Here's another one that seems to challenge the Slim Book (though without back protection):

Anyone familiar with this one?

I've seen this one online and I think it looks nice. The only thing I'm not fond of it the hinge clip mechanism sticking up so far.

I managed to get a hold of the Ultimate Pro and I must say, it's a pretty solid keyboard case. I've got a review of this available:

I also went the extra mile and did a comparison between this Belkin and the ZAGG Slim Book:

Enjoy :)

So Joe, considering all the negatives with the Slim Book in terms of quality issues, who would say are the best contenders when having mechanism and flexibility in mind?

Well, that's a tough one. The Belkin wins for build quality, but I'd say the Slim Book wins in terms of versatility/flexibility. The Belkin has portrait mode, where the ZAGG does not. The ZAGG has a better multi-viewing angle, where the Belkin only has 2 viewing angles. The Belkin back cover is solid and very secure, where the ZAGG back cover is not. They both look great, although I like the looks of the ZAGG better.

If the ZAGG did not have the the back cover slipping off issue, wobble in the hinge and keys sometimes skipping beats, the ZAGG would have been a much better choice, but poor quality sets it apart, which means Belkin wins overall.

I think there might be some like myself that have preference over the ZAGG for specific reasons (features and flexibility). The ZAGG just seems to fit my workflow better than the Belkin. That's what makes it such a tough choice. Hope this helps.

Good summation. I will add that I've had repeated problems with the Belkin inserting multiple keystrokes when I am streaming music over BT to my Bose SLIII, so the Belkin is not flawless either. My Zagg keyboard for the iPad Retina (aka iPad 3) occasionally missed keystrokes, but never added any.

Slim Book Mod

I decided to make a quick and easy mod to the Slim Book that reduces the wobble effect, and also makes the iPad more snugly fit in the back cover. Check out how I did this in my video:

Let me know what you think.

Got it today. It seems to me that the cover fits alright on the long sides of the iPad, but I figured it was OK to strengthen it up and make it tighter with tape anyways. Mine however suffers from not fitting too snuggly on the right and left short sides, am I the only one who experience this?

I have the same problem as well where the corners do not sit flush in the back cover. I can clearly press down on the corners and they do go down but do not stay down.

Something worthy of mentioning here…I found this on Amazon from someone's negative review of the product where ZAGG responded:

The manufacturer commented on this review(What's this?)

Dear John,

Thank you so much for your feedback and for letting us know about this. We are very sorry for the experience you have had with the Slim Book. Thanks to prompt feedback such as yours, we were quickly made aware of the issues and were able to identify the bad batch from the manufacturer and have removed all remaining affected Slim Books from the marketplace. We have made all efforts to correct the outstanding issues, including the hinge, and are happy to report they have all been rectified. We would like to send you a free Slim Book to try again, one that meets our standards. Please contact me directly at customerreviews@zagg.com to do so. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding. We hope you will give the Slim Book a second chance.

By this it seems to me they are now finally aware of the issues and will correct them with replacements. The last replacement I did with them was before they were aware of the issues, which means they sent me the same product with the flaws. Hopefully when I request my new replacement, I'll receive the corrected version. I'll keep you all posted on this.

Wow, very nice Joe!

I have sent an email to CEO@zagg.com requesting a new back cover first and foremost, I'll let you know how they respond. It seems to me my hinge is operating ok (I mean it is stiff, but that's normal right?, what do I need to look out for here Joe (in case I might as well ask for a completely new case)?

They should send you a complete unit. Also when you go to ship the old one back, contact their support and ask for a prepaid shipping label (they will provide one if you ask). When the new one arrives, I'd inspect and compare to the old one. When I receieved my last replcement back in early Jan (I think), it was an identical model with the same issues.

The hinge seemed fine to me on all 3 Slim Books I've tried. It was the back cover not fitting correctly. I'm hoping they send me the corrected version they talked about in that Amazon thread. Fingers crossed .

Well...Received my replacement and it does still have the same issues as before. This cover seems a little more snug than the last one (but still comes off when opening the case), and there is still a wobble (not as bad as before). I'm thinking once I perform my mod once more, it will solidify the iPad much better.

I'm having them send me just the cover as I am in Norway and they needed the whole thing returned at my expense to ship a full replacement. So far my keyboard works great though. I'm using your mod and actually the iPad has not come out at the case at all, even when not completely surrounding the iPad.

Cool, I'm glad someone was able to get some use out of the mod besides me :)

For those interested. I managed to get my hands on a ClamCase Pro and did a video review of it here:

Wonder what the deal is with the rugged book, went from coming soon to out of stock and Zagg won't answer when this is coming out.

ipad air 2 is going to be old news when they get this out.

Might be going clamcase again.

Good question. They show it on their site but I've not seen the physical product anywhere. I've seen the version for the first iPad Air, and I can't imagine it being much different but we know the Air 2 is thinner, which means the back cover should be slightly thinner as well (in theory).

Anyone else sitting patiently on the sidelines waiting for a better Zagg Slim or Rugged offering and/or prices to come down on Belkin Qode Pro?

The Air 2 has been out long enough for folks to get their acts together.

I managed to get a hold of the Rugged Book. I'll be posting my review soon.

How/where?

Does it have a dedicated keyboard row for iOS controls, e.g. Play/Pause, FF, RWD, etc?

Is the keyboard backlit?

How long from the last key press until it enters sleep mode?

Do you have a BlueTooth Speaker you can use simultaneously with it, to see if it causes multiple letters for each keystroke when using both devices?

These are all issues for me with the Belkin Quode "Ultimate", and I'm looking to replace it.

Yes, has dedicated function keys (with Play, rewind, etc). Keys are backlit. I'll have to test out the simultaneous bluetooth connections but this has worked fine for me in the past. I'll let you know how that goes.

Thanks Joe!

Looks like a robust version of the Slim.

That AMZN links takes you to the Air version and Zagg shows them out of stock.
