I still like Yahoo Answers. Hopefully they will update it and fix some of its reliability and spam problems. They'll probably just dump it. I'd love to see it turned into a forum. As it covers a wide range of interests and isn't absolute garbage like Reddit or 4Chan. I like Macrumors but there is very little discussion outside of Apple and I can only talk so much about Apple before losing interest..

Their e-mail services are pretty good, IMAP support is quite good now. They could really make it stand out if they made the e-mail, calendar, contacts and tasks sync with Outlook over Exchange. Addins always seem to break Office. Also make it work well with CardDAV and CalDAV.

I remember the old days of Yahoo games playing Dominoes against people.

Agreed, Yahoo is a dumpster fire, and there's really nothing that I can see that would be a good fit for Apple.

It was no secret that Yahoo was shopping itself around, so presumably, Apple doing its due diligence may have looked at what was being offered. I'm actually surprised by Verizon and what they hope to accomplish - I don't see this as a logical fit for what they do

Make Bellsouth/ATT email addresses unreliable to try and lure AT&T customers away. Since most will blame AT&T not Yahoo/Verizon.

I'm genuinely intrigued as to what yahoo services you're referring to - as far as I'm aware, I don't have any on my phone apart from stocks which is only there because I can't remove it

Services like Finance and Sports are where YHOO are second to none. If you look at the size of VZ, combining this deal with the takeover of AOL means that VZ is now #1 for unique visitors per month to their websites. AAPL's online presence has missed the last chance to be amongst the internet's top tier content providers.

I think you are confusing what Apple wants to be with what you want Apple to be

Thanks for the reply, although I think they're not as big outside the USA, particularly with sports news in the small corner of the world where I live (uk) which is why I wasn't aware of their importance: when I think of yahoo I just think of a failed search engine and lots of strange company acquisitions

This. Yes, it's the US although I'm not really sure what the major UK websites, apart from the BBC and HMRC.

Your mobile platform is nothing without your apps. Your apps are nothing without the service backbone. Your service backbone doesn't exist without ads. Follow the money.

My point was more that there was no real way for Microsoft to buy them for 20b when Ballmer was in charge. They didn't want to sell because they were stupid.

Hi
Yes Yang was really something else with the 1999 purchase mentioned earlier - broadcast.com (world's worst investment in the history of man) and then shunning the Ballmer deal.
By November 2008 however, Yahoo share price was below $10 per share. Yang had lost his job, Ballmer unfortunately had taken his eye off the ball and miss an opportunity to grab a bargain in a bid for Yahoo again.
Yahoo and Microsoft would have made an excellent synergy. a waste and google must be poping the champagne bottle in glee. #nocompetition
cheers
