Okay, so through some miracle (and Vista... ugh...) I got my iPhone off of 1.0.2 Restore Mode and into 1.1.1 Restore Mode. Still stuck. It wasn't, though, for a little bit... I should probably put it back into Windows and do ZiPhone again from there, as it almost-kind-of worked (I saw the Edge logo... and I don't have service!) Okay... I seem to have been able to get into DFU Mode. Restoring now... nothing. I'll go back to Vista and try again... :(

It has recently come to my attention that Windows Vista is a very laid-back operating system. I consider it to be thus, as, regardless of what the end-user is doing, Vista will allow it to happen without any complains. Here is my story...

Okay, as I said, I was freshly stuck in 1.1.1 Restore Mode. OS X wouldn't let me option-restore (Error 1603/4), so I came back to Vista. I shift-restored up to 1.1.3, not expecting it to work. IT DID. I'm about to unlock with ZiPhone. This is a Day One 4GB iPhone... and I think it might be hanging at the Apple logo. Suggestions?

It is easy plus you can see whats happening in terminal. The OSX gui was not written by the developer of ZiPhone so it may introduce bugs.

I still don't get what to do, even with the Ziphone terminal folder? Do you just click the terminal program? I'm pretty new to this.

For complete terminal newbies:
easiest way is to open Terminal.app. You then need to navigate to where you stored the folder. Type "cd " (theres a space there at the end) and before you hit return, go to your Ziphone folder and drag it into the terminal window. It will then fill in the path for you and say "cd /Users/youruser/Desktop/Ziphone" or something similar. Hit return and then you are in the right folder. Type "./ziphone -u -a -j -v" and hit return. This runs the app and unlocks, activates and jailbreaks. Skip the unlock (-u) if you don't want to run that part.

Okeedoke. I'm in 1.1.3, I believe, and ZiPhone doesn't do much. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough, but it's only ever hung at the Apple logo. Oh, and where's the SIM unlock option for Day One iPhones (3.9, I guess...)? Thanks, guys. Apple just makes it easier and easier. This shindig with AT&T won't last five years, I believe.

Oh, I've tried. I've tried restoring. I've tried 1.0.2, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and a straight restore to 1.1.3 on iTunes 7.5 and 7.6. It just isn't panning out. In addition, I don't believe that it can go into DFU mode anymore, either. DFU requires you to let go of power once the screen goes black, yes? Not when the Apple logo pops back up? If the answer is the former, iTunes won't recognize it regardless of how long I cramp my arm holding the Home button.

I suppose ZiPhone is my last hope. Either that, or I'll take it to an AT&T store and have them give me a new one. (One year hardware warranty, right?)

Restore it on a different computer. For some reason, that's what worked for me.

1 - Dock phone
2 - Press Power and Home Simultaneously, hold down
3 - When you hear the sound indicating your computer has found a new device, let go of the power button, keep home button down
4 - When you hear 2 more beeps, release the home button, the phone will be in restore mode
5 - Just restore

Don't ask why this works if you use it on another computer. If you use it on the computer you normally do all your iphone hacking on, you still get all kinds of errors and you won't be able to bring it back.

I've used this method this 3 times already. The last time when I couldn't restore my phone to "normal" after I found out a jailbroken and a unlocked phone won't work with the map locator. I got an error after trying to restore it. Then multiple attempts at restoring it again wouldn't work until I tried it on another PC.

I used ANYSIM 1.3 to unlock my 3.9 as ZiPhone did not have the option yesterday. Apparently ZiPhone 2.0 now has the option to unock 3.9 phones.

Wow, thanks for that! Heart stopping moments as it whizzed through, but it seems to have worked perfectly. As a bonus, Youtube is now working and it wasn't before.

Thanks for the help guys, it's pretty incredible how fluid the process is when you look back on it. :)

DON'T USE 2.0!!!! I've tested 2.0 and the original command line interface version. I got stuck with the Apple with 2.0 and with the command line interface I got a successful jailbreak and unlock in less than 3 mins for each process!!!

Everything works jailbroken. Map locator not working when unlocked.

Only thing that's messed up for me is number formats. i think I may have to "australianise" the phone again but not quite sure how to do that.

Hi, y iPhone was jailbreak 1.1.3 and unlocked using AnySims 1.3 with BL, 3.9, but the also with NO SERVICE or low signal, can i reunlock using ZiPhone 2.0 ?

1.0.2 (us) Otb -> 1.1.3 Unlocked

WOW.. i am majorly impressed..

i was actually so so nervous to update my phone to 1.1.3 but just reading all of these simple GUI's that do it all tempted me soo much..

So to convince anyone having doubts here was my situation:

1.0.2 OTB (US) iPhone
unlocked with anySim and updated to 1.1.1 also unlocked with anySim

have been using my 1.1.1 for about 6 months now and today all I did was:

download the 1.1.3 ipsw file and then (on a mac) alt click/upgrade in iTunes and choose the 1.13 ipsw file

iTunes updated phone.. I then rebooted phone at which point iTunes said that my sim was not a recognised one

I downloaded AriX's iJailbreak program (0.5.3) BUT for some reason as soon as I ran that, it failed with some silly error :((

PANIC time..

Then, I simply downloaded ziPhone 2.0 Mac OS X GUI and selected the jailbreak, verbose (which was already selected), activate boxes..

it worked it's magic and then it automatically rebooted my iPhone.. but I had no service..

ahh ok.. i forgot to unlock it!

re-ran ziPhone 2.0 using same options as above but this time also selecting the Unlock box (yes, it does work on BL3.9 iPhones now)

it again worked it's magic and voila.. all done!!!

i am mightily impressed!!

all my settings remain, youtube works wifi etc.. all working

happy bunny!!!

GO DO IT!!!

EDIT:
I was using iTunes 7.6
Mac OS X 10.5.2

Google Locate also works

Sorry to hear about your problem. Have you tried it with a different SIM, just to see if the same problem persists?

I think that you can downgrade to 1.1.1 (and downgrade the baseband too) but I have not seen any evidence that it works. Check out this website for information : http://www.iunlock.no/. See the FAQ on "How do i downgrade a 1.1.3 phone?". Its a good job you have a 3.9BL!

Tks for adv.

Looking at restore to 1.1.3, and use Ziphone 2.0 go thru the jailbreak and unlock.

What u think ?

This is just a personal thing but I felt more comfortable doing it in XP. i.e Installing iTunes 7.5 (not 7.6), restoring the iphone and then running ZiPhone from the DOS CMD prompt.

Some people seem to be having a few problems with the Mac version of ZiPhone.

Got it to work in the end, i used the terminal instead making sure i used the -v option as well. It's now unlocked and working! also i thought i had version 1.13 firmware but it is actually 1.12. must be an older (but brand new) iphone.

anyway i'm very happy!:D

So the big question is...Are you going to upgrade to 1.1.3? :p

what's the point of downgrading BL 4.6 to 3.9?

heck, maybe sort of noob question here, 4.6 was already being breached,so under what circumstances we want to downgrade it? and yeah, that Ziphone tool is freaking damn easy to use.

I'm on a Mac. If I Boot Camp into Windows and do this, I'll need to reformat my iPhone, won't I? If this is the case, when I reformat back for use in OS X, will I lose any of this?

a windows formatted ipod, iphone whatever will work under os x no problem anyway

I have a bootloader 3.9 iPhone, and I do NOT want to unlock it.
All I want to do is get it to be jailbroken and make calls on my existing AT&T non-iPhone SIM.

Last time I tried, someone just said "Unlock" and then I had to restore the baseband and modem firmware since I got the Incorrect SIM error. Again, I have 3.9 and currently 04.02.13_G on 1.1.2. My SIM is AT&T, but NOT iPhone activated.

Oh boy, thanks to various guides I took the plunge and started using SSH, BSD etc and have customized the numbers, installed NES games etc. Never really bothered with it before but it's awesome. Again, with all the guides and knowledge around, looking back on it it's pretty smooth sailing (so far!).
