Used my mini retina today. To setup just to use as a music player with Apple Music connected to our sound bar. Wow it feels so old all of a sudden. Plus I kept trying to use the pencil
Gotta agree that although I am thoroughly satisfied and impressed, I still have the lingering disappointment in the back of my head that they didn't go full monty and do the 12.9" 2732x2048 on this thing. It would have been the ultimate icing on the cake. Although I completely understand why they didn't, as they would probably sell only about a third the number of 12.9" machines if they'd done that...even though it would have been better for everyone, developers and users, IMHO...Although the new ProMotion is great, the dpi is way old. Very pixelated on the ipad pro close up
Putting my ipad mini next to the new pro puts it to shame where thr sharpness is concerned. Plus the animations for the UI seem a bit less stuttery on my mini. Its unusual, like the pro is dropping frames already

I'm the opposite, it was a relief that they kept the same dpi as the mini gets a little tiring over time with the finer elements of the UI. I do hope that more developers start embracing the new screen resolution though and it would be nice if Apple started to make better use of the increased space on the screen on both the 10.5 and 12.9.
You know what I find fascinating through all these iPad threads? Is how many forum members are considering or have considered of selling their MacBook/MacBook Pros to go full on desktop with the new iPad Pro's. This is Cooks vision as he stated and clearly it's working considering the new hardware and iOS 11 in the fall.
the mini is a device mostly used by young people, with good eyes. Bringing that kind of UI to their flagship iPad, IMHO, would have been a terrible mistake. I'm 30 and, although my eyes are still pretty good, using the mini makes them feel very tired very quickly.Gotta agree that although I am thoroughly satisfied and impressed, I still have the lingering disappointment in the back of my head that they didn't go full monty and do the 12.9" 2732x2048 on this thing. And honestly, it just makes sense...different sizes, different resolutions: the mini thing was mainly a workaround used back when iOS and iOS apps were tied to a set of fixed resolutions. Nowadays, luckily, things are much more flexible and apps are able to adapt and don't need to be rewritten to accommodate new resolutions
The irony in this comment is they both have the 2nd generation fingerprint reader...
The irony is it's still much more responsive than my 6s.
Okay, still not seeing why this is a concern to you. I’d certainly hope the iPad gets the iPhone 8 treatment soon enough.
I thought the sentiment was pretty straight forward.
Questions for the 9.7inch upgraders:
How much of an improvement overall would you rate it? 20%? 30? I am basically hesitant to upgrade unless it's more than 30% but I would love the extra storage and speed..
I have to agree here. I didn't expect such a small physical difference to look so much different. I think part of it is just that it's physically bigger, but I also think the minuscule bezels create a sense of "more space, less waste". The ProMotion screen is absolute witchcraft. I have no idea how they make this stuff happen while keeping battery life the same as before. And I really don't think I need 4 GB of RAM on an iPad right now, but in the not so distant future, it's going to be a necessity.I’d give it a 40%. The A10X improves what already was a monster. The screen is pleasantly and “quietly” bigger. It doesn’t look it at first glance, but once you actually start doing your day-to-day on it, it feels more immersive. Screen looks sharp and buttery smooth. Due to the smaller bezels its size doesn’t have an overwhelming presence. Admittedly, it’s borderline too much for me. Portability is a top concern in all my device purchases. Overall, I don’t regret my purchase. Now the sleeve on the other hand, can’t justify keeping it. Make my own pouch for that cost

Also, on the old Smart Keyboard, I felt like I had to angle my hands in a bit to type on it correctly. On this new one, I can type at a more natural angle. Though I will admit that the keyboard is the item that I think feels least upgraded. I already loved the 9.7" keyboard and had no problem typing as fast as I do on my full sized Magic Keyboard on my Mac. So the 10.5" Smart Keyboard is just what I already loved but slightly bigger and more comfortable.
All the iPads will support iOS 11s multitasking. What the person was referring to was the amount of useable apps that can be used while multitasking. If you’re in split view and pop up a third app, it renders both of those split view apps unusable until you close it. On the pro 2s (and 12.9 gen 1) all 3 apps will remain open and useable simultaneously. Not really a big deal but is a slight limitation when compared to the new ones and 12.9 gen 1.
Did that when the 9.7" Pro came out.Is anyone taking the leap and using this as their primary and selling their laptop? I'm very close.

Overall it's great. Worth the purchase.
Only complaints:
- No 3D Touch
- No raise to wake
- Speakers seem weaker than my old 9.7. Will be discussing this with Apple before my 14 days is up.
