Do you use it? Who do you have? What are some good reasons to use it?

I have kind of mixed feelings about using this app.

Track your kids
Track your partner
Track your employee

I don't use it as I have the only iPhone in my house. I trust my wife so wouldn't need to track her.
My daughter doesn't go out, and I don't have any employees.

My wife and I use this all the time. It's great for indicting that my wife will be home soon when I get a notification she just left "Church" or that I'll be home shortly when she gets a notification that I just left "Work." We only use this so long as we both consent. We do not do this with the either of the kids since they do not consent.

I like the way Find my Friends lets you set your own custom names to locations marked by an area. I hope that the OS does this eventually so that other apps could use these custom named locations.

My wife and I use it. its our families habit to greet each other when someone returns to our house. Everyone outside and welcome whoever has been gone. Love it! Now there ain't as much need for me to text my location - although most of the time I still do.

Like most, my wife and I have it on each other. I first suggested it because when we were engaged she was going to night school in the hood and sometimes I would be asleep when she got out or she would forget to text me that she was out. It's peace of mind. I also have it on my mom because she is getting up there in age and although she lives with my brother, he's not always home to look after her, or if she's out and about and so am I; I can offer her a ride provided I'm close to her location.

I use it once in a while, we meet up .. I ask them to turn it on so we dont have to keep track via phone etc. They drive saver, we dont have to be so precise about time..

ping! friend x has left work ..
ping! your niece arrived at grandma ..

I love how you can set the radius so you can get an early warning, or 'leaving now' kinda feeling.

It just helps, and no hard feelings when they turn it off again.

Anyone on an iPhone 5 use this? How does it do for battery length!
I've had it on mine for a while and never had an issue. Only does anything if you load it up to check on other people or it will use your GPS etc only if someone you have allowed to track you decides to look for you. Its not constantly running sending out location info etc.

The whole family has it enabled for emergency use

Same really just for emergency uses, in case for what ever reason they don't know where there are, or had an accident or something like that on them lines.

Use it every now and again when I'm meeting up with friends to see if they have actually left yet.... or where about they are so I know how much time I have left.

i wonder how the find my friends widget impacts things. e.g. does it refresh everytime you pull down the NC? only when on today tab? only when waiting for a bit? only if not fetched in the last 5 minutes or so? only gets a rough geofence type location when using the widget, precise location only fetched for the app/Messages?

worst case scenario, you have a friend using the widget and they check NC (for other widgets) a lot, fetching your precise location each time.

I used it once on NC for me I didn't have a use for it on the NC, I just use as I mentioned above. So seeing where everyone every time I pulled down became a bit of a nuisance. Plus it felt cluttered for me, I like seeing what I have on, reminders etc I know you can move them but just seemed pointless moving it to the bottom.

true i don't think it's of much use to me. but one of those things where it's not whether you use it, but if your friends do. as that impacts on you.

I have it in the NC and from what i can tell :-

I have my phone set to ask for a pin code every so often rather than every unlock and if its due a pin code it wont show me any location details so presume its not pinging the other persons phone

If i scroll past it to stuff above or below it then it doesnt refresh the information, i have to stop with it in the middle of the screen almost for it to actually decide to refresh. That also suggests if you are on the Today tab then it wont update either.

I travel round the UK a lot with work and the Wife likes to know that I have gotten to my destination safely. Problem is that I am terrible for remembering to text here 'I'm here'. Enter, Find My Friends. Saves me having to remember to text her.

I use it with my parents and my partner.

My father for example has an obsession with knowing where I am at all times (I'm 32......................) so instead of calling and texting I just let him check where I am.

We need a jailbreak spoof that can report the incorrect location.
You could really have fun with your dad then ;)

I'd love to have friends where it was cool to know where they were and swing by if I was around. I guess I just haven't asked them if they think the same.
