Ugh nice job Apple.

This is like the pink 23" aluminum ACDs

Or the iMac G4s and their dead pixels

or the 15" high-res PBG4s and their lines/white spots..

Or the MacBook Pros and their lines..

Or the iMacs with the dead/dying video chips...

Or the Mac Pros/G5s out there that randomly crapped out because of the power supply that took everything out with it.

Or the noisy MDD G4s and the owners that lost sanity

Or the original imacs, most of which are sitting in landfills not because they were old, but because the flyback transformer blew out and made the whole damn thing useless.

Or the overheating DVSEs with the noisy maxtor hard drives

Or the plethora of dead time capsules, rev a and b airport hubs sittingin the landfill that crapped out prematurely due to poor thermal design

I think Apple's hardware engineers are about as good as Microsoft's software engineers. FAIL.

Maybe?

I think if you use the MacRumors Buyer's Guide to count up all of the different hardware generations, and then factor in the spectacular fails that you've mentioned above, Apple's hardware guys are probably still batting better than Microsoft.

from Gizmodo's When to buy Apple products..

wise words..

Mac Mini

Apple's no-frills desktop just got a spec increase and added a server model in late October. It shouldn't be getting any more updates any time soon, which is a shame, because it's still not a very competitive product for the price. Check out the Acer AspireRevo R3610 as a more than viable alternative. Recommendation: DON'T BUY unless you insist on Apple, even when it flies in the face of all logic

Giz is run by teenagers for teenagers. This is idiotic advice on their part. if you want a Mac Mini it's because you want OS X not Microsoft's latest mediocrity and some cheapo plastic no support hardware.

I have had everything you mentioned here and the only one I had an issue with was the wind turbine G4's. Which Apple fixed like they do everything. Look at Dells line and see what their issues are, or HP, or anyone else. Then maybe you will understand that electronics are susceptible to issues and that most others are far worse than Apple. Apple owners and users expect perfection from Apple in all things because they usually get it.

My i7 just arrived and the screen is fine. If it wasn't I would not be happy bit I do know Apple would take care of it. Try saying that about anyone else.

Well, I'm happy I got a flawless iMac :)
When I went to get it, just looking at the box, all I could think of was "yellow tinge" but then I opened it, turned it on, and it was PERFECT <3

I still don't understand how this could have even happened. I haven't heard of this kinda thing happening before with other displays. I have heard that a several iPhones had this, but the number isn't even close to how many iMacs are affected by this.
I really hope they get this whole thing taken care of soon.

LMFAO, that last line in your comment made me laugh so hard, because it's SO TRUE.

Well, I wouldn't compare the two, since Microsoft engineers probably don't get paid enough to actually make the software worth a damn

The difference, however, is that Apple's hardware is PRETTY.

If you email Steve with a valid complaint, someone from executive care will call you within the week. Just don't abuse it. Sjobs@apple.com. Or you can just call them directly. Call Apple corporate and ask for Gene or Dena 408-996-1010. I have Dena's direct line but I'm not sure if I should post it.

Hmmm, I probably didn't word my original post very well.

I've definitely heard about people emailing Sjobs and then occasionally getting replies from someone high up in the food chain. I've also seen a lot of false stories and reports on various internet forums too. I'm not saying your story is fabricated, I just tend to take these reports with a grain of salt...but I also keep the information in the back of my mind and I may use that information to weigh in on a purchasing decision. My original statement was not so much as to discredit what you're saying (my apologies if it came across that way), but the comment was directed at the anti-Apple posse that is so quick to jump on the bandwagon with outrageous claims and insults..

For the record, I've been ready to buy a Core i7 from Day 1, but I decided to wait until the initial reports rolled in. Once the reports of the yellow tinge issue came in, I decided to hold off on my purchase. If I really needed this computer, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to order one. For starters, there's a good chance that I would receive one that was problem-free. But if I did get one with an issue, I would have no worries at all as I know that Apple's customer service is top-notch and they would take care of it once the problem is finally sorted out. But I don't need the new iMac right now, so I can afford to wait a few weeks or a few months.

Again, I'm sorry if my original post came across wrong and I do thank you for sharing this info with us. And as for Dena's direct line, I would never post that online. ;)

Her advice: "Wait to buy one until the issue is resolved."

Sorry, but this was a response to one customer's questions and not the issuing of blanket advice.

If I said to her: "I really don't want to go through this again and if there's been no change in production I'd prefer to wait until there is a possible fix", she'd likely say "wait".

If I said "I really need a computer right away but I'm scared the replacement will be the same as the faulty one", she'd probably say "That's unlikely, try another."

There are any number of questions and slight variations on those questions that might elicit similar answers. Just reporting an answer is rather meaningless, however well-intentioned.

I bought.... 16 24" ACDs before getting one with a "decent" uniform screen. The bottom is still a little more yellow then the top but its the best one out of the 16 units.. My 23" ACD has a perfectly uniform screen
Sounds like the LED backlight is not yet quite up to it. And makes me wonder whether selling my two 23" ACDs was a wise decision.

My i5 iMac is probably going back today for too noisy fans, even though its screen is OK, with the yellowish tint at the bottom not that noticeable unless one specifically starts looking for it (usually after reading there boards here). I'll try to swap it for an i7, which then should be the very latest build.
