Here is how to update the firmware:

Update the Apple TV Siri Remote
  1. Connect the Siri Remote to a Lightning cable to charge.
  2. On the Apple TV navigate to Settings -> System -> Restart.
  3. Wait for the Apple TV to restart.
  4. When done, leave the Siri Remote plugged in and click a button on the remote.
  5. The firmware update will be installed.

I'd be curious if the Find My remote feature on the iPhone with iOS 17 would work with the newest updated Apple TV remote that had been connected to an Apple TV HD before it was "lost."

That didn’t work for me

i think the latest remote might have been updated at least once before. It had appalling connectivity issues for a month or so and an update fixed it after a reset.

Never mind. I see the option in the remote app. I have the 0x83 firmware, but I don’t see the remote in Find My.

I've got a 2nd generation remote with an Airtag in the case... Find My remote works better for me than it will work on this one.

Confusing, don’t know what date my 4k tv was built, but it has the black swipe remote which I actually love….can I find my remote on that?

So apparently one of my remotes is updated and it did, indeed, help me find the remote when I genuinely didn’t know where it was. The UI is very close to the AirTag one. Pretty neat update I wasn’t expecting to get.

My firmware updated without me doing anything!
I've not charged the remote for months now, but the new 'find' feature works fine. (both iPhone and ATV are on iOS17 beta)

What isn’t clear in this article is whether you need to have the 4K Apple TV model or if this new feature simply relies on the Siri 2nd or 3rd gen remotes. If the latter, it should work with the HD Apple TV model if using it with a 2nd or 3rd gen remote like I’m doing. After all, it appears this feature only involves iPhone and remote so what’s the Apple TV model got to do with it?

I have no idea where my remote is, we suspect somewhere in our couch but we've taken it apart and can't find it anywhere. So unfortunately this will only help me when Apple invents a time machine. :(

It won’t be in Find My
