Not to be rude, but, isn't it "our" house - your family's? You seem to take great pride in calling everything they worked for yours, FWIW. ;)

Sorry iGary. "my parents" I guess is more accurate.

I take care of the lawn though. My mom does the flowers. My dad sometimes fertilizes sometimes. But yes, technically it is their yard, their houses, etc.

However, when I invite someone over, I say "Want to come over to my house", I don't say "Want to come over to my "familie's/parent's house). Perhaps thats where it comes from.

Beautiful yard Mr. Anderson. I like the crosshatching!

Glad you all like it!

And I can't claim responsibility for the mowing - we moved in a couple summers ago from the D.C. area and didn't have a mower (we had a townhouse with 100 sqft of lawn in the front like all the other people on our block, so we had a guy do it all at the same time). The lawn requires a power/rider mower and it was just easier to get a lawn service to come in once a week to do the mowing. It worked out so well we kept them.

Those large zero turn radius mowers do such a good job - I'll have to get another pic from across the lake after its mowed on Friday so you can see the lines.

Oh, and it works so well, that one of our neighbors got them to mow their lawn as well - so they do both at the same time and it looks really nice.

My lawn is too hard to make cross hatches. There are plantings and trees which get in the way. The lawnmower is not a Zero Turn on top of that (woohoo John Deere). I like the ones at "my town's school" (")), it's a zero turn with a caterpillar engine, and it goes like 35mph when mowing.

Nice lawns guys!! My favorite would have to be the lake side one.

Don't lose hope jayb2000, you could always weed/futilize/replace?? Call in the experts. :D

I spent $600 last year to put new sod all over my lawn, and half of it is doing poorly ! Not enough rain or time to keep it well watered... this stinks.

That's a pain - the watering. We always had issues with that in our old house. Here, though, with the lake, the original owners had a pump/sprinkler system put in that take water right from the lake so it doesn't use the well water. Works great and you never have to worry about it.

But with all the rain we've had recently, I probably won't have to use the sprinklers for a while :D

Loving the backyard and lake, Mr. Anderson - absolutely stunning. Would love a chance to visit such a place, much less OWN it, ha!

If I get a chance to take some pics, I'll post them, but ours is doing poorly this year. We have few options in Houston, and for some reason, the St. Augustine hasn't grown in thick this year, despite fertilizing and watering. Usually it thickens up real nice in April, choking out the weeds and making for a decent-looking, albeit not very soft on the feet, lawn.

Augustine is very strong, though, so it doesn't die easily, and it's good for kiddos, so hopefully next year some overseeding will help get it back in shape. This year is a lost cause, too many weeds and too little rain.
