This didn't work for me. After clicking "osx" the terminal says that the process failed. Hope someone can solve this fast.

This makes no sense. I upgraded to 1.1.2 with Okto Prep. I downloaded the rapidshare file with the jailbreak, but how the hell is it supposed to use SSH if my ipod isn't jailbroken? UGH. This is so annoying. I'm getting so sick of this crap. I've been trying to do this for the past 2 hours. I can downgrade to 1.1.1. and start over but I NEED HELP.

Stuck..

Does anyone have problem while uploading installer.app files?

I've got the java program to work and it's connected to ipod and all
but it's been showing "uploading installer.app files..." for about an hour
and nothings happening..

Is this normal? do i need to wait longer? or am I screwed?

Hint: USB cable + chill pill.

Guys - if you have problems running osx file on Mac or .bat file on a PC - then double click on "jailbrake.jar" :) - if you have problems with that go to www.java.com and download and install Java for your computer.

Windows users don't forget to close all running processes containing "ipod" or "itunes" in a name (Vista users - in Task Manager don't forget to click on "show processes of all users" or smth like that) BEFOUR running the jailbrake

I need help and guide.

I already upgraded my iPod Touch to v1.1.2 past few days.
I wonder if I wanna JailBreak it....

1) Must I downgrade to v1.1.1 ?
If yes.... where to get the file for Windows platform ?
If No... what is the next step ?

Thanks... I'm trying to figure out how, but kinda confused.
Someone pls enlighten me.

Yes, you do have to downgrade to 1.1.1 if you haven't had 1.1.1 version jailbraked and installed OktoPrep before upgrading to 1.1.2

After downgrading (as far as i am converned it is possible through iTunes) you have to jailbrake your 1.1.1 and install OktoPrep through Installer.app and then follow instructions from the post#1 of this thread and from the post #30 if you have troubles running jailbrake

Mine is still failing. Jailbreak.jar gets stuck on "Reading flash image...". I left it running for over 8 hrs but nothing so I cancelled it. I may just go back to 1.1.1, jailbreak it and leave it at that.

I'm on a Power PC G4 MDD.

You should try on a different machine 'cause it only takes 5-7 minutes to complete. By the way I heard many complaints from people with PPC based macs. Try searching youtube for ppc solution and share your experience with us here.

I'm also experiencing this problem. Is there a way to fix this?

Don't want to sound like a noob but how do you "opt-click" in windows? I googled it and it told me to Alt Click so I did... am I doing it wrong? I screwed up my iPod by downloading that keyboard thing from Installer, thought it was for Customize... I don't care which I have... 1.1.1 or 1.1.2, but I want it jailbroken... and I'm currently restoring to 1.1.2 because I couldn't do anything else -_- Any help would be greatly appreciated... I already have the 1.1.1 image

Just ctrol + click restore and then find the 1.1.1 image and restore to 1.1.1
then just go on jailbreakme.com on your iPod and install it.
then you will be jailbroken.

For the update to 1.1.2 just look at my first post.

phatboy, this isn't workking for me. I get all the way to teh part about "click teh windows.bat file" and when I do that, a DOS window pops up and then goes away. I can't follow instructions for that because I can't see them. How do you get that DOS window to stay open?

If I click the .jar file, it comes up with a click box window to install SSH and a "jailbreak" buton. If I click that, it pops up an error window saying it can't launch iphuc.

I feel "iphuc"ced right now. Any help would be great....

EDIT: nevermind, I figured it out. I didn't have all of the files extracted from the .zip. I'm good to go now.

process was a piece of cake here

restored 1.1.1 (I like to start fresh), jailbroke via jailbreakme.com, installed oktoprep, updated in itunes, used conceited software's jailbreak and just double clicked the .jar and let it do its magic

I'm doing the process again, but this time not having the jailbreak jar install SSH on the ipod because I'd rather use UICtl along with OpenSSH and the BSD utilities

one question though, as long as we have both 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 firmware files download, does it matter if we opt (or shift, for our windows buddies) Restore or Update?

both seem to work fine

yes i finally did it
i was stuk on the part where i had to clik window.bat but nothin happened
then i found out i had to press ctrl+alt +delete and end all the processes that had the word apple or ipod in it
then it worked
just some info to share for ppl who were like me

My Experience

Jailbreaking on iPod Touch or iTunes Activated iPhone
(first part is for the jailbreak, if you already have a 1.1.1 jailbroken ipod then skip to step 2)

1. Launch Safari
2. Visit http://jailbreakme.com, Scroll down to the bottom, click "Install AppSnapp".
Safari will exit and you'll return to your springboard. Slide to unlock, you are now jailbroken.
and are able to use Installer.app.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2: Prepare your 1.1.1 device for the Update

1. Launch Installer.app
2. Scroll down to Tweaks (1.1.1)
3. Select OktoPrep
4. Click Install

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3: Update to 1.1.2

1. Connect your device to your computer
2. Launch iTunes
3. Choose your device
4. Click Update
5. Wait forever for your device to update

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 4: Jailbreak your iPod Touch or iTunes activated iPhone

1. Close iTunes
2. Connect your device to your computer
3. On Windows, double click on windows.bat, on Mac, double click on osx
4. Follow the on screen instructions.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download:
http://rapidshare.com/files/69521527/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip

to get the iPhone apps on your newly jailbroken 1.1.2 just click on "sources in the installer app and then tap "edit" then "add" and type in repo.us.to so the whole address reads "http://repo.us.to". then add the source and let it refresh it.

Then the iPhone apps should show up in the installer menu. Then its as easy as installing any other app.

hope this helped.
luke.

I used your steps listed....1st time I got to step3 update failed, I went and redowngraded to 1.1.1 no biggie, jailbroke it again, preppred it, upgraded in itunes, then i installed java :) , ran the windows.bat it worked flawless...Very easy to do....Now just got to install some apps...:)

I appreciate your help!

and your not jailbroken already are you?

what version of the software are you running? jailbreakme.com wont work with the 1.1.2 software version. try downgrading to 1.1.1 (files can be found with the search function on the forum) and then visiting jailbreakme.com

hope that helps.

Here is a link for a step by step of installing iphone apps 1.1.1 & 1.1.2 directly from installer. Tried and works flawlessly! Before installing the actual Mail & Maps app be sure to download the mail and map PREP file first. There is a warning, "to only use if you have an iphone", but seems to be there as a way to save themselves from apple.
