I paused when I read that and pondered the possibilities for a moment. This is the beginning of something huge.

I had the same reaction! H-O-L-Y CRAP.

As most of you who have read anything I've written about the iPad probably know, I'm pretty enthusiastic about the device and the potential it has.

That said, I need to be more open-minded and forward thinking. The possibilities are absolutely 100% mind blowing. I need to take a break and just let this sink in for a minute. My brain is overloading with thousands of ideas! I can't even.......I'm dead.

See…here's the thing about a camera on the iPad. Other than for video chat, would you really use it? It just seems an awkward device to be using to take photos. "Say Cheese" while you're holding up the iPad? I know I'm a geek, but that just seems silly. ;-)

That's why it feels really natural to me to leverage the camera in my iPhone for use on the iPad. I don't imagine I'd find it awkward at all to use the two devices together; as I say, I'll certainly always have them with me at the same time.

A camera is not just for taking pictures. Just as Augmented Reality apps are starting to take off, this could have been a real breakthrough. Check out Parrot's AR device.

Of course I get that cameras serve more than just picture-taking purposes. But, again, even in your example, the camera is resident on the device external to the iPhone/iPad. So, that example sort of makes my point rather than refutes it.

Imagine Augmented Reality. You wear your iPhone on a lanyard, and the camera on it faces out, while you hold your iPad down in front of you. This way you don't have to hold the device in front of your face while you walk around. Seems to me a much more natural use of the tech.
