Yosemite 10.10 GM - Use as main OS X installation?

Can i safely use it? The name of the installer is "Install OS X Yosemite Developer Preview”

Can i use it safely on my main computer and main OS X version?.

I ran PB3 and now PB4(GM) as my only install. I had a couple of very minor glitches that were easily fixed in PB3, and have had no issues with the GM so far. All the apps I use work fine and it seems quite stable.

It's a GM Candidate. There may well be additional builds before release.
 
Stable to an extent

I've been running the GM upgraded from Mavericks and its stable, but damn its a memory hog, kernel_task eats up 1.15gigs, I have 8 gigs, theres no way I should only have 779mb available.
Below is a snippet of top.

Updated to PB4 (cGM) from Mavericks and it's been absolutely solid for me. I was expecting it to be unrefined and not efficient (like Mavericks GM was) but it's be great. Installed it on a work computer (I like to take chances? :cool:) and everything has been working fine. I've read a few comments on the forum about memory but for some reason, memory is a lot better in Yosemite than it was in Mavericks, the obvious one being with Safari. In Mavericks, each tab you open in Safari had it's own process and took up a lot of RAM but doing the same thing in Yosemite, it's using a lot less memory.

Right now I have 5 Safari tabs open, Outlook, Excel and accounting software and I'm sitting at 6.92GB of free RAM. Doing the same thing in Mavericks I would be at about 4GB of free RAM.

I've been using Yosemite since PB1 and it has been very stable. Biggest issue with early betas is the lack of refined applications (VMWare, etc) that don't work right. As we head into GM territory a lot of them have been fixed (aka VMWare). Great ONLY OS install on my 2010 MacBook Air. It lags a little on wake up (processor at 100% for 1-2 minutes) as it appears to be doing some housekeeping but it is a 4 year old machine. Still works during that period and it speeds up to very useful speeds shortly after that and stays that way.

That being said, I'm still using the GM on a separate partition on my iMac and intend to keep it that way until the public release just to be safe as I still occasionally have to boot into 10.9.5 to run a few programs.
 
My Main OX

Took the plunge last night. I have been running PB 1, 2, & 3 on separate partition with very few problems. Upgraded main OS last night to PB4. No issues on a 2014 rMBP, and running Windows 7 VM in Parallels 10.
 
my hard drive died last week, so...figured a good time to try yosemite. have been using it a week now, and would NOT go back.

some minor bugs, but mostly working great, and am enjoying the hell out of it..
 
I've been using Yosemite as my main since around PB1. As soon as the GM came out, and I confirmed my daily activities were in tact; then, I recently deleted my Mavericks partition. I don't even have a bootcamp partition anymore by just using my Windows 7 VM in Parallels.

I have been running Yosemite on my main Mac since DP2 with a slew of third party add-ons. I would go for it. As always, make sure you have a good backup (just in case).
 
I installed Yosemite on my iMac and rMBP today and am loving it. Had my wife call me just so I could talk to her on the MBP. :cool: Felt like Jason Borne, or something. Loving it, although it does use more RAM than Mavericks and the UI needs a little more refinement. Between Yosemite and iOS 8.1, I'm groovin'.
