In my view, they would help out when using Apps in full screen mode, since you can't see your dock, you can't see badges etc, and you won't see a icon on your menu bar unless you flash over it for it to drop down. If you were to get a push notification you'd know that you have something new to deal with. Just my thoughts.

Good points, never thought of that

Gripe: Has anyone else noticed that there is no more swipe left or right to go backwards and forwards on webpages? I used that feature all the time... :(

Back and forward is now 2 fingers. But can be changed to 3 in system preferences, but it no longer has the slick animation.

Also, my friend is downloading Lion, if they turn their MBP off, they can restart the download where they left off, right?

Yes, it's there. Apps must be updated to use it.
Fair enough.

Apologies for the stupid question, but what benefit does push notifications bring

I thought the idea for them on iOS was because apps didnt actually run in the background so this filled the gap

as apps on OS X run in the background they can provide notifications like they always have

confused

I agree with you actually. What will exactly be the difference between push notifications and what we already have?

Surely that is an OS X push notification? Or is it something a bit more Growl-like?

I was thinking more along the lines of "You have a new twitter message" or whatever, since you can't see that sort of information when in full screen.

I'm using the magic mouse, and if I swipe left with 1 finger it goes "back"

If I swipe left with 2 fingers it goes to my desktop, and then again goes to dashboard.

Are you guys talking about using trackpads then?

That isn't a push notification, that is just an application giving a message that would appear offline or online.

Push Notifications come from Apple's servers, and an example would be the badge count on the App Store increasing automatically when there's updates available.

I'm not really sure why we need push notifications on the Mac - things like widgets in dashboard work fine, along with Mail coming an unread message count and IM programs doing their thing.

Push notifications on iOS are really just to combat multitasking and battery. Something that isn't really an issue with a laptop or desktop.

I believe there is an option in the System Prefs > Mission Control where you can check if you want the desktops arranged by when they were last opened. IE. I believe it always goes to desktop 1 because it's the most recently opened, you can uncheck this if I'm not mistaken.

No man there isn't an option, I checked :(

I think it is bogus that I can scroll with two fingers, scroll left and right with two fingers, but yet, I can not go back or forward with two fingers.
I have the black macbook and I think it is stupid they don't allow me to change the inverted style back to normal. yes Ill get used to it but still..

Not sure if it was mentioned but 1 finger double tapping the magic mouse zooms into reader mode similar to iOS on a webpage and back/forward page is now a 1 finger left or right swipe. Going between the desktop and dashboard is now the 2 finger left to right swipe and a 2 Finger double tap takes you into Mission Control.

You can change the scrolling back to normal in preferences under trackpad. You can also change it so you can go back and forth in finder or google chrome for example. Also in trackpad > more gestures and change Swipe between pages to "Swipe with two or three fingers"

You can only do it on MacBooks with glass trackpads. On the older models, you're SoL.

they don't allow that on the "old" style trackpad with the non-multi touch (yet it recognizes two fingers vs one). So I have kept it inverted on my macbook pro so I don't get confused

Push notifications will allow for automatic updating across iOS devices and (now) your Macs.

Are Quick Look plugins now working again in 10.7? I missed being able to preview inside of zips and folder when Snow Leopard broke it. Now it seems that I can see inside of zip files again.

Has anyone found a solution regarding being able to use multitouch gestures in Safari (or any web browser) that'll allow for opening and closing tabs, including switching between them?

I do enjoy the 2 finger swipe to return to previous safari pages, but I'd truly consider Safari a powerhouse if I was able to open and close tabs and switch between them all on the trackpad and not having to hit command+t or command+w...

I heard Multi-Clutch is proving errors for many people w/ Lion, as i'd imagine BetterTouchTool would be doing the same.

Does anyone know how to remove the profile name in the top right corner of my main task bar? For some reason Lion decided to slip it in there between spotlight and the time. No need for it for me.

Is there a way to configure auto save in Pages so that it saves versions of the document at a set interval? I'm currently working on a document, and Versions only shows 3 different copies of the document, each of them have been from when i have pressed CMD + S just out of habit.

TLDR Is there a way to set Auto Save to save a version every 5/10 minutes in Pages?

System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options > Uncheck "Show fast user switching menu as"

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet (57 pages!) but in iChat my AIM and Facebook buddy lists are now condensed into one (which is awesome).

I also noticed that when I used to put my iMac to sleep using the back power button it used to take a few seconds (up to 15-20) to shut the screen off, now it's instant every time (it would seem).

Press CMD and just pull it out of there. If you want to put it back, go into preferences < users&group < login options < show fast user switching
