Seriously.. Apple Pi**ing on you? Slapping you? Bailing on you?

Your machine was working for you yesterday wasn't it?

Shoot..... I've done major label work on G5's lately.... my 8 Core 1,1 is solid for my work......
Blockbuster movies are still being scored on MP's from '2010', films, effects, and other work.

If you all of a sudden CANNOT operate because Apple hasn't offered up a newer machine, then maybe you need to be better at what you use it for.

Good lord.

Good thing I'm not a moderator :p
wouldn't be many posts from today :p

:D:D:D:D:D:D

Cheer up! Your Mac Pro is still a beast!
And for now, it's still holding as good a value, if not better, than it was yesterday! :apple:

YAAAAAAYYYYY! There are people left with common sense... Good on you sir! :)

Your machine is a day older than yesterday. And the "new" Mac Pro is about 2 years older than anything being sold by Dell or HP today. So yeah your machine is still obsolete, just a little more obsolete.

I don't own a Mac Pro and was thinking of getting one if they were spec'd or priced competitively to other work stations available. Unfortunately, they are not. So I guess this is somehow my fault that the update is sub-standard and lacking features found elsewhere? One's ability to work is not tied into the quality of the machine, however, those in a position to buy a new machine, are not getting a good value.

Many have been waiting a long time for a new design and putting up with an old sluggish computer. You obviously have no work to do so wouldn't know what that is like.

I would have bought a Pro (single processor) just for buying a computer that would last me years, would be a Mac, would be fast, would offer a lot of disk space.

If it would last me years, it wouldn't have a 2 year old processor + graphics card, SATA II, usb 2.0, not TB. Now I'll wait for the iMac but I just want a tower…

I know a dedicated production facility in North Hollywood happy with their 2010 - NO COMPLAINTS, and a major player in the industry

I also know 3 post facilities out there (major) that are also happy - smashing out major projects for box office flix on a regular basis....

They could afford to go buy more expensive stuff if they wanted to....
They could go get 64 Core machines if they wanted, and they are running MP's due to performance and reliability.

Just sayin.

Oh, right, the anecdotal evidence of one dude on the internet who happens to know another dude will surely sway my buying habits. Just sayin...trollololol

I'm hoping the wait means something bigger than intel

seems like intel is slipping.

There are CRAZY processors out there already....

I mean, look at Tilera... I've only done a little reading on em, but DANG there is some promise there.

Can you imagine a Dual 100 Core Mac Pro??

The reality is, the technology is here. Not just Tilera, there are others rocking high counts too.

This philosophy almost killed Apple.
In the 80's, Steve Jobs wanted to continue to innovate and pushed the Lisa and the Macintosh, however the Pepsi guy wanted to continue to maximize the Apple II.
Yes, current Mac Pros are still fast, but to not upgrade the GPU??
To not make a simple revision of a SATA 3 connection that all other current Macs have?

This update does not affect people who "want" the latest or greatest, but rather affects people who "need" the latest and greatest.
This affects Pros, but also people who have been waiting 2 years for a Mac Pro, and although Apple may eventually properly update the Mac Pro, those who need to buy now are paying top dollar for 2-3 year old technology.

Just sayin...trollololol

I don't give a crap what you do.....

but to cry like nobody can function without an updated version of their beloved machine? Pffffff

Ok......

I know this is MacRUMORS, but geeeeeeeeeeeez.

Nothing but crying today.

Go buy something from Titanus and run Windows 8

(Good lord I hate windows..... troubleshooting the machine every other day, and a week down on every round of updates??? not for me)

Oh god you're annoying. Do you work at Apple?

You really had to start a whole thread just to tell people this?

I'm glad that I bought the Mac Pro over a year ago and have been enjoying it ever since. It's an awesome computer.

Then again your name is iBookG4user. ;-)

Did you get Youtube to work on yours without downloading the videos? That made me give up on mine.

Right, fight hyperbole with hyperbole. Are you finished? Did you get the attention you were looking for?

:thepennydrops: OH! that's what it is. You're twelve years old age!

I think expecting the new Mac Pro to be an update was more naive than believing that the Rapture was coming on the date predicted by Harold Camping, in hindsight. Faith in Apple doesn't pay off.

Not upgrading the GPU? : AGREED - Hands down, bad move.

No revision to SATA 3 ??? : Agreed, but a PCIe Card does the job (Granted, this poses a bit of issue for pros using lots of cards and not having the available slots short of using a rather spendy Chassis - however PCIe chassis came down a LOT - but having to consider going there, depending on your circumstances, not the greatest)

Affects Pros? Some... All? not likely, most? not likely.
Those who need to expand PCIe due to need can surely grab an expansion - since if they need that many slots, it's likely due to 10's of thousands in cards and breakout, so what's another $900

Also, as stated, I know a lot of pros getting it done with machines as old as 1,1's

And... I'm sure there are those who would like more....

And.... of course, the craziest stuff being done out there, isn't even using macs anyway, so why aren't the people who 'need' that over there anyway???

I don't get it.

If it's an issue, what is there to complain about? jump ship. and sell me your MP's for the dirt you think they're worth

What is the latest and greatest software driving these Dells & HPs that the MPs can't do?

Is the stuff just not possible or does it just take longer?

A new GPU would have been nice, I was holding out but will now just upgrade to a 5870 or re-visit macvidcards on ebay and see what's going on there.

Whole point was in the first post. Food for thought.

Is your Mac Pro really any less capable than it was yesterday?

If it was that bad, wouldn't you have jumped ship already?

----------

I am VERY surprised they didn't drop a new model, actually makes me hopeful.

Again, I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop a 64 core option next year - the tech is here, so why not.

Also, with some of their largest 3rd party having TB gear ready , obsoleting PCIe seems like the next move....

That's when I'll complain ;) when the PCIe hardware investment is obsolete ;)

vicious cycle.... especially for those dependent on proprietary hardware

It's one thing to complain about Apple... it's another thing to complain about complaining

Alas, I have not had an iBook in about 5 years. It was an awesome computer in its day though :)

I still have and love mine and if it weren't for the lack of support I'd still use it. I liked it when an Apple computer meant an Apple computer and not a PC with the Apple logo on it. I guess I'm nostalgic. But I couldn't have a future with a G5.

Ha. Agreed.

I actually just re-mastered a project for a major label... on a G5 ;)

Granted, it was only a couple audio sessions - one song with only around 40 tracks and 140 plugs .... and another session with about 22 hours of audio in it

It did the job... but obviously wouldn't cut it for everything.

Now, I much prefer my MP 1,1 - and it's what I use daily

I just thought it would make sense to do it on that rig, since it was sitting on that rig, and it could handle it just fine ;)

felt nostalgic ;)

Worse than that , I did a 'semi-major' project with a 64 I/O Pro Tools rig wrapped around a Dual 1.25 MDD on Panther, live, remote - ROCK SOLID 62 channels for 1.75 hrs, 24bit/48KHz, on 15K SCSI Drives

Gotta love the stability of a mac. I wouldn't have chanced that with a Win machine any day
