Yosemite Boot Up Times

How long does it take Yosemite take too boot up for you in the latest release of Yosemite?

Is it faster or slower than Mavericks?

Post your Mac specs for better reference.
 
PB#4 and cold boot up, it's between 9 and 10 seconds.

Shutdown is between 2 and 3 seconds

On my MacMini 2011 with 8 GB of ram and the slow 500GB Hdd, it takes 1 minute or so boot up and 20/24 seconds shutdown.

Boots like an old Windows Machine with the Yosemite GM candidate installed. 2013 iMac
 
2014 iMac: cold boot - 2 minutes 30 seconds +

(My 2008 iMac with 2 gigs cold booted in about 20 seconds)
 
Interesting guys....

I have the most current mid 2014 retina MacBook Pro, with a 128 GB SSD, and I fully understand a Spinner Hard drive will be slower, but an SSD that takes 30 seconds is confusing. I time mine when the Apple Logo appears and use the second hand on my watch. My times have been consistent with PB 2 and 3.

I have only one program that boots up with the OS and nothing else, and I have no external hardware attached, so why is mine faster at a cold boot up than those that have posted ?

Interesting indeed. Especially with todays current hardware. This is one area that needs more focus in the next release.
 
2013 MBA

Mavericks boot up: 7 seconds to login screen, another 10 to desktop.

Yosemite DP8: 8 seconds to login, another 10-15 to desktop.

Yosemite GM: 5 seconds to login, and between 30 and 150 seconds(!!) to desktop.

Tell us about your system....SSD or Hdd. How many programs you have selected to start up at Boot. Any hardware attached. Memory amount, which should not be an issue but nice to know.... :rolleyes:
 
Looking at this thread, it seems the systems with the fastest boot times are laptops. Perhaps Apple has optimized the OS for those systems and left those of us with desktop systems as ghosts in the wind?

or maybe more laps have ssd's?

He mentioned a MacBook Air so by default it has an SSD:rolleyes:
 
Both OSes are fast to boot up (about 7-10 seconds w/ SSD), but I notice Yosemite is much, much faster to shut down. I think my Mac had something weird happening during Mavericks shutdown, because it used to take 30+ seconds. Now I actually upgraded the same installation, and it's 3-4 seconds long.

* All 2013 MBAs have SSD.
* 3 programs set to load at boot: iTunes Helper, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
* No hardware attached for the above times. I've had a 27" iMac attached as a secondary monitor via displayport, but that hasn't affect startup times so far as I can tell.
* 8GB memory.
 
For older macs owners
My mid 2007 iMac with 840 samsung ssd take 30 seconds to fully load everything. I have 9 apps in startup items.
Shutdown is like, 5 seconds.
Pretty good. Some animations still lag though.

When the public beta was first released, I formatted my system and installed from scratch. Boot times and shutdown were terrible in comparison to Mavericks. iMac mid 2011, 16GB Ram, 1TB 7200RPM Stock drive, Core i5 2.7GHZ, Radeon 6770M 512MB. I was seeing 3 minute boot times. I restored from Time Machine back to Mavericks and everything went back to normal.

I'm sure with the continued releases since things have gotten better, but I wonder how much better.

Thank you but still I cannot understand my faster boot up over others. I did an update, not a reformat so this is a head scratcher.
 
20 seconds boot up, ~3 seconds shut down.

13" 2011 MBP i5, 1TB Samsung SSD, stock bar the SSD
 
yosemite gm on HDD
boot up ~50 seconds
shutdown ~2 minutes

mavericks 10.9.5 on SSD
boot up ~10 seconds
shutdown ~3 seconds

13 inch early 2011 macbook pro

HDD in optical drive place
SSD in main hard drive place
