You'll get tired of it, I promise. Then you'll wish you had your 11" back. The 12.9" is really cool at first, then it gets old because it's big and cumbersome and so goofy looking at coffee shops. Good luck with your purchase.
What looks weird at coffee shops are the workspace chiselers who claim a table for hours on end for the price of a single coffee, with power cords snaking across the floor, their whole normal home desktop arranged complete with mouse and mousepad in place, talking loudly on some conference call for everyone to hear.

Not someone sitting quietly with an iPad in their lap that is basically the same size as an 8.5”x11” sheet of paper.

I just bought a iPad Pro 12.9" M2 1TB, and was delivered yesterday.
Already have the iPad Pro 11" M1 128GB and plan on keeping it.

I didn't purchase any accessories with the 11" Pro. But I got the magic keyboard, pencil, and smart folio for the 12.9" Pro, I went all out. The 12.9" Pro is totally doable for taking just about everywhere like the 11". But I do wish those 14" to 16" rumors were true, cause this is going to be mostly my indoors iPad.

For me personally, I'm comparing the 12.9" Pro to the Tab S8 Ultra. They're both so different, for better and worst. But if I had to choose one, I doubt I could decide.
Besides the bigger screen noticing much diff between the 2 iPads?

this is why I bought a good coffee machine and buy good beans lol

I have both the 11 and 12.9. Different devices entirely.

For those that claim the 12.9 is too big to carry around, it’s the size of a standard magazine. Is that too big? You must have the lightest and smallest EDC bags ever. Sure, the Magic Keyboard is a beast, but not the 12.9 iPad itself. It’s tiny.

As for weight, I don’t use tablets holding them straight out in front of me. They are usually resting in my lap comfortably. It’s a very natural position and a great way to casually sift through emails, Slack, whatever without sitting at a desk.

The 12.9 iPad works BETTER for travel than most laptops. A 15” MacBook is essentially unuseable in coach. At least you can use the iPad when in tablet mode. Dunno about with the Magic Keyboard as I stopped using it.

I do a lot of split screen with the 12.9; the 11” is too constrained for this type of use. The 11” excels at watching a movie at home or controlling music.

I forgot to mention split screen! I love it on the 12.9 and found the 11" was too small for it typically.

I mean, there's literal competition because most people can't buy both. They have to choose. So, people debate and have to decide which is best for them. It's natural and normal.
It was not not meant as a reply to you but to the inevitable 11 inch crowd. Your experience should not be questioned by those who prefer the 11 inch. Likewise, those who prefer the 11 inch should not be questioned by 12.9 inch crowd. Your post was full of positive feelings and it was immediately refuted directly or indirectly by the 11 inch crowd. That is what I oppose.

If Apple releases the 16 inch iPad it will be the usual sweeping statement but this time from the 11 inch and the 12.9 inch.

Had a 2018 12.9” iPad Pro…
Too big and heavy… gave it to my wife which she is still using to this day at work, to be honest, it’s still very fast. Battery still holding up as well.

This year, I got the iPad mini… this time it’s too small… ended up just using my phone instead. Now it’s also ends up in my wife’s hand for bedtime Facebook scrolling…

Last month I bought the 11” for myself… which is a great device, the perfect size, good for view documents and easy to carry around.

Btw, I did use my 2018 12.9 pro and sidecar with my MacBook when I had the 12.9”… but it’s honestly not that useful unless you multitask a lot. and it’sa very expensive secondary monitor, just saying

Yes, a magazine is too big. I have to fold A4/letter-size paper in half before I can stick it in my purse. The iPP 11” fits in my purse.

I’d need to use a backpack or laptop bag if I wanted to carry the iPP 12.9”.

The brightness level and HDR is better on the the 12.9”.

Battery life is better, if you don’t use max brightness.

Apps load slightly faster, but not that noticeable. I have thousands of pictures from my mirrorless camera, and I noticed it loads the thumbnails quicker, whether local, external storage, or the cloud.

I just got it, so I haven’t tried much. I‘m sure exporting video might be slightly faster as well.

For everyday usage, almost no difference.

I got a 12.9" IPP for work - I was thinking it would be far too big but I have ended up loving it. I will never go smaller now. It's just the right size to be productive. I also have a MBA (and a MBP) and I always reach for the IPP first. The only reason I use the MBA over the IPP is my work's security policies make some tasks impossible.

Soon I will be changing roles/workflow and I am hoping extended screen support is as good as I am hoping it can be and I will use only the IPP.

My experience is very similar. Once I started using the 12.9 it no longer felt big but the extra screen size is indispensable.

My employer’s IT policies require the use of a windows (the horror) laptop for very specific tasks. Otherwise it’s all IPP.

You realize that people are allowed to have different preferences, right? The "it's the size of a magazine" line is actually why I bought the 12.9" without trying it out first. I've never regretted swapping it for an 11". For many people the 12.9" is the perfect size. For many of us it is not.

lol this is me, been using 12.9 for 5 years now, now i got a 11inch suddenly i found myself using the ipad alot more often since its not so big and bulky.

For me, the 11” is too small. When I switched to the 12.9” Pro, the improvements to multitasking and apps layout (try iWork, damn, two different worlds between 11 and 12.9”) clearly emerged. The Pro as a work device is 12.9”, stop. The 11” is an iPad Air with ProMotion

even 12.9" is not big enough for multitasking

Where did I say people weren’t entitled to their opinion? Absurd. Sensitive.

I asked if carrying a magazine was too large. @rui no onna sensibly answered.

I carry a very small cafe bag. It’s not a laptop bag or a backpack. The 12.9 iPP fits fine along with a spiral notebook, a leather folio with a small notebook, and a Rhodia pad.

Different sizes of iPad almost turn them into different devices with different use cases. I'd never use my mini in the same contexts as my 12.9" Pro. Nor would I ever use an Air/11" Pro/standard iPad in the same contexts as the mini or 12.9" Pro. It sounds crazy, but the three different sizes are better suited to their own use cases. Though, I will say it's a little bit nuts that there are now four models of iPad in one size category (10.2-11") and one in each of the other two (7.9-8.3" and 12-13").

Went 12.9” for the MiniLED screen. I do prefer the 11” as a tablet but besides that I would never go back to it. The 12.9” is a nice laptop alternative now for me and I don’t have much use for a tablet alone but the tablet capability is there if I ever want it.

I'm right there with you; I had a first gen 12.9 and recently upgraded to the M1 on a steal of a deal. I love the huge screen (wife has base iPad, dad has 11"), and neither compares. A bit more bulky, but the extra real estate is amazing. Enjoy!

I completely agree with the OP. Gave my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro to my daughter and used an iPad 6th generation thinking, no big deal to go smaller. Big ***** MISTAKE! Now I had to buy an M1 iPad Pro 12.9" (on sale at Best Buy today only $300 off if you are a My Best Buy member). Can't wait to go big again.

Congrats and that’s a great setup. I used the 10.5 iPad Pro for a 2 years then went to the Gen 3 12.9 iPad Pro and have never looked back. Now using the Gen 5 12.9 and I love the miniLED display. I’ve had some outspoken frustrations with iPadOS recently, but I always enjoy using my 12.9 iPad Pro, especially with the Magic Keyboard and Pencil. I’ll probably always own one.

And for the record, I particularly enjoy using mine at coffee shops. It’s productive, and I enjoy the multiple ways of using the interface. Tweak a few more things with Stage Manager to make more macOS like windowing, and we’re almost there.
IS it ok for air travel ?
