Unless the movie is really small, YouTube becomes unusable for me.

I tried watching a review on a phone and it was 10 minutes long. The movie took like 5 minutes to buffer 30 seconds. I don't even think it was buffering the HD version.

Regardless, on my laptop, everything loads fine even in HD.

I guess all I can do is trade it out, but maybe there are other suggestions?

I noticed this last night. A 2 minute video stalled and I eventually opted not to use it. The first few days it was fine so I'm unsure.

I too have had the same problem. Although it doesn't happen on certain videos. I tried watching a 5 min. review and it crawled, stopped several times and in all took about 8 mins. to view.

However I watched some content I posted up (3-5 min range), and none of it stops to cache. My videos were posted up in HD, but I'm not playing them back in HD.

To sum up, I am dissapointed in youtube app performance as well.

I just tested it again today.

With the same video -

1. Laptop ran HD version flawlessly.
2. iPad stops after 10 seconds to buffer and takes forever to even buffer into a minute.

For me, its not just the app... its in Safari, too (YouTube.com/other websites that display YouTube videos)

It's really not just with this video though... its any large movie.

It's a Google phone from Verizon.....of course you can't watch it via the iPad :D

So I'm on a 16GB iPad using my Comcast 12/2 cable connection. Everything worked fine for me. It continuously had a buffer in front of live and I was able to view the whole video start to finish without any buffering.

PS. I see HTC has a very Apple-like Expose feature.......no wonder Apple is targeting them

Well I'm using a standard WRT54G, with a 6mb connection.

It could be router issues for me, IDK.

Still unacceptable...Not sure what to do.

I just clicked that link from my iPad and it started right away and 2.5 minutes into it I'm watching it fine. I don't know what the issue was with the last video yesterday but maybe it's a touch and go issue. Today I'm consuming more bandwidth in my house as I'm working and listening to streaming music. The video i had issues with yesterday is still in fact stalling out. It's called Tonto vs Tail (probably not worth watching anyway).

Works perfectly well for me. Try speedtest application to see if it is a network bandwidth issue.

It's weird. I have a similar issue with youtube on my iphone. Some vids will start immediately and buffer fine, others stall 10 sec in and take forever. Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

You could try rebooting your router and cable modem or both. You can try a different router, sure it's not as simple as buying a new router but if I'm running Apple I prefer to use an Apple router for the software configuration and compatibility.

It's hit and miss. Sometimes it works great, other times it's terrible.

And it's not a local network problem. The same videos work great on my other computers on the same network.

There are a bunch of similar threads from the past few weeks. Lot's of people are seeing this same problem.

I've noticed this type of behavior with my computer. I'll watch 5 or 6 youtubes in a row, then the 7th will be very very slow. Other videos load fine but certain videos are so slow. My only theory is that youtube has a few videos on a slower server, but most videos seem okay.

Speed of your wireless router and ISP (what you pay for) has a lot to do with the performance of YouTube and other video streaming sites.

I'm having the same stalling and halting problem.

This problem is with the iPad or its software, and not with my connection to the network.

Obviously if my laptop is streaming them perfectly, then its not a router or bandwidth issue (using laptop wirelessly as well).

My speeds are fantastic, but the Youtube app still doesn't work that great for me all the time. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it buffers like crazy.

But I never have any problems with Youtube on my other computers on my wireless network, only on my iPad, which tells me that it's NOT a problem with my connection.

Others have reported the same thing in other threads......

Exactly.

those are great speedtest results, and the fact that a laptop is doing the same video without issues makes a point that it may be how the ipad handles video.

There are people that have this issue, and people that don't. The only aspect in this situation that changes is the type of router a person is using, and their connection speeds.

Get a new router such as an Airport Extreme, or wait for the iPad firmware update.

$179 for a router? What does it do that a normal one don't?
