Mine hasn't arrive yet, but here are my reasons I wouldn't buy one again.

1.) Guests will mistake it as a trash can and toss their garbage in it!
2.) It's too freaking small and quiet and I won't be able to find it in my cluttered home office! Think, now where did I put my car keys problem everybody has experienced from time to time.
3.) Being as small as it is, I will most likely put up on the table and not on the floor where my current MacPro is. So I will miss not being able to shift my feet and kick out a cable during a critical task and then cuss up a storm.
4.) Now what am I going to do with all that extra floor space my old MacPro took up? I hate cleaning and now will have even more floor area to vacuum.
4.) My current Mac Pro has USB and Firewire ports on the front and the back. the nMP all the ports are on the back. That extra time required to get to the back of the cylinder could be better spent removing lint from my navel.
5.) I thought the cylinder was black and not reflective. Being reflective I don't want to be reminded constantly just how ugly I really am.
5a) I thought the cylinder was black and not reflective. Being reflective I don't want to be reminded constantly just how much of my hair I have lost.
6.) The constant smell of bagels coming out of the exhaust stack as some have reported, if mine does the same is going to give me a bad case of the munchies. I will gain weight as a result and will have to spend money on larger clothes that I really wanted to use that money to buy a new TB Raid Array. So instead of working faster, the more over weight I become, I am sure will slow me down instead.
7.) Pending shipment and delivery, spending way to much time checking my credit card account to see if Apple has charged it or checking to see if the order status has changed on the apple web site, which has cut done my time creating meaningless posts in this forum.:D

The lack of worthy Mac Pro since a long time plus my Mac Pro rev 1.1 pushed artificially to obsolescence by new OS not compatible, are why I'm considering to buy the new mac pro, despite there's certainly a billion reasons to not do it and finally switch fully on Windows side.

So I wonder if the forum couldn't help build the list. It's not simple or fully objective because it can depends of the context, usage and user. But anyway.

1 - Too expensive up to be ridiculous.
2 - Just one crap internal drive with a ridiculous capacity.
3 - Shutdown button in the back, probably the first computer to ever do such idiot thing.
4 - Forced 2 graphic card and no clue it will ever be really useful a day, just vague possibilities.
5 - No dvd drive.
6 - A box supposed to be put on your desk as if it was more handy than under the desk, ridiculous.
6 - No delivery date engagement.

....

1 It is expensive, not the entry one, but the one I "need" is 8 core and D700s. BUT its a great machine for my needs. Working with 5K and 4K files from my RED EPIC camera. As a "PRO" one man shop its a big investment. I would expect it to last 4-5 years tough. Dosn´t meal it ridiculous in my book

2 TB2 is fast, and it make it easy to switch all my storage between my MBP and MP,
It´s not at the moment

3Shut it down using your mouse then, what´s the problem?

4 2 cards are great for video work. I have 2 in my MP already

5 I burnt my first DVD in 2 years today, so not really and issue in my book

6 Show it´s a great demand for this ridiculous machine

If you could only come up with 6 points, 2 of which are just plain silly (3&6) IMHO it can+t really be that bad, can it?

ill help you out on why not to get one right now.

1. The usb 3.0 is poop but will be fixed. I think thats it. :D

No DVD drive? But however will I play movies mastered with the state of the art technology of the 90s on my multi thousand dollar pro computer!

I mean, I could buy an external drive, but c'mon, why should I have to do that for such high end technology?

I went through the same thing when my new car didn't come with a tape player, and boy, I was mad about that too.

I am disappointed because I was fully expecting a well-thought-out list of 100 reasons I should cancel my just-about-to-be-fulfilled Mac Pro order.

Sounds like someone wants one but any afford it so s/he is trying to convince himself why it "sucks"...

And how.

The guy should just buy his Windows 8.1 box and have that strange sense of frustration that it isn't as good as Mac OS X but he will keep trying to convince himself otherwise.

I am disappointed because I was fully expecting a well-thought-out list of 100 reasons I should cancel my just-about-to-be-fulfilled Mac Pro order.

After reading the expansive list of reasons I am considering cancelling my order. Apple took payment yesterday but I still have the option to cancel. I am tonight weighing up my options as time is running out. I am struggling to find a reason to continue with my order given this well thought out list of reasons. I am even considering getting rid of my MacBook Pro too as it clearly can't even read all 100 of his reasons - I can only get as far as the double 6.

If only I hadn't read this thread. I should have stuck with my Sinclair ZX Spectrum! :)

1. It depends on the model and the usage. Yes, raw CPU power of the quad Mac Pro compared with for example, the 2.6Ghz BTO Macbook Pro released before it is lacking considering the price. One other way of looking at it is the Macbook Pro offers very close CPU performance to the Mac desktop in it's price range.

2. If you look at your internal storage needs, you'll notice the OS on very fast drive makes the whole system perform better. You'll also notice that media files use little bandwidth and can be stored externally easily. Even specialised needs like multiple RAIDed SSDs for high end video work are already taken care of by external solutions.

3. No problem on my Mac Mini. Wouldn't have a problem on a Mac Pro either.

4. I agree. It makes up a large proportion of the cost. People have some very deluded views on how much value this has for uses other than very niche video and graphics software. If there was a BTO option of only having 1 GPU and swapping the savings into additional RAM or a larger PCIe SSD, I'm a lot of people would.

5. I agree with Apple's decision to remove optical drives. I've used my DVD maybe twice in the past couple of years and that was externally with a USB adapter. Remember the "Bag of hurt" of including Bluray on Macs? Well now you can use any USB optical drive you choose externally and unlike the GPUs, you're not forced to pay for something you may not need.

6. I don't know about you, but most of my desk area isn't taken up by large CRT displays. All that space would make for a good home for something that takes up even less area than a Mac Mini and the system could be put behind an LCD quite easily accounting for the size of LCDs or LCD desk stands. This also solves your power button issue because you could position it in a more convenient way if it's still on your desk, yet not in plain sight.

6 (or 7). Some people are experiencing delays with their orders, it's a new product, I wouldn't expect those issues to be forever. They might have under estimated demand.

3 - Shutdown button in the back, probably the first computer to ever do such idiot thing.

Considering that pressing the power button in OS X Mavericks no longer can prompt the shutdown menu (unless I'm mistaken, and that's a feature laden to only *specific* Macs), it can't be used to shutdown the system anymore (as they ship with Mavericks, yes?).

I have to use OS X and Windows and my monitor (Dell UP3214Q) works at 3840x2160. I don´t benefit from multicore, but I need 4K-Support. Is there any reason NOT to buy the nMP?

I am not buying a nMP because I do not use my computers for design any more, but I had to chime in anyway because this is silly.

1: For what folks have been saying regarding parts and the cost of previous nMPs, it's not expensive for the segment this was made for pros.
2: Most macs have one meh option for an internal drive.
3: my 2010 iMac has the shut down button the back.
5: Simply buy one that's vastly superior to Apple's superdrive
6: If I bought a new MP I would appreciate having it on my desk (just like my iMac and probable Mac Mini.)

So where are the other 93 reasons not to buy one?

Whats wrong with the usb?

It shares one of the TB (top two?) lanes, so transfer speeds can be slower than the MBP. Apple is really pushing thunderbolt for external storage, etc. With that in mind, USB3 max speed was probably not a priority when they started dividing the bus lanes.

Hmmm...

I'm gazing at my nMP right now, and it is clear that the power button and all the ports are on the left side.

It would, however, take no more than 2 seconds for me to reengineer the system so that the power button and ports are on the front.

Problem solved!!!

the video cards make absolutely no sense for me in a CUDA-dominated world (3D, compositing, particle simulation) - heck, I would hate to have amd gpus right now.
but times will change, I guess.

Times are. OpenCL is the future since it isn't reliant on one company's product. It works on AMD, Nvidia, and Intel. Right now AMD crushes Nvidia so it makes sense. Many apps that support CUDA either have released support for OpenCL or have announced future support.

Let's see at this list for a moment, shall we ?

1. Tear-down reviews said it's under it's retail cost (for the parts it includes). Regardlesss, it's a pro machine, so it cannot be looked at as an expensive desktop PC.
2. Internal drive comes with various capacities. Apple said they want the expansion to be done externally. Agree or disagree, that's their plan.
3. iMacs also have their power button on the back. Again, though, it's a machine that it is supposed to work for several days without often shutdowns.
4. True. Apple has many things to prove here.
5. Macs have no longer DVD drives. External ones are available.
6. You can still put it under your desk if you need to. Being smaller was never a problem for a computer.
7. Obviously they messed up moving the production line back in the US. I believe they will catch up soon, but they messed it on that part.
