Yeah I dont get it either. It's a perfect basic Stock App and I try to use first party apps whenever possible.

Agreed, I want to uninstall the ones I don't use. I can already hide them: on the 7th page in a folder and I never see them if I don't want to.

Tim Cook already explained this himself some time back. It's due to the hooks in the OS (like Siri, proactive, etc. etc) that the stock apps cannot be removed right now.

Exactly! I already know how to "hide" them. On our iToys the Apple apps we don't use are in a folder on the last page labeled Apple Junk :) But it would be nice to be able to delete them and free up some space for apps we use on our iPhones but don't have room for on the 32GB iPad Mini.

The space saved in removing some of the stock apple apps would be so small practically no one would notice. 2-5mb at best (which in many cases that's one extra App Store app, in some cases not even one extra App Store app.) You wouldn't even be able to fit one extra photo by removing a lot of the commonly unwanted apps. It's like asking to remove solitaire from windows so you could save 500kb of space.

Also because the apps are baked into iOS itself, they are included in the iOS 1.4gb download/install size. Removing them, iOS would still be pretty much 1.4gb in size.

Why on earth do you think that you should be allowed to do this? Apps on iOS are not standalone islands that don't talk to each other. Virtually every App is interconnected to each other and the OS in a significant way. It is only the most NCE arrogant user ignorance that would fuel such a desire.

lol what an intolerant and arrogant post. I bet you also enjoy defending other companies like NSA because "you have nothing to hide". Give me a break.

It may come as a shock to some forum members, but all iOS users do not use all, or even most, of Apple’s un-deletable apps. For example, the apps in the “Apple Junk” folders on our iPhones and iPad include the usual suspects: Weather, Stocks & iWatch. But they also include other apps we don't use: Game Center, Podcasts, News, iTunes Store, Music, FaceTime, Find Friends, and iBooks.

Many, perhaps most, forum members couldn't live without all or some of these un-deletable apps. But I could, because I find them either too weak or simply not useful. These apps are only a mild nuisance, which can be tucked out of the way, on our 128GB 6s or 64GB 5s. But the inability to delete them is a little more annoying on our perennially storage-challenged 32GB Mini.

Given that the functionalities that a lot of these apps provide are part of the OS, even if you delete the app itself, it likely won't delete much as the core functions are still part of the OS code that wouldn't be deleted (otherwise it would affect the OS itself). So it's rather unlikely that much space would be saved by deleting these apps, as it would be more of an effect of simply not having the app icon present somewhere (tucked away in some folder most likely) than anything else.

It's complex because apple doesn't want to get rid of it. If apple REALLY want to get rid of those useless app, they can do it....with their grade-d engineers.

for the fact alone that they need to be updated with the OS should push them to make them stand alone downloadable apps. especially things like iBooks that were standalone just fine in the past

Disregarding his last sentence, he is exactly right. The way iOS works means this would be prohibitive to implement for most apps. If you want complete control over what apps are on your phone, iOS is not and never will be for you.

NSA is not a company. It is a federal government spy agency. Its purpose is to spy and listen and collect data.

Which is fine for someone that wants to check on stocks, but what about those of us that don't have any need for it, we should have the option to hide it.

It's funny that you skip over the fact that most those apps that you argue about removing, are drops in the pond, space-wise. 5mb a pop is not going to make much of a difference....
 
Why all the hate.. I regularly use most of the stock apps. Seem to work fine for normal users. The "techies", of course, are different.
