I forget how massive Apple's apologist crowd is.
Seriously, you people would apologize for anything. Apple is not your friend. They are a corporation. They should be held to standards if they want to continue getting your money. That's capitalism. Put out or get out.
US is just bad consumers lately eating all the crow with nary a complaint. "Yes corporation erode me in all ways I still pay". At least complainers have a backbone. Take some marketing classes. Apple "magic" withers and dies. I still love them for certain things but I love reality more. That's why I complain.

I agree. This is bad business. There is no reason why apple can't get a Sandy Bride Mac Pro in 2012. They have the resources, just not the will.

I don't give a crap what you do.....

but to cry like nobody can function without an updated version of their beloved machine? Pffffff

Ok......

I know this is MacRUMORS, but geeeeeeeeeeeez.

Nothing but crying today.

Go buy something from Titanus and run Windows 8

(Good lord I hate windows..... troubleshooting the machine every other day, and a week down on every round of updates??? not for me)

So your machine works great, that means that everyone should be happy buying inferior machines at top dollar. Your fanboy is showing, especially at the end.

Guys i`m not trying to be sarcastic nor am I trolling. I was hoping to upgrade my 1,1 but thats not going to happen. My question is, if apple no longer has a pro machine for pro apps and such. Do you think it will dummy down OSX. Meaning, why bother making OSX so robust with supporting multithreading and the like if there are no real multithreading machines. Yes I know they have MP still but I can`t see myself getting a dead horse, or anyone else for that matter. So I don`t see the reason for such a powerful OS(which is the only one I ever used) when there isn't a desktop to use it on. Well not for a couple of years if even then. Am I making any sense or not, I am confused. Thanks

Your machine was working for you yesterday wasn't it?

No! It's on the verge of quitting entirely! THAT is why a refresh is such a big deal for some of us. We don't know how much longer we can push the hardware we have, and yet it makes better business sense to defect to Windows and Adobe than to buy an ancient machine at full ticket.

People like you who commiserate are the worst. Apple KNEW they had strung us along and had us expecting a significant update (really? The same GPU???!!) and they dropped the ball.

So you're still driving your car from 1965, right?

After all, there is no need for upgrades into stuff like antilock brakes, stability control, seatbelts, airbags, better performance, etc, right because that old car still runs today.

In fact, I'm sure when you watch F1 or Nascar you see the old racecars from the 80's winning races today, right? After all they're just as good as they were then and any -real- driver could win with them.

And I know personally I hope that the Army and Navy are still using the weapons from WWII, because they still work just like they did back then.

I'm glad you took time to post this message, because now I realize that there is no need for technology to move forward at all.

My machine has barely been working. A 1,1 with 14gb of ram. I just bought a 4,1 quad for $1k and 24gb of ram TODAY and I'm not going to think about my computer for 2 more years. I would of given apple $3500 TODAY but I guess they dont care about that.

Apples latest insult will, in time, be the single greatest contributing factor to the exponential growth of the Hackint0sh community.

Couldn't agree more. I'm spending quite a bit of time trying to research this option or else I'm probably going to buy an HP workstation and go back to windows. Sad after 10 years of owning mac pros.

I'm very relaxed by Apple's actions of today. All of my Mac and PC machines are now better than they were yesterday. In fact, today inspired me to make all of my systems even faster. Thanks Apple. You're my inspiration.

Glad you're inspired ! I feel the same way, because of the help you've provided to make that happen... :)

I'm With You !!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad that I bought the Mac Pro over a year ago and have been enjoying it ever since. It's an awesome computer.

I'm With You !!!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought a NEW mac Pro and couldn't be happier! Bought a 5,1 to replace my aging 2,1.

I'm a 30+ year graphics professional happily making money on my Mac Pro.

I think the people who are complaining the most are computer hobbyists. Proof of that is all the talk of building Hackintoshes. The pros are too busy making money on their Macs to be complaining all day.... :p

+1 and another $450 today! :D

I sometimes wonder whether these people get paid by Apple PR.

Don't need to get paid by Apple PR.

I make enough USING my Mac Pro.... :D

I also make money using a computer. I don't feel the need to apologise for the mistakes my computer's manufacturer makes. I also question what the best way for me is to get my work done, as opposed to just accept the slow and inefficient way.

New Mac Pro's are still available, probably more updated then the one you have now.

Never heard of classic cars? People love driving those around.

Being retired from the Navy myself 4 years ago, I can assure you they still use old technology. Many ships I have been on were based on 1970's technology. It takes quite a long while for things to catch up due to money, repair parts, design & testing.

Even if they are now developing new technology ( For the military ) up to todays standards, once it finally gets implemented maybe 8-10 years from now and already out of date.

During the first Gulf war they were using a mothballed battleship from world war II because it has firepower in some cases, that is hard to match.

In fact the military will continue to use some old tech because in some cases its actually better...like sound powered phones...which continue to work even though the power might go out.

I don't think this is really a question of what you can or cannot do on the current Mac Pro line. I'm a professional video editor and I get by just dandy on my 8-core machine from 2008.

BUT...

Today, Mac Pros are Intel-based workstations with the same hardware inside running a different operating system. How long can Apple really rest on Mac OS's laurels? To bring up the Hollywood example, I can tell you with little doubt that the number of FCP workstations vs. Avid ones are practically split down the middle. And many high-end Avids include dedicated hardware that only functions in Windows. Adobe Premiere has become a big contender and it's cross-platform.

So now, say you're a post facility and you just approved funds for upgrading your FCP workstations. You find there's really nothing noteworthy to upgrade to, because you already have 99% of what Apple sold you back in 2010. Need to add extra edit bays? Now, you're feeling cheated because you're expected to pay top dollar for 2-3 year old hardware. And if your post facility jumped ship to Avid or Premiere, those new HP Z800 workstations start looking mighty appealing in comparison.

Apple's success in the video post production field in particular was mostly attributed to the fact that Apple was able to offer FCP at a fraction of the cost of an Avid. But this was years ago. Now, Apple has fierce competition and has lost a lot of that hold. To put it bluntly, platform loyalty only stretches so far before people get fed up.

My 2008 Mac Pro gets the job done right now. Would I like to transcode video and render AE compositions faster? Sure. But do I want to pay current prices for 2010 technology to get a faster Mac? Not so much. This is what people are frustrated about. I am an Apple user and I would prefer to keep using OS X, but at the same time, I'm not going to apologize for a company that has clearly shown a lack of interest.

Thank you, Captain Chunk. I am not sure why the apologist crowd does not get that.

I would think this primarily would be more of an issue with a single editor with running his own business rather then a much larger company.

Larger companies are primarily worried about lost productivity, not about upgrading unless they really have too, because upgrading multiple computers/software is costly. About the only time they would worry about buying more workstations if they are expanding and need more workers or workstations on its last leg that needed to be replaced. They would probably opt at getting the latest one and go from there.

And that time has come again. Apple is again challenging the price point of Pro video editing software priced 1k or even more. While the current Pro editors may not be happy with the current FCP X or even Mac Pro ( Until they complete the current updates of both ) they are targeting a much larger audience and future up & coming video editors.

Video editing is also changing. Moving into the prosumer level even more then before. We still need top Pro editors of course, that need is never going away.
