Hey everon,
I am trying to pick between ziphone and iliberty. I have successfully jailbreaked and activated my iphone through iliberty. I want to unlock it and setup the installer but it reccomends that i downgrade my bootloader to 3.9FB, which i heard is somewhat dangerous because you can't resore back.
Ziphone just says do-it-all, which includes activation jailbreak and unlock, but i already jailbreaked and activated. Can i do it again?

Should i just not downgrade my bootloader in iLiberty?

Thank you,
Tom

With iLiberty+ you can upgrade your BL again to 4.6, with ZiPhone you CANNOT!

I just used the new iLiberty+ today downgrading to 3.9FB and it worked well, with the added security that if I want to upgrade the BL again I can.

There is no real reason to use ZiPhone anymore.

Don't use ZiPhone

I hope you didn't used ziphone.
iLiberty dowgrades your BL to 3.9FB wich is REVERSIBLE ZiPhone will dowgrade it to the regular 3.9 BL and this is final!!!!
Lots, and lots of people losing wifi/edge/BT using Ziphone
Note that YOU CAN NOT UNLOCK A 4.6 BL OOB(1.1.2 OR NEWER) WITHOUT DOWGRADING THE BL.
Hope this helps

The only thing wrong about your assessment. You can unlock a 4.6BL just not with the latest base band.

But again, as you said, everyone use iLiberty+ because Ziphone will downgrade your BL permanently!

When ziphone downgrades the bootloader, is this irreparable even with a restore?

Thanks for all the great input.

The latest iLiberty is still buggy if you're using windows. I tried it and got the spinning wheel of death. There are quite a few reports of folks having the same problem on ModMyPhone forum.
Restored as a new phone via ITunes and used ziphone to JB and had no problems. YouTube, wifi and maps all working as designed.

ok i used zipphone and everything is working find. if i restore my phone would i be able to go back to 4.6 BL

where cn i find iliberty?

You can't restore your bl to 4.6 if you used ZIphone as yet, but as I said before, its the stable'ist program I've used, and if you've got some sort of insurance you're sorted to use ZIphone

I will never use another program as long as ZIphone exists.

IMO THOUGH.

Ive heard nothing but good about ZIphone so...

This post has pwnd it for me. ZIphone it is, about time my household insurance got used!!!.

i just want to make sure im understanding u guys,
i want to restore my phone now and use iliberty+. Can i ??

There is no reason to restore and use iLiberty+ if ZiPhone worked and you are unlocked and jailbreaked (with installer on your iPhone screen).

If you try and unlock it twice it may break your phone - not to mention it is not neccessary!

ZiPhone downgraded your bootloader and there is NO WAY to go back to the original bootloader.

You have voided your warranty permanently.

However your phone should now always be unlockable so its not all bad!

There is so much misconception and FUD in this thread it is insane.

ZiPhone's boot loader downgrade is permanent. iLiberty+ works flawless and is reversible. Unlocking twice doesn't break anything. ZiPhone has created a lot of problems for people (not for me though).
Just use iLiberty+ and be safe. If not, please don't come back in the future and complain. ;)

I used iLiberty and it worked beautifully. Everything works and the installer is really sweet. I'm waiting for my T-Mobile SIM to try and sign up for T-Zones.

But what are we going to do when 2.0 comes out? Should we all not upgrade until there is a work around discovered?

People,
here what i could find:
1)ZiPhone achieved what everyone thought was impossible, it BRICKED FOREVER many, many phones, there are reports of phones so bricked what not even the hardware thing works... they got the "calibration error"stuff. So i STRONGLY suggest you do not use it.
2)Someone told me i was wrong about the dowgrading.. and he is right, sorry about that, you can unluck without dowgrading using iNdependence, it will not dowgrade your BL but it will not install the installer and the "locate me" feature will not work
3)regarding iLiberty the spinning wheel IS reversible
BTW all the problems are happening only with iLiberty+(windows version). iLibertyx (mac version) works like a charm, so my best advice for our windows friends is GET A MAC.
4)If your want 100% safe use iplus 2.0b it's command line but it is very, very easy to use
5)Zibri deletes ALL bad post about ziphone so if you want to know whats happening try OTHER FORUNS
6) A new version of ziphone is being promissed that will have "no more grayed wifi", how this matches the "no iphone was ever damage by ziphone"statement i really want know.
As someone said earlier... if you use ziphone and get the "calibration error"of death DON'T COME BACK ASKING FOR HELP. Maybe you can ask zibri... eh eh eh
best regards for you all

has anyone actually used the iliberty method? if yes can you give tell me how it worked out for you

I used Ziphone the first time v2.6 on iMac 10.4.10 and it worked fine. No problem with wi-fi once I entered the MAC correctly in my router. I then wanted to install an app that called for 1.1.3 (1.1.2 came with my 8GB refurb) so with the suggestion of one of the members here, redid it with iLiberty. Both worked fine but of course it downgraded but I am on T-Mobile and don't have ATT so the warranty thing is not an issue for me. :D

since i'm new to iphone i have a question for you. if i use unlock (on iliberty) on a 1.1.4 otb iphone do i have to select downgrade bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9FB?
another question is what do you need payload for?
and do i have to install the bsd subsytem and open ssh programs in order for it to work?

if something went wrong could you still install the payloads separately even after doing a first run?

I have a couple of questions, I received my refurbished iPhone last monday, it was a week 30 phone, it had 3.9 bootloader, so I used ZiPhone to unlock. It worked perfectly, I have had no wi-fi problems (other than have to reset my stupid linksys router) so because it didn't happen immediately I don't have to worry about that going wrong do I?

But my real questions are about unlocking some new phones. Now that I have an unlocked phone my coworker wants a couple as well. So he wants me to unlock them for him. He will be buying brand new phones, so they will have the 4.6 bootloader, I obviously do not want to mess up his phones, but I am a little scared to use iLiberty+ because I don't have any experience with it.

I am not sure what iLiberty+ automatically installs on the phone. I just want to have exactly what I had on my phone after using ZiPhone

What problems do I have to worry about using iLiberty?

Do I do the same steps as I did with ZiPhone? (i.e. restore phone, click all the boxes, push go for it)

I might be doing this for him on monday, so I really want to be sure of what I am doing.

Also my other coworker wants to just have his Jailbroken (he has an AT&T account) should I just use ZiPhone for that because I don't have to deal with bootloader when jailbraking.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What do you guys recommend for a regular old Jailbreak of a 1.1.4 16GB iPod Touch?

iJailbreak, Ziphone, or iLiberty?

Right now iLiberty, but that's just from own experience.

AFAIK you can but most things you can install via the installer so, I wouldn't worry about it.

McGiord is probably onto something with the soon to be released Pwnage Tool. It is suppose to be out tomorrow.

Check out the post about it and watch the video. Pretty impressive I think. I have unlocked my 8GB refurb twice, once with Ziphone and once with iLiberty but I am still just a noob but watch the video and watch the forums for actual real live people doing it and reporting. :D

Zibri worked flawlessly for me.

Go Here to read up on some relevant info on what is what.

No hating please. By the time you get get on your soapbox to spew new firmware or even phones might be out... and lastly if you dont have verified proof of thousads and millions of bricked phones, relax, your stressing me out.

I have helped 3 friends and myself with the Zibri stuff and worked well.

I will say the new Pwned stuff looks really good for 1.2(beta)/2.0
