Chinese is what I have when I'm with broke friends or when I'm falling-down drunk. As a result I haven't had Chinese out of choice for nearly 10 years, and thinking about it even my non-voluntary visits have been just a couple of leaving do's at some of the better Chinese places in London.

Indonesian, Korean, Thai very occasionally. Indian a bit more frequently due to friends preferences. Japanese very frequently.
 
I have two places I buy from regularly. From place A, it's always honey garlic chicken, which comes with an egg roll and pork fried rice. From place B, it's always a pint of beef fried rice & an egg roll. Now I'm hungry.

General Tso's chicken with pork fried rice and broccoli.

Used to eat Shrimp with Lobster Sauce all the time.

When I was a kid and my mother would call in to order Chinese, the lady would always remember to add "American Fried Shrimp" for me. That place is long gone. The small places in the mini-malls are great.
 
One time, I went into a chinese fastfood place, and I ordered honey chicken, lemon chicken, Shanghai noodles, schezuan pork, and chicken wings, and they smacked the back of my head and said, "And you call yourself chinese?" ;)

PS: Honey chicken =the s***.

There's this Ramen shop in Denver that serves this Oudon Noodle Ramen that is to die for. It's about 7 bucks a bowl, but it's more than worth it. They have awesome gyozas as well.

When I go thai I do anything that has lots of rice/noodles and is spicy.

When I go Japanese I generally get sushi (unagi, yellow tail) and teryaki rice bowls.

You do realize that chinese and Japanese isn't the same, right? ;)

I don't get why people have to bring up another asian country when we're talking about chinese. I think Chinese and Japanese foods are as separate as Chinese and Indian food.
 
Well, ramen noodles did originally come from China.
Anyways, I usually go with General Tso/Tao/Tzo/Patton's chicken, which usually comes with pork fried rice. Sometimes I get hot & sour soup, and/or an egg roll, and/or crab rangoons.
If I want a change, I usually get pepper steak with onions, or lo mein instead of fried rice.

Of course, most of the food originated in China or Mongolia. There are so many different kinds of noodles between Asia and Europe.

That was a good article. They mentioned my favourite Korean ramen company but not the brand name of the certain recipe. I still can't believe that Nissin hasn't improved their noodle recipe since 1958. They always taste like wet cardboard ot me.

yes, but I listed them because there weren't seperate threads at the time,and didn't want to sound TOO uncultured with my "combination fried rice." :p
 
Depends on where I am, since I really never get Chinese...

- DC (at lunch), would be the buffet take out, so as full of sesame chicken and egg rolls as I can get the carton, plus a container of egg drop (their hot/sour sucks)

- DC (at dinner), this was the only Chinese dinner I've had in three years, and it was an organic place (in W. Park). Orange Chicken with Rice. Very simple.

- Baltimore (at lunch), Lexington Market...Teriyaki Chicken. Medium. Fried Rice. For $3, it's the most filling you can get in the city.
 
mmm...crispy chicken with black bean sauce. or sesame chicken. or hot and sour soup. or singapore noodles. i love chinese food :)

Yes, I have special noodle bowls to go with the stuff I buy at the Korean grocery.
 
China bowl:I usually get veggie lo mein, some cream cheese puffs, and a veggie spring roll if I feel like it.


Hunan village: I close my eyes, open the menu to the vegetarian page and point. The veggie sesame chicken is GOOD! The Veggie sweet and sour chicken, Aslo good! The Veggie General Tso is soooo goood... MMM
I always get it with a bow of veggie-egg drop soup and a veggie spring roll. Lots of white rice.

I live in Vancouver
there are more chinese restaurants than fast food places here.
and no I am not kidding come here and see.


my take out varies by season and by general feeling but I like;

Prawn and Mushroom Congee < beats chicken soup when sick
Buddha's Special Chow Mein < lots of mushrooms
BBQ Peking Duck < yum...
Beef Chop Suey with rice on side < for the other person
Wonton Noodle soup with Duck < quick meal
Steamed gai lan with oyster sauce < need them veggies

Tomorrow I am going out for lunch for some wicked dim sum, yum prawn and scallop steamed dumpling, Deep fried calamari, mushroom rolls...arrghh now I am hungry.

Such nasty noodles. Blech.

In my experience, european style pasta survives the drying-packing-shipping-cooking cycle lot better than asian style noodles. At least as far as readily available stuff. We don't have many specialty asian food stores around here...so I wouldn't know about the nicer stuff.

I tried instant udon once. Major PITA to eat. The noodles kept slipping out of my chopsticks. :mad: That, and I thought they tasted kinda funky, even though they're basically the same as ramen, just bigger and not dried. Also, don't bother with the instant yakisoba if you see it, so much water stays in the container, it's not even close to being right.

Egg Rolls
Tons of extra white rice. (I <3 rice)

I split it with my mom, we pig out seldomly. :p

They often use shark in fish'n'chips in Oz. :)
