No use for it.Goes into the ever increasing Apple junk folder

Same here. I don't see a use for it. I trust my girlfriend, so I don't need to see where her location is at any given time. Plus, we communicate via text regualarly when we're both at work anyway.

I've used it to time when to have dinner ready (i.e., when my husband had left work). The kids use it to see where we are sometimes when they are waiting by the door for mommy or daddy.

I don't think its necessarily about trust (although it can be), but more for peace of mind.

My missus takes a windy road home from work, and its comforting to know that if she were to crash and not be able to be seen from the road, I would know where she was. Although I probably wouldn't check until it was too late.... and now I've made my self sad :(

Yep. I can track my kids and husband but they can do the same to me. In reality it rarely gets used, but I like knowing its there when I want it.
It won't be long and even this app will be obsolete, People will one day have no option to opt out and be implanted with a tracking device. I guess at my age I grew up in a time that we didn't have a need to worry about who was watching everything we do.
As for keeping track of our kids??? My guess is those that don't want to be tracked will find an out to fool mom and dad.

An implanted chip seems a bit paranoid…and as for keeping track of kids, if you look at my post above, the kids actually use it on me for innocent stuff like finding out when I'm on the way home from the grocery store or I use I to time when to have dinner ready by when my husband leaves work. But even those uses are rare. And yes any parent realizes that teenagers will find ways around restrictions. It has always been that way long before technology played a part.

Not everybody thinks using this app is creepy or even approaches it as long as there is mutual consent.

I think to be fair most of FF is the above, peace of mind was a good one I've quoted. its not so much creepy if its there consent as well, plus if my other half wants to cheat on me let her be, I'll take all the expensive stuff and leave the house :p (not that she would have you seen me? jokes!).

As for the last quote I completely agree going back some time my time to come home was, when the sun was setting (getting dark etc) Unfortunately in this day and age no-one can really be trusted

Why do I get the feeling that FF is more about social hook ups than anything family involved?

Your right there is that as well, as I said at the beginning I use it to track my mates when they are leaving so I know a rought ETA for when they get to mine or a location. Or even if I meeting them somewhere, FF if I'm close to get the correct location or FF then onto maps for directions.

Anyone have trouble with an old Apple ID (or rather, email address that has since been updated to a more recent one) showing up in it? Under the 'Me' section.

The only thing paranoid is the reality we all see happening all around us. I think some would call it a form of surveillance. Its done under the pretense of innocence and to keep us safe.
I'm not faulting you or your family for using it... Just expressing my view in that one simple thing can lead to more, and at what point do those that don't object end up realizing the possible harm that can come of any form of surveillance.

I'm well aware and concerned about gov't and corporate surveillance. But since FF is completely opt-in, I'm not so worried about it.

I'm sure the intent of the app is to keep tabs on your friends for social meetups, etc... but of course, there are some who will abuse the tool. As I stated above, I have used it on occasion, and my opinion may be different if I had kids/teens that I felt the need to track.

And the issue can also be about trust - but that also comes from relationship, and is a whole other discussion.

I use it with friend of mine emigrated to Australia from Canada. It was pretty cool to watch where he was when he was traveling to and from Toronto for a visit a couple of years after he moved. Also came in handy when we arranging one of our meet ups.

Shouldn't it be off on an airplane?
