You know it's time for a new computer when...

Well? When do you guys know that it's time for a new computer?

As for me, it's been when I realized that I was making my own drum solos with my fingers on the wrist-rest area of my laptop while I was waiting for programs to load. Shameful, I know.
 
you know it when it is the time

everytime i get a new computer and used it for a while, i started to come up with ideas when the next one will be.

and then i'll see Engadegt popin up things with similar ideas, and then i'll try to resist it... bt there's always a day that i eventually fail to do so , then i took out my credit card and bang theres the new computer..
 
When my second battery stopped holding a charge, the plugged in computer froze and then died again, I was getting for my third wipe in under 15 months and Apple had the computer I wanted at the price I wanted (me like refurbs).

Even though it has been replaced and is really only turned on to go to sites like http://www.tryfreegames.com and such, I hold onto computers until they are as dead as dead can be. I think that the old lappy will be with me until I "replace" my current PB for primary computing.

It helps if my wife isn't looking
 
My old PC (which my sis inherited) just came up with the message Operating System not found...I think that's a good sign a new one is needed fairly shortly..:eek:
 
I realized it was time for a new computer (and a Switch) when:

...I could read a magazine article while waiting for the swapping to end
...the source clip preview on Premiere made the whole thing gasp
...I clicked "Restart" and waited for 15 mins before the system could finish the restart

No, thats just a sign that you're running Windows. Take the floppy disk out of the drive and it will be fine ;) (I know, I know...What's a "floppy"? hehe)
 
For me, its either a) when it gets too slow for my everyday tasks (and i am not always patient), b) when something bad happens to it, c) when it is around 2 and a half to 3 years old, and d) when something i like better comes out.;)
 
1) when word slows up and almost freezes when you type too fast.

2) when running itunes, AIM, and photoshop at the same time means a) not being able to properly chat, b) not being able to properly listen to music, or c) not being able to properly edit a photo.

3) when you can't shut down properly without force quitting a number of applications.

...i think it's time for a new computer. =)
 
...or when the drool shorts out your current computer as your stare at the MacBook Pro page....

Wow, that's way too old IMO.

I upgrade every 1.5-2 years. Atleast on my PC I have.
 
... when Apple release the second or third revision of the Intel desktop Mac Pro line and all of the apps I use are universal binaries!

Do that Apple and software dudes and you can have my cash.

you are not alone. This is my first "primary" computer that has lasted me more than a year. For my (current) purposes i need a computer slightly faster than this 1.5 GHz PB, but 1.67 wasn't worth it. MBPs are too fast (not a bad thing) and the same design. I have always switched designs between computers, and now it is almost a requirement. I know that it is a good design, but for an intel chip, a speed demon, i want to know that i am using it (besides having the isight stare at me) when i am not doing high power needs. otherwise i will fell like, why did i upgrade, i don't notice a major difference, and i don't feel like i am using a new machine, the technological acheivement that it really is, and then i will return it, go back, realize that it was alot faster than my current machine, and want to get it back, then realize that i would have to wait until about a month to get it. not going to happen. I am going to wait for a new design, so until then, the MBP (or MB if they are duo or really fast solo, need to check how fast the solos will come) will not be on my lap.
 
For me it was:

1) When I spent over 900 Minutes and went over my phone minutes with Tech-support trying to get them to fix it for the 6th time.
2) After having it reformated and doing Windows Update, Norton Pops up with a virus and cannot delete it. Windows was installed for 20 Minutes Max when this happened.
3) You take a nap between filters on Photoshop (really just cook dinner)
4) You play with a Mac for a while and then try to go back to your PC.
 
You know it's time for a new computer when you replaced the hard drive four times, the power supply twice, the optical drive once, and there is no original memory in the computer anymore.
