I like how your desk can drop down to fit the panel. NICE!

BTW: is that XPS your other "desktop"?

Yeah, I'm lucky it does that because the display never would have fit.

The XPS is my gaming rig. 3.4GHz P4, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD, Radeon 9800 Mobility 256MB, 1920 1200 15" display.

Well, the display is going back to the Apple Store today. It is way overkill for a home user like me and the $3000 price tag is just not justifiable (sp?) .

Sorry I don't have a web image host but you can check out my 2.5GHz. & 30" Cinema Display on my .mac account. I have 4 300GB Maxtor MaXLine III SATA drives plus the stock 250GB internal. I ordered the FirmTek SeriTek/1EN2 external dual SATA enclosure. Then I will be able to connect my WD Raptor 74GB along with another SATA drive for backup. I am using the Sonnet Tempo-X 4+4 PCI-X SATA card and the nVidia 6800 Ultra.

Also used is a Wacom 9X12 tablet, Epson R800 printer, Epson scanner, iPod Mini, Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones, NextVision N6 scaler, Canopus ADVC300 analog/DV converter, ATI Remote Wonder, Lynksys router, Palm Tungsten T3, Lexar FireWire CompactFlash adapter, Nikon Coolpix 990...

Salamander TC-1 theater chair, Salamander Synergy Twin S-30 with 19" rackmount kit, Marathon G5 rackmount, OmniMount + VESA adapter...

I don't have one of those (nor do I have a Mac capable of driving one).

I am planning on buying a PowerMac to replace my iMac in about 2 years. and I'd have no qualms buying a 30 inch display from Apple to go along with it. In fact, if Apple comes out with a 40 inch display (and I had enough money saved) I'd buy two of them (and a new desk).

Sigh. The closest I come to a 30" is editing video on a 17" ACD and previewing my edits with a Eiki projector on a 9 foot diagonal pull down screen. Something about the 30" is so, well, can't think about it or I'll start drooling again. :D

...and people say that just a 15 inch PB is excessively expensive...
I'm sure that must be one of the most expensive set-ups anybody has here at macrumors. I don't even know what a load of that stuff does! :p I'm just wondering how much it actually cost in the end. Can you give us an indication so we can start saving? :D

Impressive, RAS admin! Maybe in 2007, when I replace this Mac I have, I'll have enough saved to match you :)
I'm pleased with my progress so far towards this goal, but I won't specify amounts - not even a percentage.

A rough analysis of all the gear at my desk (2 Sony VAIO PCs, 2 Sony VAIO notebooks, Mac mini, 23" LCD + 15" LCD, 3 routers, speakers, web cam, USB+2VGA switcher box, Maxtor external HD, printer/scanner/copier) adds up to around $15,000 at original retail... plus a couple thou for my office furniture (Herman Miller Beirise furniture + Aeron chair).

The most expensive thing in my office, though, is the big chunk of glass on my desk. See it in context here.

Looks like a really nice place you have there. Have any other pics?
Also, is that gel-electrophoresis on the wall above your desk?
Thanks! Yeah, I've got a whole web site full of them. My art collection includes more than 200 original works of art. And I congratulate you on your keen eye... the work in question is, in fact, modeled on the DNA gel electrophoresis process.

Sorry clay, but I am going to have to do something that will be a bit unpleasant...for you. I have to come and kill you, and steal your house, and your art, and your computers.

Seriously though, that is how I invision my place looking when I am out on my own in the world.

Hmm...I've never seen any electrophoreses (pl sp?) used as art - staining it must have been a b**ch - staining normal aragose gel electrophoreses is a pain in itself - never mind using lots of colors assigned to different parts. I've stained my hands far too many times with that stuff - it's hard to get off! Interesting.

Obviously a video editing set up - what kind of work do you do?

Yes, I do a little bit of everything. I recently did some work on a stop-motion animation TV show. I used to do post for a TV show on the Disney Playhouse channel ("The Book of Pooh"). I have been doing desktop publishing for a number of years. I also make videos and DVD's among other things...

The system is going to be set up for uncompressed HD editing. Just waiting for an HD video camera that is less then $8k, but good enough to work with uncompressed.

It'd be hard for me to edit in that thing..... i'd fall asleep in that nice chair! :p

I just got this chair a couple of weeks ago. It is the most comfortable chair I have ever used. I even used the Herman Miller Aeron chair for a couple of years while working on "The Book of Pooh". I can sit here and work all day and all night...
