Is anyone having issues with youtube? As of this morning i am unable to play about 99% of the videos in youtube when going tru the youtube app. the error is "This movie could not be played".
Everything was working fine as of last night, no changes have been made. I checked the apple support forums and apparently a few other people are experiencing this....
if i go tru Safari, i am able to play the videos ok though....very weird.
Thanks

Beginning at about 2am, certain Youtube videos stopped working on iPhone. They still work on the regular computer, and they are not simply "verify your age." They are videos all throughout Youtube. For me, I would say about 50% stopped working and about 50% still work. All of them still work on the regular computer. Here is what the screen looks like:

Thats the exact thing I'm getting, however found it strange that I contacted a coworker who works about 40 min. away and his works just fine.
The difference is for me it's about 95% or more videos give me that error, definitely not 50-50. I mean just going to the "most viewed" page and trying to click on any of them brings up that message so it's not like im picking some obscure videos.
Well at least I'm not alone....

You're definitely not alone. I've had the same problem with my iPod touch.
It's weird because it's even videos I have bookmarked and know I've watched.

I'm in Toronto and I'm having the same problem with my youtube app.

It worked perfectly last night, and now this morning it's good for *hit!

Any updates? It's still not working on my phone. This is unlike Apple to let such a catastrophic error to occur and allow it to go 19 hours in the absence of repair. What is going on ????

I was able to fix mine last nite by doing a restore on the phone.....I heard some people doing the same and still having the issue but for others it worked.

I called Rogers (Canada) customer service a couple of minutes ago and they said they've received hundreds of calls regarding the youtube issue.

They said it has nothing to do with cellular or apple...it is solely to do with youtube servers.

I'm not sure if I should believe the C/S agent or not....she could have been just passing the buck on the problem.

Any thoughts?

I'm tempted to call Apple Support.
I still think it's a problem with the YouTube servers.

I called them yesterday...they were the ones who suggested a restore, however for some the restore did not fix the issue, i dont think its with youtube because if you go to Safari and play the videos tru there, it works fine

A restore would most likely not fix the issue since this is a widespread problem.

BTW the Rogers rep suggested restoring and/or resetting network settings....I agree with the above post, I don't think it would help considering the wide spread of this issue.

Seems I also got a problem. All the vids in the "most viewed Today, This Week,..." section won't work.

But my bookmarked videos work and also if you do a search for ex "kristen Bell + Ferguson", "oscars 2009" those videos work.

But a search for the "crazy woman at Hong Kong airport" won't load.

seems the problem are with newer vids, maybe someone at youtube switched or mixed up the regular flash vidz server with the mp4 specific iphone/ipod touch files???

Ipod Touch 1st gen, 16Gb + JB + fw 2.1

I live in Europe.

This is definitely not a specific region or device problem then, look below:

I also just called and they said for me to restore even after I told them that will not work!
And why is it that every time I call AppleCare I get some guy that can't even speak English!

I'm going to go to the Apple store in my area and tell the guys at the Genius bar and see if they can "file a report" to Apple's tech team up in Cupertino. It will be interesting to ask the Apple employees how many other people have come in saying that Youtube isn't working right. As far as I'm concerned, since Apple advertises Youtube in their advertisements and the phone comes preloaded with a Youtube icon, although Apple may not be Youtube, Apple is responsible to their own customers and Apple better get on the phone with Youtube and get this fixed ASAP. Believe it or not, if Apple does nothing, users could actually file a class action lawsuit against Apple (since the phone is advertised showing Youtube and it comes pre-loaded with Youtube). I have absolutely no intentions to file a lawsuit, but Apple would be making themselves susceptible to a lawsuit from someone else *IF* they do nothing at all about this problem.

If they told you to restore then they could obviously speak English :)

It seems to be a Youtube App problem. If you go through Safari, youtube site, search for the video and click it, it will work.

youtube and embedded video problem [SOLVED]

i was having similar issues as the rest of you guys. youtube videos and any embedded videos were not working. i did a reset and a restore and i was still having issues.

THE FIX!

reset all settings

SETTINGS > GENERAL > RESET > RESET ALL SETTINGS

That wont work for all....i did that on the first day and didn't do anything for me. In my case, the Restore fixed it, but for others even that has failed
