Just noticed on ios you can't buy and rent movies and can't link google play music to download music or videos to the device natively

I rented the interview last night on YouTube app and streamed it to my tv.

Why is apple blocking people from using YouTube the same way people can use it on android?

Apple isn't blocking it, it's probably Google not including the ability to purchase in the app because they don't want to pay Apple the 30% App Store fee. You can still watch your purchases in the app though, just slide out the menu panel from the side and select "purchases".

In Google play music you can download albums you have purchased from the play store and you can download all the content if you are an all access subscriber.

Google do not have a play store app on iOS however so you must use your browser to purchase the content. Remember on Android in Google Play Music you do not purchase from there - all it does is provide link to open the Google Play Store app on the Android device.

My biggest gripe with Google Play Music on iOS however is that it doesn't show music already stored on your device and in the app library.

Other third party music apps have no trouble integrating with your existing music library, indeed many can even show your iTunes Match content in the cloud too - so it's a design choice by Google to exclude your existing content in GPM on iOS which is annoying as it means have to use an extra app.

As for Google Play Wallet .... That doesn't even work here on Android devices let alone iOS...,

Why doesn't apple just let people purchase things out side of itunes? I don't get it.they are half way there

I think this goes both ways. I don't think Apple makes it easy to use other services to buy content other than their own content channel. But Google is the same way. I think this is business as usual for both sides.

I think Google should grow some balls and tell apple if you want my services maps,gmail.youtube and music you need to let users use them the way they were ment to be used or we will not license them to you anymore.

If google pulled youtube from ios apple would change it ways in a heart beat.

I will give credit to apple they are almost there though

That would be great to see. But I think it is a business decision for them. They can get revenue from the page hits on YouTube. Also you cannot get iTunes on Android and buy content either. In my opinion this is standard business practice.

Yeah Its a little annoying because you can get it done but just need to do a few steps first.

Like my friend with apple tv wanted to watch the interview but was a no go in iTunes but I told him it's on YouTube so just rent it there.

He had to do a few loops to get it to work but he watched the movie after paying for it on a android tablet and then refreshing his youtube app on ios

To be fair, Apple did purge the YouTube app from iOS in iOS 6. So they are certainly not afraid.

Good riddance, I say. The YouTube app for iOS is a laggy piece of crap. I am using the protube app and am shocked by how much smoother the streaming experience is.

Apple is and always will be a more closed ecosystem. This is not new to anyone. Personally I don't want use iTunes to buy music on Android or IOS.

and to be fair...they own this service so all content and revenue goes to them. Its not like they are letting a competing service app do this. This service and brand name also existed and was successful. Then Apple bought them correct?

I doubt Google could afford the risk as they have a nice little arrangement with Apple in this regard. It would be devastating for both parties if they fell out.

How so? Google has no in app purchases on any ios device and they get nothing from maps,gmail and Google music in advertising.

The only google app that makes google money is youtube on ios and android has 85% world market share right now.

Its the other way around.google has the upper hand and could make ios horrible without native youtube and maps alone.

More Android phones are sold in Europe yet iOS devices make up the lions share of the mobile Internet traffic so there is something very wrong with the assumption of those figures.

Google services have a very welcome association with iOS and cutting the tie would be damaging. Anybody who claims it wouldn't has little credibility as far as I am concerned. We all know how this sector works and the last time Google removed a major service they produced a workaround because it was beneficial for all parties. You don't squeeze a business partner that gives your company maximum exposure at the end of the day. I don't need to elaborate any more.

A crap load of android devices show up as ios devices because of the browser kit they run.I use the browser for fb and when I make posts it says from ios device all the time
