That's not so good then. I assume you've managed to restore the phone back to 1.1.3 then?

What if you activate the restored handset in iTunes prior to running ZiPhone?

that is what i did its better that way but read what i said below

Finally got it to work

Ok, I was having the same youtube problems, and the patches from installer.app were NOT working. Here's what I finally did to get it all working:

1) Clean install of 1.1.3 from iTunes
2) Before the iPhone rebooted and tried to activate, I force shut it down
3) Quit iTunes
4) Put iPhone into recovery mode
5) Use ZiPhone or iJailbreak to jailbreak the phone
6) Phone will reboot and won't activate (it thinks it already has)
7) Use the newest iNdependence to deactivate the phone
8) Phone reboots and tries to activate
9) Everything works including youtube

I think the problem with "cannot connect to youtube" is all about activation codes, and each previous attempt had me activate before the jailbreak.

Good luck....

I solved the YouTube problem as follows:

[1] Restored my phone to 1.1.3
[2] Used the new GUI ZiPhone.app (for OSX)

Presto -- everything is working now (except some of my favorite 3rd party apps like Customize and TaskBar notifier...)

I'm content now to wait for the post-SDK applications. No more futzing around with my phone....

Was your iPhone 1.1.3 out of the box? Mine is and I think that is the reason YouTube won't work for me. I have another iPhone that I upgraded from 1.1.2. to 1.1.3 and YouTube works on that one after Ziphone.

Still no Youtube

Did the same thing.

Restored to 1.1.3 to get back to factory settings.
Checked to make sure Youtube worked before jailbreaking
Jailbroke with the new GUI that updated today and now no Youtube.

I haven't reinstalled the apps yet (they worked before) but would like to fix this before doing it all over again.

Any ideas? Seems the only part that's broken except for Summerboard and customize.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Yeah -- my phone was 1.1.2 OTB, so maybe that's the issue...

Yeah that's what I have been suspecting all along. I have one more iPhone that still has 1.1.2 on. I have been wanting to upgrade it to 1.1.3 but this phone is the only one that still pairs up with my Garmin Nuvi 680 GPS because of it's firmware, so I'm holding off on the upgrade.

I'm willing to keep experimenting with my 1.1.3 OTB to see if I can get Youtube to work, I'll try any ideas that I can find.

I solved my YouTube problem by restoring, unplugging the iPhone as soon as the restore finishes. I closed iTunes then as well. I then ran Ziphone 2.1. I had to reboot the iPhone because it was showing no service. I then restored my iPhone from my backup and Youtube now works.

Yes this is simply a problem with the activation, something isn't communicating and activating Youtube during all of this but it can work and I got it to work.

As an update to my previous post:

I did get Youtube working. I then tried to restore my iPhone from a previous backup and after the phone rebooted, it is stuck on the apple logo with the little swirling circle icon on top of that. It also vibrates twice every few seconds. Guess I'll try it all over again. What a mess just to try to use another iPhones sim (1.1.2) in this phone (1.1.3).

I have a 1.1.2-OTB upgraded to 1.1.3 phone. I used ijailbreak which is based on ZiPhone and all seems to work except a slightly annoying problem.

YouTube always gives an error "cannot connect to Youtube" and then it connects and plays movies. But, every time I go into it or back to the menu, I get the can't connect. It's annoying, but youtube at least does work.

Is that what you are seeing or is youtube not working at all for you?

I got it to finally work just now. I restored the iPhone to 1.1.3. Just as the iPhone is rebooting after the restore, unplug it from the computer and close iTunes so that it doesn't have a chance to activate. Now start up Ziphone and let it do it's thing. When it's done, try YouTube. I got an error only the first time that it couldn't connect but after that it works fine.

I then restored from my previous backup but the restore for some reason will not restore my custom webclips this way. It will restore them if I don't have a hacked iPhone. I've tried.

I'v got this working with v2.1 by performing a full unlock, activation and jailbreak. Everything is working inc Youtube with the exception of Visual Voicemail which is only offering me the standard voicemail method.

Modem firmware 04.02.13_G

I finally gave up and restored my iPhone to stock 1.1.3. This last time I thought I had it all working. I tried to add new webclip icons and the whole iPhone would freeze up. It's not worth all the effort anymore.

I decided to restore to 1.1.3 and this time use only the Jailbreak option. Everything works as it should until I restore a backup and then Youtube etc fail. I decided to reset all settings from the General menu and restart the phone manually after it reboots itself. All is working now perfectly after a couple of power cycles.

So, I finally had success on all three of my 1.1.3 iPhones using Ziphone.

I used jailbreak and unlock. I didn't activate because well, my iPhones are already activated. I started with a fresh restore on each, ran Ziphone. I then made sure Youtube was working on each and it was, I then restored my backup on each phone. All works and I can use my GoPhones sim in any of my phones as well as swap the sims between all the phones and they all work.

That's all I was trying to do, I was just telling Ziphone to activate when I didn't need to, as I said the phones were already activated.

Hope this helps some people.

All I needed to do was unplug immediately after the restore, before my iPhone activated and then run only Jailbreak. Once completed I reconnected the iPhone to the Mac, ran iTunes and allowed the phone to activate onto o2 and everything worked. It seems that unplugging immediately after the restore was complete was the deciding factor in getting this to work for me.

my youtube works, but I used ziphone 1.0 to jailbreak my iphone only.

After a fresh restore from itunes to 1.1.3, I let itunes activate it legitimately and did not restore from a backup (setup as a new phone).

The I used ziphone 1.0 just to jailbreak the iphone to get installer.app onto it and used that to download apps, etc.

I think youtube doesn't work because ziphone activation is still slightly buggy, thats my guess anyway.

And re. some apps, themes not working etc, I think that is because they have not been updated for 1.1.3. Apple changed the way apps run now, as the /mobile user rather than /root (in 1.1.2 and below). Downloads from installer.app that haven't been updated for 1.1.3 will still goto /root and thus they wont appear or work yet.

Install Navizon and run it once, then remove it if you like. Map locator will now work.

Sweetness!!! Everything works now. Thanks!!!

I just have to decide if I want to get a new iPhone now so I can give this one to my wife (she's on t-mobile) or wait for the 3G version.

I just sacrificed my last 1.1.2 iPhone by upgrading to 1.1.3 and trying this. YouTube not working on this iPhone either.

same here...... updated to 1.1.3 form jailbroken 1.1.2 and used the ijailbreak mac method... youtube doesn't work. damn.
