As was mentioned earlier, forums like this tend to make it seem like there is something wrong with every new MBP. It's kind of like the evening news; only problems and bad things are usually mentioned.

Luckily, I can state that my new 17" SR MBP is flawless. Excellent build quality, no dead pixels, beautiful screen (high-res), even keyboard, and no gaps or dents. If I had to find something is wrong with it, I would say that I almost get annoyed with how perfect it is.

So don't worry, there are good ones out there. Hopefully you'll get one!

(I just read over my post, and I think it might sound a little cheesy. Sorry about that.)

Love mine

I got mine Monday morning.
I love it.
No problems.
Best display I have seen for Apple in years.
Very fast
2.4Ghz 160HD 2GB ram 256 vram

Love mine too. Upgraded to 4GB of memory, the start up time
is amazingly quick. The screen is great, the battery gives me much more
than any previous powerbook (around 4.5 hours of easy tasks).
It's barely warm, quiet, but if fan kicks in it's quite noisy actually...
n wireless which I upgraded my place to is great! Much faster than g.
CS3 is screaming, all the tasks are very fast. Lightroom loads tons of
images really quick, C1 works great....
An amazing machine and a great upgrade.

I'm gonna add yet another "me too" here. Waited like ages to get my first Mac, and I love it! I still have to get used to some of the features of the OS, but the hardware is perfect. Yellow tint? If you didn't mentioned it I didn't see it. I'm running the calibrated ICC-profile posted elsewhere on this forum.
Really, all issues about this thing are minor. You might get a flaw here and then, and that's standard for each manufacturing process. Don't worry about it, warranty is supposed to take care of those things.
If you doubt because of the "horror stories" here, don't. Get one and love it.

I got mine today and I still haven't spent too much time with it (posting from the PB). It's totally fine: no pulsating backlight, no bleeding, no dead pixels, no yellow tint (I am just not seeing it), no popping keys, ... (MBP on left, high mileage PB on right, white background, screen brightness on max):

There's a bit more banding (in red only??) than on my PB but it's fine. And yes, these keyboard light does come one too easily when you type numbers. It's not hot but I wouldn't mind it a tad cooler. LCD won't open too far - that's my biggest gripe really. So in short, I'm really happy with it so far.

Question: I am calibrating the battery (should I?). How long does it take for MPB to shut down after it goes to sleep due to low battery???

I will never buy another PC

MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz/15"matte/2GB/160GB/256MB

Arrived at 12:30pm 08 June 2007, exactly as promised by Amazon.com

Fit and finish is impeccable, the operation is flawless.

Screen is amazingly bright, clear with razor sharp images. The first time
I brought the MBP up from sleep the screen flashed on so quickly it was
actually somewhat startling.

Have an AirPort Extreme wireless unit, and that was not only incredibly easy to set up, but I have excellent coverage all throughout the house (ranch), main floor and finished basement. Haven't yet tried it outside.

Trackpad is amazing! After only a few days, I much prefer this trackpad over any PC dual button. The scrolling and two-finger tap features are not only intuitive, but much faster than a two button track pad like on my Dell Inspiron, but is another subtle example of superior design and engineering.

In fact, all of the controls for the laptop are very well thought out. The auto screen brightness works almost imperceptibly, and the lighted keyboard is marvelous.

This machine simply exudes quality and understated sophistication, from the feel of the materials, to the overall design, to the way the unit functions as a whole.

I post this not to brag, but to let people know there are no doubt plenty of us who have zero complaints regarding our new MBP's.

I can't help but wonder that perhaps some of these problems are simply more noticeable because long-time Mac users have come to expect the utmost in quality, and anything less than perfection really stands out?

good honest happiness, thats what we need around here. far too many 'MBP is crap' posts going on making us [current windows users] considering switching have second thoughts...

what with talk of flickering, yellow tints and the like - I read over at 'discussions.mac.com' its a 'problem in all LED screens. really positive that  Anyway, its good to have news from happy users that get on and use their machines... just need to find time to head down to the apple store myself now!

I am satisfied with it.

Do not get the whole yellowish tinge frenzy that is going around too, at least I just do not see it on mine. Even if I do end up seeing it I will not be bothered anyway, I do not do serious colour work on the MacBook Pro.

If Iwoot is happy, everybody should should be able to be happy. I'm very happy too, even if I don't really like the yellow tint...it's a great notebook.

I swear that when I joined here two and a half years ago there was much less moaning around here!

My MBP is perfect. No yellow tint, no issues with anything at all. It's much better than my old Dual 1.8 G5 and I finally have a portable music studio! I'm very happy. Just another satisfied customer.

I can only echo that you tend to get the moaners on threads like this, and they aren't representative of the majority. If you have a perfect product afterall, you're not looking for places to get help are you.

LOL if I keep coming to this website I am going to go INSANE!! my mind does a 360 every time I read a new thread!!! who to believe??? ahhhhhh....im just gonna say F it and get something!!!

.... And when powered speakers are plugged it, at times a high pitched squeel goes through the speakers, making me press mute, since I have my speakers set loud enough the squeel is too loud. ....

This sounds like a simple issue to fix and is not a 'problem' with the computer. Quite simply put it sounds like you are getting feedback from the onboard microphone. (there is a small omni condensor mic below the left hand speaker grill). Open up System Preferences, click on Sound, click on the Input tab. If the box that shows up next has the "Internal microphone" highlighted then simply click on the 'Line In', this will turn off the microphone and cancel the feedback squeal that you were hearing.

Hope this helped, have fun with the new computer.

How do those of you who have received your SR MBPs feel about the overall quality of your purchase? Any noticeable/significant imperfections (yellow bleeding/sound issues?).

I am completely satisfied with the quality of my new MBP. The only thing that could be better is the viewing angle of the display. Not that this is a quality issue, though. It's a limitation of the technology used to manufacture the ultra-thin panels employed by Apple's design.

As for the yellow tint reported by some, I only notice it when I tilt my head just right. Again, I think it's more an issue with the viewing angle rather than a defect in the display. I was cheking out a friends ThinkPad just this afternoon and noticed similar color shifts under similar conditions. Plus I have co-workers with cheap-o Dells and HPs that are downright horrible in this regard. It's just something to get used to with laptops.

On the plus side, I'm pleased to report:
  • Excellent build quality.
  • Excellent performance.
  • Fast boot/load times.
  • Nearly silent operation.
  • No heat issues.
  • No crashes.
  • No non-working ports.
  • No dead pixels.
  • Great wireless range.
  • Fantastic keyboard and trackpad.
And the list goes on...
