have had it work good for up to about 3 days max before failing like this.

That is my experience generally. Sometimes seconds, sometimes hours. Strange...I would think it should either work or not rather than sort of.

When you say delete your yahoo account, you mean from the iPhone, right? (not deleting/reinstating your yahoo account in order to move it to their "new" servers)... Forgive me if that sounds utterly ridiculous.

I give up. Once I sent an email to Yahoo asking about it, push finally starts working on my original email account. Apparently it's just intermittent. Hopefully it'll get better soon.

My experience as well - it seems to push very quickly the first time and then stops pushing new emails until i turn the phone off and on.

Haven't you guys heard? There is no such thing as push email. It's just this urban legend, something that fleetingly happens to certain lucky people infrequently. Sort of like pixie dust, or Santa Claus. It will only happen if you believe.

Recently I have been having more problems with Yahoo Push not pushing. I have always had some problems but lately it has been worse. The only change I have made was to switch to the New Yahoo Mail on the Web.

>> The new Yahoo! Mail has arrived! Try it now!

When I try this at the top it still says BETA so maybe I am not yet getting the new version.

I switched back and it has not failed since.

Anybody else have experience with this? If you switch does it still say BETA?

can you explain this a little better??

you are using the beta version or the standard version?

Ive never used the beta version and push is very hit and miss. Ill get 10 in a row, then the next 5 will never come until I manually check.

I am currently back to the original Yahoo "Web" Email client (my prior post said: I switched back and it has not failed since.). But based on history it will fail within a couple of days, but will start working again for a couple of days.

When you are in the New Email Client there is a LINK next to your userid (top left) that says switch back.

My thinking is that this should have nothing to do with the problem except that after switching to the New Email Client it got worse. After switching back it was better.

At the same time I wanted to know if others are still seeing the "BETA" tag below Yahoo Mail after switching.

On Aug 27 there was a notice (see link below) that said a New Yahoo Mail was coming out that included Text Messaging. Part of the report said "Among a host of other improvements getting rolled out to Yahoo Mail this week comes this little gem: (SMS Support)". However, the screen shot had "Beta" at the top but also showed "Text Message" under Compose. When I switch I do not see the option even though I was signed in to Chat.

Bottom line, I was hoping the roll out would fix our problems with Push Mail.

Regarding if its really 'push' or not- it should be pretty clear-cut by definition, right? Either the device polls for new mail (pull), or the mail server automatically notifies the device when there is new mail (push).

I guess there's no way to conclude where the problem is- either Yahoo's servers are not pushing out the message/notification, the iPhone is not receiving the message, or a combination of both.

Is there anything at the Apple forums on this? You'd figure this is something they should be able to fix, regardless of where the problem is.

A problem I have a had a number of times is that I can go into my Yahoo Web Interface I notice that emails that I know were not there yesterday (delete) are now back. I feel that is a Yahoo Problem. When that happens I also notice that my iPhone will go into a "Checking for Email" Loop - never ends. Then I can delete the old "repeat" email on the Yahoo Web Site and then switch folders on the iPhone on then all starts working again. So is both Yahoo and Apple at fault here or just Yahoo?

It seems far more likely that t is Yahoo's problem rather than Apple's. I think that it must be an issue along the lines of Yahoo's servers simply not forwarding in a timely manner. My iPhone has no problems hanging or whatever when retreiving mail, so I am led to believe Yahoo is at fault.

Through my testing, I have determined that this is a bug in Mail and not Yahoo's problem at all.

Yahoo push email works 100% of the time when... get ready for it:

Mail is not open.

If I restart the iPhone or force-quit Mail, push emails are delivered instantly.

As soon as I open Mail on the phone, mail is no longer "received", whether Mail is the active application or not.

But the push notification does come, however, because I hear the GSM interference on my speakers notifying the phone EVERY TIME I SEND AN EMAIL TO THE PHONE.

Hopefully the update on Monday fixes this problem. :)

Glad to here your success. However, I have had no problems for the last few days. I have been using my email the entire time and have not restarted my iPhone. I have in the past used your technique to restart push email but not always. My problems seem to happen the most when my InBox gets "corrupted". What I mean is when OLD previously deleted mail re-appears. When that happens the iPhone can not download mail. I have to re-delete the mail and then it starts again with no problems "for a while".

I think the moral of the story is simply that iPhone Mail.app needs some major fixing.

Could not agree more with this. I just don't understand what ALL the Apple Employees are doing. They all got a FREE iPhones, right? I would think they would all be complaining to the development staff to get this fixed. Maybe they are.
