I think that's a pretty awesome and very contemporary design. I have to say that good design, especially in which you interact with or see every day, is worth spending money on.

Agreed! Assuming Apple keeps this charging mechanism the same for at least a couple versions, I plan to have this stand for over 5 years. To me, spending a bit extra on fantastic design is totally worth it. I emailed them asking if the aluminum would scratch my space black stainless steel, eagerly awaiting an answer!

I received my Apple Watch yesterday and have the Wave in gray on order. Sure, it's a little more expensive but I paid as much for my new Apple watch as I did for my Rolex in 1976! It's a stylish reminder to charge my watch every day as it definitely needs it.

I don't want to clasp/unclasp my link bracelet every evening/morning when I dock and undock, and I'm worried about it scratching up against the aluminum base. I don't want to pay a lot for something to scratch my bracelet. Do you think this is a valid concern?

Wow! MSRP is $180 US. Yikes! (good think it's on sale right now).

What's it made of? One thing I like about the Spigen as opposed to the Nomad is that the Spigen has a rubber mounting pod for your charging disc. No metal comes in contact with your watch (I've ordered the SB SS w LB). I don't want my watch band scraping on metal every time I cradle it.

Heh...I'm painting my Spigen (in the process now). To caligurl's comment...it adds up quick (in Canadian $)

The spray rubber is for the white charging cable...make it more stealthy.

"Your question is a valid concern with the recent reports of scratching found on Apple’s 316L stainless steel cases. During initial design, our engineers took the material hardness into account between the two adjacent materials, 316L stainless steel and anodized 6061-T6 aluminum. We’ve also taken additional measures with in-house testing of 316L stainless steel against anodized aluminum and found there was no scratching. With normal intended use, this won’t be a concern."

Does that sound reassuring enough?

Not for me, nope. It's metal. Repeated brushings against it will eventually cause scuffing.

I kinda agree with you there. I posted this in another thread and was wondering, do you think coating it with this will make it 100% scratch proof?

I'll likely kick off a new thread for all of the pics and feedback on the process (painting my Spigen stand, making the cable black and putting double-sided tape on the bottom (carpet tape) to keep it from moving about on the bedside table)

Going to wait until it's done, so I can kick off the thread with the "After" picture. (pain in the a__, as each coat of paint takes 24hrs).

Oh...and I may end up spraying the spray rubber on the bottom of the stand - someone was mentioning that their link bracelet scrapes the bottom of the spigen stand when they cradle it. I asked them to confirm if they were closing the band first or not. If that's going to be a problem, I'll put a layer of rubber on the stand base to ensure it doesn't scrape my link bracelet.

Granted, I have the leather band and not the link so clasping isn't the issue for me (although I'm sure I'll prefer the aesthetics of it clasped on the stand). I had a similar concern of the buckle against the aluminum and received a similar response that they did repeated metal-on-metal scratch testing.
Bottom line, I liked the way this one looked and how it would fit the look in my bedroom and not stick out when not in use.

When open, only the portion of the clasp that's hidden when latched touches the metal base of my Spigen watch stand. With one side is latched, it doesn't touch at all.

For me, it's a total non-issue.

So I decided to purchase this stand and I have to say that I am overwhelmed by the quality and aesthetics. I would highly recommend this stand to anyone that prioritizes appearance alongside function. I know the price is a bit spendy, but it's totally worth it considering I will be using it and looking at it on a daily basis. Here are some pics!

Looks nice. Too bad it is all metal. Has no protection from scratching watch or metal band. Also doesn't have night stand mode. It is pretty though, like a piece of art.

Actually it used to be completely metal which I why I held off on buying. Then I emailed them about the issue and they added a urethane coating as a barrier to completely resist scratching. I can tell you personally that when feeling it, the coating makes me 100% positive my watch won't scratch.

Are you saying they added the coating specifically to YOUR stand, or to all of them as part of a change in the manufacturing process?
