How do those of you who have received your SR MBPs feel about the overall quality of your purchase? Any noticeable/significant imperfections (yellow bleeding/sound issues?). It would be nice to know if all of the complaints have been coming from a majority or an unlucky minority.

I'm very pleased and this is the best quality MBP I've had (my 11th MBP!):
- perfect assembly with no gaps, bulges, dents or other signs of sloppy assembly.
- feels lighter than previous ones - the two ounces make a difference!
- everything works perfectly, no defective components or issues
- heat is controlled and acceptable. Wouldn't mind cooler, but it's fine/
- no sounds, hisses or squeaks (had to fix loose battery with a piece of electrical tape, but I've done that with powerbooks since the titanium G4s. No big deal)
- the display is a little bit mixed. It's definitely a huge step up fro previous versions, but it is difficult to calibrate because of the yellow tint. Using the default profile ColorLCD, the yellowish tint is all over so it isn't noticeable because your eyes adjust. When you calibrate it though, the screen has a yellow tint in the lower quarter, above which is completely standard crisp white. It's a little annoying, but taken as a whole the display is very nice so I might be able to live with it.
that's it. Great computer with minor weaknesses.

My light sensor seems to sensitive and every time I reach to the top of my computer to hit the numbers the screen dims and the keyboard lights come on. I like this feature but it is too sensitive.

Everything about my new MBP is perfect, except for the display. I find the yellow tint along the bottom 1/3 of the screen completely unacceptable. I'm going to exchange it tonight, and if the new one has it, I guess I'll live with it.
But I am not pleased. A premium product marketed as professional grade for graphics work should be able to render colors consistently. I don't understand why Apple has such trouble getting quality displays.

I love my 2.2 model
I bought the new low-end last Friday, and so far I love it. It is very fast, and the screen is incredibly bright ("too bright" according to my wife, who is yet to master the brightness buttons).
I have played Doom 3, UT2004, and WoW on it already, and the graphics are very good, even though this is the 128mb model and I am playing the Mac versions.
Keyboard feels good. Laptop is a LOT larger than my old 12" PowerBook G4, but not a lot heavier. I don't like the fact that the DVD slides out the front as it means you cannot use it on your lap. I love the backlit keyboard.

I bought the 15" 2.4 GHz last week and LOVE it. Very speedy. Battery life and wireless range are both excellent. I really like the MBP keyboard too.
Considering I had to return two and still don't have one, I'd say there's some problems. As I mentioned in another thread, the standard res 17" screens are terrible. Major light leakage at the bottom, dark areas around the screen, etc. Maybe the store I went to got a bad batch, I don't know, but the backlighting on the ones I got were the worst I have ever seen.
I ordered a high res model online and I hope it has a better quality screen than the standard res.

A lot of people seem to have this yellowish tint (perhaps everyone). Is it "yellowish" when you get it out of the box, or only after you calibrate it? ...and if so, how essential is it to calibrate it?
I'd be fine with the yellowish tint. I wish mine hadn't had backlight bleeding
Sorry guys, I know I was going to take pics but I had to get it packed up to ship off.
All in all, happy. My first one had a screen issue whereby you could see scan lines pulsating at 60 Hz. Exchanged. I've had several threads myself about issues with my second, but they were just sanity checks. People responded that I should ignore the issues, [as I hoped they'd say!!].
The molding just above the CD slot is loose, & sometimes grabs an arm hair & pulls it out. The left side tab, caps lock, & shift key stick up above flush on their left side. And when powered speakers are plugged it, at times a high pitched squeel goes through the speakers, making me press mute, since I have my speakers set loud enough the squeel is too loud.
Minor enough compared to how awesome the screen is, [on my exchanged unit]. And it is FAST. My last Mac laptop was a PowerBook G4 1.33 GHz. My new SR MBP is so much faster I can not put them in the same league.
If up to me, I'd just have the best desktop I could afford. But for work I have to provide my own laptop, and a MBP blows away any Wintel based laptop! When I get home I just use a bluetooth keyboard & mouse & it's like having a docking station. Oh, as for using a flat panel at home. I have a nice Samsung, but I got so hooked on my 15" MBP LED screen I just use it!!

When you get it out of the box, the whole screen is yellowish. When you calibrate the screen, the yellow tint disappears everywhere except the bottom 1/3.
I almost wonder if Apple intentionally set the default color profile to mask the yellow tint.
Apparently the previous models had even worse displays?? I can't believe these new *superior LEDs are defective as well. This is making me consider buying a pc. Does apple not even check their machines to make sure they are not defective before selling? To pay 2500 for a premium machine, and have anything less than a perfect display/machine dead is outrageous.
Are deflective displays as such common among all notebooks, or just apple...I know all the pc notebook displays i've had were fine.
Oh yeah, forgot to comment on this in my reply. Yeah, mine does this too. In a thread I started, everyone said it was more or less normal. Since 99% of the time I am in an office with lights that don't change, I decided to just disable the automatic dimming and the backlight features. If I ever take it on say an airplane I'll just turn them back on...

Enter key was not exact was not exactly flush but they fixed that at the apple store. My battery also has a little up and down movement.

dang, i want a mac but with all this crap going on with them i'm starting to reconsider.....rrrrrrrrrr.....mabey wait for the next update or something.

What crap? Come on, this is a handful of issues, and people come to places like MR because they have issues they want to talk about. There are a good number of positive posts around, which is very encouraging.
I have to agree. Few post here saying all is well. No one makes a perfect laptop. Last year for work I ordered a Dell Lattitude [business model] laptop. Problems, sent back for exchange. Got the new one, less problems, was going to try to live with it, when the enter key broke off. I said screw it & sent it back.
Botom line, we buy Macs beacuse we love OS X. The hardware is not perfect. But it's usually bleeding edge and is usually completely usable. They have duds. But who doesn't????
I'll try again to capture it, but it's really difficult. It's a very subtle yellow tint and when I took pictures of white (which is where you notice the most), it wasn't really visible. I posted some gray ones where you can see a very slight yellowish cast, but it really is with whites that it become obvious.

Received 15" glossy 2.4 GHz 160 GB 5400 rpm yesterday. Used it for a couple hours. Fantastic screen (best I have ever seen). Was on the internet via WifFI in less than a minute. Was on iChat within a few more (and never used it before, was talked through it from another user). Very happy I went for the glossy-- no real glare issues. In fact, wondered if I got the matte by mistake because no glare but then I looked from extreme angle and saw the "glossy" look. The unit is very light. Didn't get very warm. My only issue has to do with Parallels and this probably just needs more time. I loaded it and was happy to see the automatic prompt to update to 3.0. That went fine. However, having significant trouble loading XP. Have disc from XP SP1 2002 and a XP SP2 "professional" disc (which may be an upgrade disc). Could not get either to load. Hmmm... too old versions? Maybe the upgrade was the problem. Perhaps I need a new copy. I have Vista on a Dell laptop downloaded from web. Need to figure if I can "transfer" the software (activation). Oh well, overall very happy so far....

I don't know, this might just be me, but does that really say so much about the current versions quality? Except that Macbook Pros quality suck? I can't understand how mac people complain so ****ing much on all other brands and says that Apple machines are sooooo superior when they always seem to suck.

Well, first version ran warm, had ****** dvd-readers, crashed, and whatever, second version wasn't perfect either, and now we are the third. Why would the fourth be any better?

I don't know what graphics card it has, had 256MB vram atleast, and 1680x1050 resolution, it's also 13492 sek vs Macbook Pro at 17995 sek.
Lenovo Thinkpad Z61m Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz / 2048MB / 120GB / TFT15.4 / DVD-RW / Win XP Pro is 14520 sek, comes with x1400 which is a little bit slower but 1680x1050 screen on that one aswell.
Thought Lenovo might not be the best for gamers...

IBM Thinkpad T60p seems awesome, very expensive thought (and comes with X1400 it seems).

With that being said, my dvd player is not automatically recognizing DVD's even though I have it set to do so. Everytime I put a DVD in I have to open my DVD player maually. It recognizes the disk but the DVD player doesn't open. Any troubleshooting ideas?

I should clarify: my machine had no other problems. The battery was not loose, the keys were not misaligned, the speakers did not make any noise, nothing. The display was also absolutely gorgeous, one of the best LCD's I've ever seen (not just the best laptop LCD) - except for the subtle, annoying yellow tinge at the bottom of the screen. If the laptop as a whole wasn't such high quality, the yellow probably wouldn't even bother me. As it is, it stands out.
