Apple charged me twice for the upgrade, and I emailed them however they only emailed back saying that they would work on it..

Whenever I do that to my clients, it ends up being like a month later.. I would love to have my $20 back because I am a poor college student.

On 1.1.3 though, I actually really like it a lot and I am not missing too many of the Apps. Gmail is so much nicer you have the whole thing right in mail it seems like, because you have all of your folders and the All Mail option. I am really impressed and can't wait to see what is next.

Apple is done for a good while now, I think the next update's gonna be like in June/July.

1.1.3 iPhone downgrade

does anyone know of a way to downgrade a 1.1.3 iPhone to 1.1.1 in order to jailbreak it and still have an activated phone. Yes I have AT&T and my phone came with 1.1.2. I have downgraded it from there in the past in order to jailbreak it then upgrade back to 1.1.2 using oktoprep but am having some issues with 1.1.3 and iphuc.

The Gmail improvement isn't exclusive to 1.1.3. You could have Gmail set up exactly the same way with previous versions, just by manually setting it up as a "Other" IMAP account. I did, with 1.1.1 and now still with 1.1.2.

The only difference with 1.1.3 is that the Gmail option is set now by default with the same IMAP settings (since IMAP from Google wasn't available when the iPhone/touch first came out.)

1.1.3 might be a nice upgrade (up to each user to decide if they wanna go for it) but "Gmail being nicer now" really shouldn't be a consideration.

It's posted on the first page how to downgrade
However, due to there being know way to Update to 1.1.2 anymore you will be stuck on 1.1.1
I personally haven't tried it so use at your own risk ;)

I thought you could still point iTunes to a 1.1.2 file manually after jailbreaking a 1.1.1 touch? There must be copies of the 1.1.2 package floating around the internet...

If you are using iTunes 7.6, oktoprep will not work. Google for a 7.5 version and try again.

Can somebody say whether it is possible to downgrade to 1.1.1 and then update to 1.1.2 then?

As long as you have iTunes 7.5. 7.6 will let you downgrade to 1.1.1, but 7.6 kills oktoprep, which is necessary for the 1.1.2 jailbreak. Apple got smart.

Whoops, I just realized I never updated to 7.6, im still at 7.5 so thats why I was able to.

i don't understand why apple is blocking this stuff so much.... can't they just let people brick their touches so they can sell more of them?

Thats not exactly true. I have iTunes 7.6, and I downgraded from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 last night, Oktoprep'ed, and upgraded to 1.1.2 and then jailbroke it again.

Just a note for anyone who has upgraded to 1.1.3 and uses gmail with their mail app:

Do NOT click on the gmail auto config button in mail.app. If you do, then every time you delete an e-mail on your iphone/ipod, the e-mail will be deleted (not archived) in gmail. If you want your inbox in mail.app to function the same way as it does on gmail, look up how to manually setup an imap sync with gmail from your gmail home page. Check out gmail.com for more info, this is straight from their website.

;)
Oh I didn't know you could do that :)
Aren't those files listed the Restore ones? Does it not wipe the iPod clean?

But good to see it working :)

It does wipe the ipod clean and you will have to install your 3rd party apps again however you will be on 1.1.2 which is the best option out right now IMO.

Make sure if you are going to upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and would like it to be jailbroken still to download the firmware for 1.1.2 then you can point itunes to the file you downloaded by holding down the "shift" key if you are a PC user and clicking update in itunes. This will bring up a "browse" for file window and then you just select your 1.1.2 firmware wherever you saved it and as long as you have Okotoprep installed then you should be good to go.

1.1.2 Jailbroken FTW!

iphone 1.1.2

that may work for ipod touch but if you downgrade from 1.1.3 then upgrade to 1.1.2 from 1.1.1 itunes says invalid sim card. is there any way to fix this becuase i dont want to wait for the 1.1.3 jailbreak.

Hmm sorry I did not know you were using an iPhone, as it stated "iPod" in the quote I was responding to, anyhow I'm on verizon so unfortunately I can't offer any help here in that area...someone help a brother out!

after a lot of research...

through about 3 hours of experimentation and research i have concluded that as of now it is not possible to downgrade a 1.1.3 iphone (ipod touch is fine) and still have it work as a phone if you have bootloader 4.6 like i do and your baseband (modem) fimware got updated to 4.03 while installing 1.1.3. If you have bootloader 3.9 then you can downgrade the modem firmware by virginizing it at i.unlock.no after downgrading to 1.1.1. This will allow you to run 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 with the phone working again. If you bought the iphone with 1.1.2 then you have bootloader 4.6. I hope someone can prove me wrong and downgrade the bootloader to 3.9. there is a hardware hack available but im not gonna do that. Or better yet figure out a way to jailbreak 1.1.3. I did hear about someone using the safari video player to execute code similarly to the tiff exploit and gain access to the file system but they cant run anything else due to file permissions. If you are pretty smart and want to take a crack at it that might be a good place to start.

As frustrating as it is, I'll wait the 2-3 weeks or so until the SDK and apps are released. I only want an AIM app anyway, and maybe an MMS would be nice. It will be here soon enough. MyLocation and mutliple SMS recipients are enough to keep me busy for now. The SDK has already been seeded to developers anyway. I can wait a few weeks. Not worth all this work just to get MobileChat back that I haven't been updated in four months.

I have a June 29 iPhone. Will it ever be possible to downgrade if I upgrade to 1.1.3? I am on 1.1.2 today...
