Guys - if you have problems running osx file on Mac or .bat file on a PC - then double click on "jailbrake.jar" :) - if you have problems with that go to www.java.com and download and install Java for your computer.

Windows users don't forget to close all running processes containing "ipod" or "itunes" in a name (Vista users - in Task Manager don't forget to click on "show processes of all users" or smth like that) BEFOUR running the jailbrake

troubles re: step 4. okay, i tried both osx and the jar file. no luck. i'm running latest version of itunes on the latest version of 10.5. i downloaded the java file only to find (suspected as much) that it only runs on 10.4 so now what do i do? i've followed every step to the letter so far....

I'm having a hard time figuring out what you're downloading to your computer and what you're downloading on the iPodTouch.

Help sort this out for me, please.

lol. os x is the operating system.

jailbreaking is really really easy. all you have to do is follow the instructions!

Should be Sticky

Followed this and hacked my mom's touch with ease (I did mine months ago when it was much harder), good tutorial, this should probably be sticky

yeah could we get this stickied pretty please???

thanks :)

much love,
luke.

Thanks for this info, I'll try it. Is there any chance of bricking my iTouch?

well then.
tonight officially sucked.
at the start of the night i hade an awesome ipod which was jailbroken with all the iPhone apps and everything
i had customised the layout and everything.
then i tried to do the 1.1.2 jailbreak but it failed (got stuck)
didnt know why, nothing was working so i restored.
later found out it was because of the java being out of date!!!
so now i have to start all over again.

got it working now though :p

I think I need to try again after updating Java?? I tried just running jailbreak.jar but it still gave me an error.

Do I need to start from the beginning?

Step 4: Jailbreak your iPod Touch or iTunes activated iPhone

1. Close iTunes
2. Connect your device to your computer
3. On Windows, double click on windows.bat, on Mac, double click on osx
4. Follow the on screen instructions.

this is the step that screwed me up to get a 1.1.2 jailbreak. I know you need to go to a certain website to d/l the firmware of 1.1.2 jailbreak but where does this windows.bat come in? I have no idea where to look for that

I've gotten it to the last step, it won't reboot multiple times after the final jailbreak. I'm trying to use 7.6 and Leopard...
