I have:
2010 Mac Pro
12-Core
2x 2.93ghz Westmere
I’m not sure what backplane I need - and I can’t figure out how to take the current one out in order to verify it (yet)
What model number do I need?
661-5706?
820-2337-A?
Again:
2010 Mac Pro

Hello. I have just come in possession of two Macs and don't know which is best for my needs. I'll be selling the computer I don't keep and trying to get the most money in the end is desirable but it's vital that I pick the right one performance wise also.
The computers are:
1. Mac Pro 3,1...
I knew this day would come eventually, but I was hoping Apple would come out with their updated Mac Pro so I had another option.
TurboTax informed me that I should upgrade to at least High Sierra. 2018 requires at least 10.12. Been considering a few options going forward:
1. use the macOS...
Hey,
So, I'm thinking of investing in a 3, 1 Mac Pro, with a Radeon 2600 XT. It has 256MB of GDDR4 VRAM, and I was wondering if it would run on Yosemite or El Capitan. I'll definitely upgrade the Graphics Card to something better down the line, like a Quadro 4000, as I'm into video/ graphical...
2010 Mac Pro 5,1 2x 2.93ghz Westmere
20gb RAM
OWC 256gb SSD
ATI Radeon 5780
The last time this system booted (at all) was just before I took out the GPU to try in another Mac Pro.
Once I reinstalled the GPU:
- system starts up
- front power button light illuminates
- all fans run
- gpu...
Hey,
I'm investing in a Mac Pro, and I am needing a definitive answer. Do I need to flash Mac Specific Firmware to have the machine boot into MacOS with a 4870 or 5770?
Thanks!
First post in the forums here but have been reading for a long time.
I’m looking to invest in a new desktop setup for professional use. I’ll be running Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and InDesign regularly. I upload and edit large files for my work. I also trade stocks...
As of recent I have acquired a Mac Pro 2, 1. It can currently run all the way up to OS X 10.11 El Capitan, which is still a good OS, but isn't supported by Apple. Is there any possible way to get a Firmware Upgrade from 2, 1 to the 3, 1? There is fundamentally no difference between the two, as...
Is it possible to connect a Dual link DVI output on an Early 2008 Mac Pro to the USB-C input on the newer monitors like this: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HKMY2VC/A/lg-ultrafine-4k-display using an adapter? I've been trying to find an adapter but they all seem to go the other way around...
Hey,
I'm considering investing in a 2007 Octa Core Mac Pro, but it doesn't include a Video Card. I've been thinking about the 6770, as it has 1GB of VRAM, and is still somewhat capable in 2019. The one I have my eye on is an Apple one, and comes with the cables, but I'm not sure if it would run...
Hi All,
I've got a pretty heavily modified Mac Pro 2009 (flashed to 5,1) with upgraded processors, RAM, video card, USB 3, SSD, the whole 9 yards. Since upgrading, I’ve been getting near constant kernel panics. It used to be when I was in Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, things like that...
Hi,
I'm experimenting with de-lidding a pair of (5677) processors for a Mac Pro I have. I decided to experiment with the "vice method" on an old processor I had left over from another upgrade.
The de lidding with the vice went really smoothly....the top seemed to slide over a bit at first and...
Hey everyone, first post here.
I recently acquired a 2009 Mac Pro (4,1 flashed to 5,1) successfully updated to High Sierra. I had an ASUS Dual OC RX 480 lying around and am having some trouble getting it running properly.
As far as I've researched, High Sierra is supposed to have built-in...
I can confirm the 8 core Xeon E5-2667 V2 (not provided by Apple) is the best CPU for Mac Pro 6.1.
- Both single-core and multi-core performance is better than in the 12 cores CPU provided by Apple:
4135/27254 vs 3369/27076.
- compared to the new iMac Pro with 8 cores, single-core and...
Hello Mac Rumors, I've been lurking these forums for a while ever since I have started building my Mac Pro almost a year ago. I have never needed to post a question that hasn't been asked before but I think it is time.
I use a 4k monitor when I play video games on my Windows 10 partition and my...
Mac Pro 5,1
I installed Mojave on my Mac Pro, it runs fine for a few hours and sometimes longer then bam! It just becomes unresponsive, everything takes ages to do anything. eg: You a right click then 15+ seconds later the menu shows, move a window same things, has anyone else had this issue...
Hey everyone,
I just picked up a BCM943602CS Wireless card (PCI-e) for my 2009 Mac Pro that I updated to a 5.1.
The card is advertised as Mac compatible and many people use it in the Hackintosh builds, but for some reason I can not get my Mac to recognize it. My OS is Mojave.
Has anyone had any...
Ihave a Mac Pro 5.1, 12-core 3.46 Westmere. I just bought 128gb of 1333 ddr3 ram for it, but it shows as being 800mhz only. I contacted the seller of the ram. Read what he said below. Is this correct and is there a way I can bring it up to 1333mhz? I took out half and it still says 800. I took...
I’ve had an issue with my Mid-2010 Mac Pro (5.,1) for over a year now…the machine still runs fine when it is on, but has the issues with startup/sleep described below. I’ve spent many hours reading posts on the Apple Support community, Macrumors, and elsewhere. From what I have gathered, nobody...
The 2013 Mac Pro is still on the market, being sold by Apple. I know Apple has pretty much never dropped software updates for devices less than 3 from the time taken off the market (with the exception of Xserve G5) so it should get macOS updates until 2022.
Does this mean, in your opinion...
