don't risk it

if you're unsure about being able to get back from 1.1.3 then don't take the risk. I did it and now I'm stuck. The new features just aren't worth losing the jailbreak and you can do most of the new stuff with third party apps anyway. This only applies to the iPhone. The iPod touch can be downgraded from any version regardless of what it came with using iphuc.

You don't even have to use iPhuc. You can just use the 'home+sleep' ten-second-combination with 1.1.3 and downgrade.

I have a June 29 iPhone. Will it ever be possible to downgrade if I upgrade to 1.1.3? I am on 1.1.2 today...

If you arn't sure, don't try, because it probably isn't worth the risk. I would suggest asking his question in the iPhone section of the forums since they will probably be able to help you better.

I saw this build of 1.1.3 and it confused me, it is:

1.1.3 (4A93) Restore

I don't get it, is this a build of 1.1.3 as a jailbreak or what?

It was on http://wiki.iphonegameover.com/Firmware_download does anyone know what this is, because this could be it.

What that file is is the firmware version 1.1.3 that the iPod runs on. Those links are there because you can't get hold of older firmware once Apple updates it.
So in simple terms, that file is the most recent version of the iPod firmware, not a hack Im afraid

I basically bought my ipod touch to use at my new gym, they have TechnoGym machines which are basically $16 000 treadmills and other cardio machines that all have built-in ipod docks and built in 15inch touchscreens that display the iPod menus. All the TechnoGym cardio machines work great with my wifes new 3G Nano but with my touch 1.1.1 only music works. I bought the new touch AV cables and plug it in that way, I am hoping that upgrading 1.1.3 will enable my touch to work on the TechnoGym machines so I can return the cable and save my $60 and not have to carry it around the gym.

My 1.1.1 is fully jailbroken so if I upgrade to 1.1.3 and it doesn't work on the TechnoGym machines I'll be very pissed. Thats basically why I really want to find out if the touch will output video on the same docks that the 3G nano does.

I love the jailbroken apps on the touch but I did buy the touch for video output at the gym so I'd be willing to give the apps up if it would work on the TechnoGym machines.

If it is true that with 1.1.3 video output through older dock connector cradles will work, I don't understand the chip in the new cable? Does this mean that eventually someone will be able to extract the software part to enable video output through dock connector on ipod touch?

I think that it not being able to out video is to do with the touch not being fully compliant with 'iPod equipment'. Due to the very similar hardware and software to the iPhone, it shares it's drawbacks such as the one you mention.
If you are really serious about having the video at the gym then I would recommend trading in the touch and the cable and getting a nano. Not the best news I know but it's the only viable way I know of. Others may be able to help you out more than me however :)

Not really. If released now, Apple could rewrite the firmware before the SDK, just like they did before 1.1.3. Having a copy of the hack would make their job much easier.

isnt the actual reason for jailbreaking to get 3rd party apps BEFORE the sdk????????? geez:rolleyes:

No, you're not understanding. The SDK will ultimately produce better, commercial quality applications. Professional developers will have financial incentive to create excellent software. That will be much different from what we're playing with now.

If this new hack gives Apple the hints to plug the hole, then 1.1.4 comes out before the SDK.

I think it's wise that the develite team are waiting to release their 1.1.3 jailbreak. This gives us the possibility of having devices with 1.1.3 on them and all the new fixes, features, etc., as well as being able to watch rented iTunes movies on them, as well as being able to use enjoy the new SDK apps, as well as Installer.app for "unofficial" apps.

Release it too soon, and we may be stuck on older firmware, and only be able to use Installer.app for "unofficial" apps.

I'd rather hold out for the best-of-both-worlds, wouldn't you?

:confused:I don't see how that video shows a jailbroken 1.1.3 iPT. How are we supposed to believe that?

Because it shows him running installer.app, which means it's jailbroken. And he is able to move the icons around the screen, which means it is running 1.1.3.

Ok, I knew about installer, but not about moving icons in 1.1.3. I upgraded and was not very impressed, and didn't even figure that out with the icons, haha. Thanks.

why the wait?

why must we wait for the SDK to be released which will make installer app obsolete and even then we dont have to upgrade when 1.1.4 comes out. chances are apple will fix the hole in the firmware or our apps simply wont work with this jailbreak on it because its so different after 1.1.4. If it only took 4 days to jailbreak this why withhold it for a month just for the SDK? Please release it Iphone dev team!

Installer.app will NOT be obsolete. Remember that. Most likely apple will distribute apps, like iPod games, and for that, I still like Installer more.

Plus Apple won't know what to patch if they don't know what exploit is being used. They could work all day to try to close holes that aren't even used, but they have things to prepare. (like an SDK)
