This worked! Thanx

Thanx

I had lots of problems with keychain as well after installing Yosemite. Keychain turned itself off on all my devices, and wouldn't turn back on with the security code/SMS combination. The option to authorise from another device wasn't available after setting up the security code.

I've managed to get it working again by resetting Keychain on the Mac (in Mavericks), and choosing NOT to set up a security code. This restored the option to authorise Keychain on iOS devices from the Mac rather than using the Code/SMS method. It has re-synced my passwords from the Mac to iCloud, so hopefully I won't have lost anything.

reset keychain on *iPhone* side...

i skimmed through all the posts in this thread and see lots of different approaches (and types of frustration!)

my specific scenario is changing from the old local login to the iCloud login *really* screwed things up for awhile- drove me completely batty all morning.

good news is I figured it out.

turns out if you reset your keychain on the mac, it doesn't do anything but move the keychain aside.

if you reset your keychain on the iPhone, it asks you for a new iCloud Security Code and syncs the contents of the iPhone with this new keychain.

*then* I went back to my Mac (Yosemite) and it was able to successfully ask my iPhone for permission to sync the keychain.

so I continue to see they are fixing a lot of the headaches of the legacy Mac OS X, continue to be in growing pains (because they need to integrate with iOS) so you have to fumble around with things like this.

it's pretty clear to me that once you make iOS/iPhone the "master" of the keychain, things seem to work a lot more straightforward!

hope this helps someone else out there - I think i was pretty mean to the 2nd Apple rep I talked to - hope i didn't ruin his saturday!

The iPhone does not always ask for the code.

I seem to be completely ****ed. I'm on the phone with Apple Support right now (on hold).

I was on the phone with Apple support for an hour, but due to the holiday in the US, the rep wasn't able to get a specialist and couldn't help and recommended I call back tomorrow.

So far I've found that if I go to Keychain Access, I can see all the items there. There is an export option, but it's blacked out. I have created a new local keychain, copied all the iCloud passwords, and hit paste in the local keychain. However, it asks for my Mac password for every single individual listing (over 800). So I set my Mac password to 1 character long and am hitting that one character and enter over and over to paste each listing into the local keychain.
