this GM 10.7 version does it install as an upgrade over your existing stuff like it is supposed to do when it comes out on app store? Is it upgradeable meaning will software updates work?

had a quick look, cannot see an answer - so sorry if its been asked already.
when you download Lion, dose the Instalation launch automatically or can you install it at a later date?

M

I think that Safari's scrolling actually got a bit jaggy-er in Lion.. I preferred it in Snow Leopard.

I don't want my Magic Mouse's two finger swipe or my MBP's Trackpad 3 finger swipe to be full screen app change.. I disabled it but now I can't get the browser left/right function anymore.. grrr

edit: WOW nevermind I'm an idiot LOL

Some questions I have about Lion:
- What is the gesture to go back in the browser? In the past it was 3 fingers swipe on the trackpad or 2 fingers on the Magic Mouse, now I get the Dashboard instead. This is really annoying and I can't change the gestures in the System Preferences.
- After I installed Lion, the fonts in the Opera browsers are horrid. Everything is now very bold and I prefer how it was before. The other browsers aren't giving me a hard time.
- Is there a possibility to change the Dashboard button on the keyboard (F4) not to open the Dashboard, but the Launchpad instead?
- I had parallels desktop installed previously which I unistalled and I deleted the Win7 partition, but now when I open the Launchpad I find all the old icons to my windows bootcamp partition and don't have a clue how to delete them.

Looking forward to some answers...

Quick question: Is there anyway to view disc space when in finder?
As it is no longer displayed along the bottom of the window. Cheers.

It's called "Swipe between pages" in Mouse and Trackpad now. I was confused at first as well. Default for Magic Mouse is one finger which doesn't work in Chrome. I disabled the Full Page App swipe and switched it back to Browser.

Finder>View>Show Status Bar. Doesn't work if you're using TotalFinder right now. Goto Terminal>killall finder and you'll be ok

People, the default gesture for Back/Forward is now 2-finger left/right scroll. It's not that difficult.

Might have already been asked but how do you remove apps from LaunchPad? I have two Handbreak icons in there and I searched Google and it said Command+Option+Control then click to remove the app but when I do that it just launches the app instead?

Was there supposed to ba a new icon for Mail.app in Lion? Anyway i got the old icon but in much worser quality. It look like badly compressed verison of the old one. Does anyone got a clue how to solve it?

Thanks for the information, in the mean time i've found out that it only works in Safari, which is a pitty because I prefer working with Opera and Firefox.
Is there no way to use these gestures with alternative browsers or do I need to wait for Firefox and Opera to bring an update regarding this?

It feels like the whole Mac is running faster after the update. iTunes running 64 bit could be opened within a second and swapping between full screen apps feels great. One little thing I love is that the preview doesn't turn off when I switch to another program. It continues to play the music I'm previewing:)

Looks like you gotta wait till the browsers roll out their updates (for the one finger page navigation).
As nice as it would be I can live without it for now. I'd eventually like to move two finger swipe back to full screen and use the one finger swipe for page nav.

  • If you hold down the command-key when Spotlight's Quicklook popover is shown, an info bar appears whose content switches between the file's name and its location. To show only the location, additionally press the option-key
  • If you switch pages within a file's icon preview, and right afterwards open the file itself, Preview.app sends you to the proper page
  • TextEdit uses a search bar now, and has pre-defined search patterns to choose from
  • When command-tabbing through apps by holding down the tab-key, the selection now stops at the rightmost app instead of cycling through, as it did on Snow Leopard
  • Safari's web content process automatically quits itself about a minute after Safari has been last used, if no more Safari windows are open
  • If you drag icons out of a stack from a hidden dock, the dock now stays visible during the dragging operation.
  • Quicktime Player 7 runs fine

swiping

I am also a bit urgh about the whole swipe gestures.

In particular, I can two finger swipe in safari. After changing switching between pages gesture to 2 or 3 finger swipe (so I can swipe in finder), now I can also three finger swipe in safari. But the animation is different from two finger swipe.

Furthermore, I want to be able to 2 finger swipe in finder too. Why can't I?

I'm new but I figured out the swipe gestures. If you go into the trackpad settings under "More Gestures". Do these settings:
Swipe Between Pages - Three Fingers
Swipe Between Full Screen Apps - Four Fingers
Mission Control - Up Four Fingers
App Expose - Down Four Fingers
Launchpad and Desktop are enabled.

That seems to restore the three finger back/forward swipe for finder and chrome. The up/down three finger swipe that I normally used in Sparrow doesn't seem to work still. Anyone have any ideas in that?

Edit: Looks like the two-finger back/forward in Safari no longer works by doing this. Three fingers does back/forward just fine but with no animation.

I agree, I changed my "Swipe between pages" settings under Mouse>More Gestures to "Swipe with one or two fingers" and everything is back to normal.
Now I can't swipe between full-screen apps with my mouse, but I don't care at the moment.

Lion & host files

Sorry if this has been covered/answered already, but I have altered some of my host files and I am looking at installing Lion. Will this overwrite my files or will they stay unaffected? Thanks in advance for any info on this subject.

I wish there was a way to turn the 'bounce' off when you reach the top of a page. It works on iOS because you use your fingers and doesn't seem to impact performance. But on my Mac, I find it plain irritating!

Here is a question I have before upgrading:

When I bought my MBP couple months ago, it came with FaceTime, iMovie, Garageband, iPhoto, etc. Will I get those with Lion or I have to purchase them separately?

and is there instruction on how to do a clean installation of Lion?

thanks
