I'm on a Mac. If I Boot Camp into Windows and do this, I'll need to reformat my iPhone, won't I? If this is the case, when I reformat back for use in OS X, will I lose any of this?

No reformatting will take place. If you have iTunes installed in windows it will just recognise the phone and show it in exactly the same way as itunes in OSX. Obviously do not sync it in windows otherwise you will loose its content.

Oh, I don't have to worry about lost content. It doesn't have any. It doesn't even have firmware. iJailbreak says that there is none present. iNdependence says that it can't register the callbacks. I just hope that something can help me at this point.

I assume you are going to try to restore it (if you can get it recognised by itunes) and then ZiPhone it. Good Luck!

Oh, I've tried. I've tried restoring. I've tried 1.0.2, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and a straight restore to 1.1.3 on iTunes 7.5 and 7.6. It just isn't panning out. In addition, I don't believe that it can go into DFU mode anymore, either. DFU requires you to let go of power once the screen goes black, yes? Not when the Apple logo pops back up? If the answer is the former, iTunes won't recognize it regardless of how long I cramp my arm holding the Home button.

I suppose ZiPhone is my last hope. Either that, or I'll take it to an AT&T store and have them give me a new one. (One year hardware warranty, right?)

Oh dear, its does not sound good. The first thing that ZiPhone does is put the phone in recovery mode. If you dont have any working firmware in the phone I dont see how its going to work. Give it a try, what have you got to loose. You never know it may put it into a mode where you can restore it in itunes. If that does not work make use of the warranty.

My iPhone is stuck on the apple logo after trying to run this version of Ziphone. Any help with this?

Holding the home and sleep buttons just brings it to the apple logo again where it stays forever.

Oh, it should be okay. It's stuck IN Recovery Mode. As in, I turn it on and it goes to the "Please connect to iTunes" triangle. We'll see what happens. Thanks!

I assume that you have used (Windows) ibrickr (Mac)independence to get it out of recovery mode? If independence recognises it, it can also put it into DFU mode - apparently.....

How long is this thing supposed to be searching for iPhone? It's been at least 5 minutes now.

It should find it immediately then tell you to turn it off, disconnect it from the computer then hold down the home button (only) while reconnecting it to the computer. It should then continue with the process.

In addition, I don't believe that it can go into DFU mode anymore, either.
Just a useful tip, there's an old app called USB Monitor (PPC only, so needs Rosetta on Intel, freeware) and/or Peripheral Vision (PPC, Universal beta from plasq, shareware). Both of them can show you when a USB device connects or disconnects. In a situation like yours, this can be very useful as the popup will tell you if you are in normal mode ("iPhone"), recovery ("iPhone (Recovery mode)") or DFU ("DFU USB Device") as soon as you enter it, so no more wondering what state the iPhone is in.

BTW, the best way I've found to get to DFU is home+power for 10 seconds (count it out), then keep home down 10 seconds more alone. Bingo, the DFU popup appears onscreen on the mac :)

This isn't working for me. Message is this:

I can't seem to get ZiPhone to work if I only want to run -a and -j (activate and jailbreak). Anyone else experience the same thing? Also, anyone able to run Categories after using ZiPhone? Wanted to see if the 2 issues are related.

Thnx

Um... yeah... iNdependence says, "Error registering callbacks from iPhone" whatever that means, and shuts down immediately. In short, I haven't been able to get it out of Recovery Mode, but I'll try whatever I can now.

I have tried this version on a brand new 8 GB iPhone, I get:

.........and then nothing, the phone just sits there with an apple logo and I have to restore it. Ideas anyone? I thought this is supposed to work on even brand new iphones which i assume come with bootloader 4.6?

I have seen that error before. I found this on a website that appeared to work for some people.

go to System > Library > Private Frameworks and delete the folder "MobileDevice Frameworks"

empty trash.

then download and re-instal iTunes. Then try independence again.

Are you running the ZIphone os x gui that somebody wrote? If so, its better just to run the ziphone executable in terminal (not the exe).

I thought the whole point was that it was easy and didn't require terminal?
