Also what the value of Yahoo's Alibaba stock is - I seem to remember a figure of $20B mentioned?
As of Friday July 22nd, Yahoo’s 15 percent stake of Alibaba represented $31.2 billion, and its 34 percent of Yahoo Japan was worth $8.3 billion. Yahoo’s patent portfolio, which is worth around $1 billion, isn’t part of the sale either.
YHOO has lots of technologies that AAPL would die for. E.g. search, mail, ad business, etc. Which is more value? Beats or YHOO.
Given they /bought/ Beats, I'm not so sure. Steve would never have bought Beats but I could imagine him looking at YHOO as a strategic buy for its technology. I mean, look at how integrated mobile services are with YHOO. You don't have mobile without YHOO services.
Ya because everyone wants Apple to destroy Flickr and turn it into Photos. Why didn't AAPL buy YHOO? Lost opportunity.
Steve would never have...
Agreed, Yahoo is a dumpster fire, and there's really nothing that I can see that would be a good fit for Apple. Can't say as I would blame them for passing on this dumpster fire
We probably won't know what was part of that deal. If the only way to get Jimmy Iovine, Dre, Reznor and their field of enfluence with the recording industry may be worth more than the cost of Beats. Seeing as they are Apple employee's I'm sure something like that happened behind closed doors.Given they /bought/ Beats, I'm not so sure. Any discussion that includes "Steve would never have..." loses all credibility as far as I'm concerned
Verizon seems like a odd suitor to me. I don't see the two integrating very well, and Verizon isn't getting the patents, so I don't know what they are trying to accomplish with this purchase.
It's probably more along the lines of just getting the userbase and connecting it to some of Verizon's "media"-like undertakings like go90.Agreed, Yahoo is a dumpster fire, and there's really nothing that I can see that would be a good fit for Apple.
It was no secret that Yahoo was shopping itself around, so presumably, Apple doing its due diligence may have looked at what was being offered. I'm actually surprised by Verizon and what they hope to accomplish - I don't see this as a logical fit for what they do
