This is cool, not sure if it's been mentioned but when you quick look a video with chapters, you get thumbnails of the chapters:

The dock will be gone in the next version of Mac OS, it's clear they're transitioning towards Launchpad :(

I hope you are wrong, I really dont want to use the launchpad

Lion could be the last version of OS X for me if Launchpad gets forced as main way of opening apps

I also hope they let you remove Launchpad from the dock.

I don't understand, I removed Lanuchpad and Missioncontrol by simply dragging them off the dock into the desktop and they poofed like any other applicaiton

There are plenty of applications that can be used for launching apps, and if you hate Launchpad, I'd suggest something like Alfred or Launchbar. They both do so much more than launch apps, and it would be a good way to get away from using Launchpad itself.

I have a question, but didn't really want to make a thread. Is Auto-Save, in Pages, supposed to create a new version every time it saves? Because i've been working on a document for about 90 minutes, and when i look into the "Versions Starfield" i only have Versions for the times I've pressed CMD+S, do i need to activate versions to create a new version every five minutes, or have i misunderstood auto save & versions relationship together?

Every time you press Cmd+s a new version of the document will be saved.

I noticed you can't gesture to show desktop and clear windows while in a full screen app

Yeah that's so damn annoying! You have to first switch to a desktop and then do the annoying four-finger-unpinch gesture. Hate it!

I need the dock for Stacks! And my email counter! How else will I know I have an email? What about new Skype messages? It's the only way I get notified.

The Dock won't be removed anytime soon. It may be moved to be only visible while using Launchpad (i.e. like the Springboard on iOS) sometime in the future, but I think that's even a far stretch to be honest. The Dock is still an integral part of iOS and until it is removed from there, if ever, it will not be removed from OS X.

A universal OS seems to be Apple's goal. Lion is step 1 and Launchpad may seem pointless to most users now, and it is for the most part, but it's just a way of smoothing the transition when they remove the dock from the next version of Mac OS.

Badges etc can still be accessed from Launchpad and you'll be able to activate it from any screen with a gesture. It's sad, but I think it's very likely this'll be the last version of Mac OS with a dock. The dock seems to go against Apple's current/new UI and usability trends.

Except that even iOS even has a dock.

Nothing to see here, move on.

I wouldn't think so but with their transitioning, it wouldn't completely shock me in the next few major system updates.

What I could see them doing is what is similar to the App switching on iOS. It would show the apps in the order of use or the most common ones you used and you would be able to remove one and another would pop in. Or if they did the apps running, there would not be another app to take the closed one's place but rather the dock get smaller.

Funny you should mention that, because I've been looking to see if getting rid of the dock is possible. It seems redundant with launch pad, and a bit of a hassle when using fullscreen mode.

I took all my apps off the dock and use it as an app switcher for open applications now, and Launchpad for launching apps. If my fingers are on the keyboard, I use Cmd+Tab and Alfred. Works well for me and the dock and Launchpad aren't redundant this way. The gestures vs. keyboard commands are redundant, but I like having both, since I can use whichever I like, depending on where my fingers are already when I want to do something.

Love Lion, but one thing I am unhappy with is running iPhoto '09 with Lion. I never felt that the upgrade to iPhoto '11 was necessary, so I haven't upgraded, but iPhoto '09 won't go into fullscreen mode in Lion. I think that's pretty weak.
