What is more “telling” is that you don’t realize if Apple had discounted the X by $100 as they usually do, it would still be $899...more expensive than the XR with newer technologies and still costing more than what average consumers would consider paying.
My point is I got a phone a year ago that's damn near as good as the new model that's at the same price point, therefore that $1000 is giving me at least 2 years use and if I wanted something new after that, I can sell it and get some money back. (the selling part was added to counter any IUP guys saying they would only have $1000 invested after 2 years AND have the latest phone) The XR isn't part of this discussion.

Yeah lets..

Could've continued the 8/8+ as the entry level, X as the next level up ( discounted, not discontinued ) etc etc..

When a company completely eradicates a *new* design from it's line up within 1 year of launch, it's telling!

All it says is that there isn't a huge difference between the X and the Xs. They are too close in terms of performance/features and it would drive customers towards the cheaper model. It's a smart business decision by Apple.

Some of these comments on MR lately. "Sell a kidney" I mean cmon. I know it's a joke, but if you can't afford $1,000 then you can't and don't buy the phone. Or there are PLENTY of devices well under that in price iOS and Android; from $100-500-750 etc. There is no gun to your head to buy anything in life.

Complaining about it is like complaining why cant everyone own a lambo, GT3, lake house, etc. Either work harder to afford it or stop complaining about the price and dont buy it.

It's affordable and good value to some and not to others. To me for $40-45/month its a drop in the bucket as I run a business off it and pay my bills and eat using it; and a deductible business expense.

Any new iPhone purchased over the past several years would fit this description, but at a lower price

I’ve realized that most people only see it from their side. Not the other side, which is the business side. I guess if they had their business, they’d sell their new phones with the same technology at $300. Forget about any profit.

Yea, I have noticed that also. I am an Apple fan and like their products, but I understand they are a business first and foremost and don't give a crap about me. Once you accept that, complaining on a forum about this or that becomes pretty pointless. If you don't like a product, don't buy it and move on.

Simple as that buddy. The whole point of running a business is to make money. As long as people are willing to pay, they keep going higher. I would too if it was my business. People who are angry shouldn’t blame the people who can afford it. They’ve worked hard for their money and can spend it on whatever they want. I’m sure some have a limit but others are just mad because they can’t afford that high price.

Of course. It's design, R&D, manufacturing processes, the parts, advertising, stores; everything is factored into each device cost. Face ID probably cost tens of millions of dollars in R&D and testing to develop that they need to recoup via device sales.

if you want a parts bin phone from a no-name company who doesn't do R&D or marketing just copying the rest of the current devices 6 months later then there are plenty of sub $500 phones out there that fit the bill. You wont get any stores you can bring it to if it breaks either, maybe send it back to China via mail.

Apple is the only brand or company where public complaints are met with fellow consumers defending them from a ‘business perspective’ though lol. In every other consumer sector people fight for lower prices and better services but Apple have a fan base and it unlike anything else I can think of? I mean I like Apple products and have bought them for years but I draw the line at claiming to be a ‘fan’.

I’ve bought Breville kitchen appliances and LG televisions for some years too but I doubt if my toaster broke and I complained on the internet I would be lambasted and told; ‘Breville make £380m a year so your complaint is insignificant’ lol. I do have to pinch myself with some of the loyalty on here at times.

Apple is just that good.

And it doesn’t make it any less true that Apple, first and foremost, is a for profit business and answers to shareholders.

It's not the point of how much Apple made or anything broke.

It would be more like complaining that a Breville espresso machine cost $600 and you want it for $400, just over maybe what it cost to make with company expenses/labor/advertising/R&D, because that's all you're willing to pay.

And then going online to post over and over how angry you are at Breville and they are a ripoff as if then they are going to drop the price for you. Rather than going out and buying a $400 coffee maker for what you want to pay/can afford that also makes coffee.

That is the business aspect really being referred to. How much the company is worth or profits is irrelevant really to the item price at issue; one can either pay the asking price or get a cheaper alternative.

Rather I would propose that it is an irrational purely emotional reaction some people have to Apple issues not grounded in reality.

I am not sure what you are getting at here. I just don't personally see the point in complaining about business decisions that Apple makes. The only way to make an impact when it comes to their decisions is to not buy the product. A product breaking is one thing, a business decision is completely different.

My point was pretty clear, it’s an admiration of how powerful Apple is as a brand. It’s very difficult getting people to like and buy your products. It’s another thing getting it to the point where it is adored and defended on a massive scale.

Unfortunately not buying an expensive product only works if the vast majority do the same. I’m still using an iPhone 6S and that hasn’t got me a brand new iPhone for £700 since lol.

Brevillerumours.com, i’ll set it up.

I am still not clear. Where was I defending Apple? I said I see no point in crying about their business decisions. I either buy it or I don't.

I don’t think I specifically talked about you apart from quoting your post and referring generally? I agree with most things you say.

Ah okay. I mean I agree with your ultimate point, I just thought I had said something to where I was specifically defending them. They run a great business, although I may not agree with every decision, I understand why they do it (most of the time).

There will always be those who get the newest and best. But any 2-3 year old iPhone is now so good that it’s less imperative to upgrade.

I wonder if this pricing is Apple responding to the trend of a large percentage of people holding out longer. Price gouge those who are going to upgrade anyway and realize big profits that way.

I have the 8 plus and am very satisfied with the performance, but got myself a x max anyway. Let’s see how that second gen Face ID works out.

Just for discussion sake - Apple never called it a second Gen Face ID

Seems like the A12 has sped up the process, thanks to the neural engine enhancements, but the actual tech is apparently the same as before

If it was a second Gen Face ID, you can bet apple would have let us all know in the keynote the way they did with Touch ID or with anything that shows an improvement “second Gen butterfly keyboard” etc... They love their numbers to compare and show improvements

The processing of the data is probably the bottleneck more so than the hardware as it takes a small fraction of a second to snap an image and the dot projection.

Thats a good point - I have no doubt it will be faster, but Im just saying - there might be confusion if say next year Apple gets on stage and says "here's our second gen face ID camera", as they always seem to say if some feature is "second generation"

The XS is a much better deal. Anybody here that says they would rather pay $1,000 for the X over the same for the XS is crazy.

I’m just happy they didn’t change the design. I don’t want to have an iPhone that looks outdated.

I also am glad that a lot of people are not experiencing any slow downs with the iOS 12 update. But we shall see what happens to mine. Hopefully no slow downs. I’m updating tonight.

We know this already. iOS 12 was specifically a performance enhancement update.

This thread pretends the XR doesn't exist.

And that A12, 4GB RAM, IP68, 1/2.5" sensor, etc. are worthless.

Carry on.
I've got to admit you were right. The other day i disagreed with you on the budget iPhone having an a12. I thought they would put an a11 to it.
