I have been giving the 12.9 a try and I don't know what it is, but it seems way more square than my iPad Pro 10.5. It must be an optical illusion because they are the same 4:3 ratio correct? it's especially noticeable in landscape mode. The iPad seems too TALL. For whatever reason, the iPad seems more proportional in portrait mode. Weird huh?

Probably doesn't help that I have been trying the 11 inch for the last week, which I know is wider than most previous iPad. Still though, my old 10.5 doesn't even seem quite so "square."

I thought I was for sure in on the 12.9; but trying it now, I am not as sure as I thought I would be. I definitely need to try it for a few more days. (I have been using the 11 for about a week.) But there is just something so perfect about the 11 that it took me trying the 12.9 to see. No doubting the screen is amazing on the 12.9. If I kept it, I could see myself using portrait mode a lot more for web viewing.

As someone above was kind enough to tell me, and what is absolutely true, is the typing is better on the bigger one with the bigger keyboard. The screen is not bumped nearly as much! I worry this factor alone may sway me more than anything towards the bigger one even though I really don't even doing that much typing.

I've also noticed that I need to swipe more to get the cursor across the screen on the 12.9, even though I turned the speed up.

I'm glad I am finally truly giving both sizes a fair try. Boy is it a tough decision though. It's very easy to see why the voting for both sizes is so even.

I've been debating whether to pick up an iPP 2018 11" soon or to hold onto my 6th gen iPad until a more budget friendly minimal bezel iPad w/ FaceID comes out? I use my current iPad for watching media, surfing the web, emails, reading.

An 8th gen budget model comes out this fall?

I started with the 12.9, and pretty quickly traded it in for the 11. The bigger screen is great, but it's pretty much impossible to hold it for reading/watching movies for any extended period. I mostly use mine to read and take notes in class, and rarely need to use it with a keyboard or with multiple apps (although I often use Slide Over). So it really depends on what you want the iPad for...if you're trying to replace your laptop, I would go for the 12.9. If you want to supplement your laptop/phone, go with the 11.

keep us posted! I’ve been so set on my 12.9 since it’s my only computer, but agree, the 11 seems just right in so many ways and still totally fine as a main computer for my needs that I’m starting to flip flop again

the 11 is great for ebook reading. For video watching, I don’t mind popping it into the keyboard stand. 12.9 for split screen no question, as well as long typing

my other use case is split screen handwritten notes in GoodNotes with a PDF medical journal or textbook on one side and for that, the 12.9 seems perfect and the 11 quite cramped

This is probably the best summary that I have seen within the realm of arguing and debating between the 11” and 12.9” model. If you are trying to is the iPad as an “in-between“ device, the 11” seems the best way to go. Laptop replacement, the 12.9” would seemingly fit the bill more so.

My opinion is different. Again it is just a matter of personal preferences. I used to have a 10.5” then an 11” and now a 12.9” which I use mainly as a tablet (sometimes as a laptop replacement). I do prefer the 12.9 even in bed or couch. I would prefer the 11” only in case of daily mobility (train, bus, airplane etc).

While not an 11, after trying an Air 3 with two keyboards (Slim Folio and Combo Touch), I went for a refurb 12.9/64 received yesterday (shipped same as order date; received 2 days later). I am in love with this thing especially coming from a Mini 5 (which is still a great little rig). I knew that the 11 (guessing based on the Air's size) would not be enough of a wow to want to keep it.

I use iPads only at home for non-work stuff: reading, videos, games, writing, general fooling around with apps. The heavy lifting is done on my Mac Mini (i7/64/1TB). I've got the 12.9 in a SKF and it's all I need; I can't justify needing a trackpad (although testing one on the Combo Touch was fun). I only use iPads on my lap atop a pillow both in the living room and in bed, and the stability of the 12.9 in the SKF is very good for my needs. I thought it might be too big in bed, but it's just right I'd say.

The 12.9's extra screen space is so nice on my eyes, and for some things I don't even need to wear my reading glasses. It's the first Pro I've had since the 9.7, and I didn't realize the size is slightly smaller than the earlier 12.9, a reason I had resisted going large. The most impressive thing so far are game graphics, sound, and streaming content. I don't find it heavy at all and am only using it in the case, not naked. I can see upgrading to future 12.9s too based on this experience.

I’ve made the decision to get the 11” 2020. I have the 12.9” 2018 and had been considering getting the 11” this year, that was until covid-19 and we all stayed at home anyway and as I was at home, the 12.9” was great.
But then I wanted to get the new Magic Keyboard, but had a hard time deciding whether to buy it for the 12.9 or wait until I get the 11”. It would be a slightly better experience on the 12.9, but then the trade off is weight and I realised that I’d end up leaving the MK at home when I took the 12.9” to work anyway and I have a MacBook Pro at home for when I need a keyboard. So I had a hard time justifying the purchase of the MK for the 12.9. So now I have decided to get the 11” now again this year instead of putting it off until next year. So now, I will get my 11”, more portable iPad now and more portable MK to go with it.
I’m so excited now. I’m getting the 11” 1TB with cellular in silver. I haven’t had silver for a long time..I was always buying space grey, but the silver has caught my eye this time. I’m also getting the cactus Smart Cover for when I use it without the MK. I already have the pencil (2nd gen). I will keep my iPP 12.9 2018 for around the house, for when I want the bigger screen. That may be overkill, but sometimes I use both together and watch video on the larger one while using the smaller one. I consider that the 11” will be my main iPad as I use my iPad as a tablet mostly, but want the keyboard for portability (e.g., taking to the office to use beside my work laptop).

yes, it is highly subjective. Some points are really bullsh*t. I have read almost every review about sizes and I went from Ipad 12.9 Pro 2020 to 11” and I am going back for 12.9”.
Multitasking on 11” is really bad. If you like it more than 12.9” it is only your point of view. For me this is the biggest reason why I am going back for bigger size. The same with readings and having Ipads in portrait mode - in this case really dominates 11”.
I do not like your review at all. It is the same as trash review of one youtuber who claimed that 12.9” has better battery life than 11” .. It is the same ridiculous..

Same here
I went from 12.9" 1st gen to 10.5" iPP, then found myself having to squint my eyes and pinch the screen to read most stuff, went back to 12.9" 2nd gen iPP after 2 months.

While the idea of carrying something smaller and lighter is novel, the experience of using it is not. I use products to use them, not to carry around, and to me the 12.9" gives a far superior using experience than the 11".

I don’t find the multitasking on my 11” to be significantly worse than the 12.9, and mostly I think that comes down to multitasking being bad in general on iPad OS.

Normally with more screen space I would have more windows open, more content, etc. On the 12.9 I just have two apps with more space for each in a forced set of aspect ratios. Doesn’t help as much as it should.

Well, as you have said the review is subjective. Everyone’s opinion is also this - subjective. You like 12.9” better, that’s fine for your workflow and usage. You don’t like the review, fine - I do. Calling it bull crap is also a subjective comment. I do not see this as the ”same as trash review of one you tuber...” It’s their perspective and yours.

EDIT: Double quote.

I do prefer 12.9“ also in portrait mode. In my opinion the 11” is better for reading novels only.

Welp made my decision boys- kept the 12.9 2020. You just cannot go wrong with more real estate- the reality is that the marginal increased surface size of the 12.9 doesn’t make it THAT much less portable than the 11. As iPadOS improves, the bigger screen and bigger keyboard are going to favor the 12.9

I did the 11 last year and sticking to 12.9 this year !

Yeah I completely agree. To fully enjoy the coming versions of iPadOS (more and more an hybrid with laptop capabilities) 12.9 is the way to go.

No, it us not subjective. 12.9” uses in multitasking desktop mode apps, 11” only one in desktop and other in compact mode. There is nothing to discuss. As I wrote I have read almost every review and read almost every comment on youtube about sizes on youtube. I do like 11” size(that is the reason why I have it right now). But from the first day I come back with 11”I am having issues with it. The true is that on 12.9” everything works.
On 11” there is problem with gestures because when you want to go from down to up, you everytime display the dock. The same when moving in videos, the bottom line is displayed so bad that it is hard to change time. Sound is not so good as on 12.9”. Writing with diacritics is painful on 11”. Aspect ration is in some apps very bad. There are a lot of small things on 11” that you found out only when you go back from 12.9”. I would like to keep 11” but it would have to be improved in software way..

Whats the reason for 4:3 (12,9) and 10:7 (11)?
Is 4:3 for the 11"-MK too tight? (i mean the keys)

In relation to the 4:3-ratio (12,9) to the display-size, the 11" shows a movie with 2,35:1-ratio "larger". But not real, because the difference of display-sizes ist too big

Example:
A 12,9 with 4:3-ratio shows movies larger, as a 12,9 with a crazy "1:1-ratio" (because of the black bars)
And in relation the 11" has the better display-ratio to movies, but not perfect, as many Android-Tablets

I think, a 10"-tablet with 16:10 shows movies in real larger, as the 11"-iPP. Or at least the same size?

It is subjective. Your opinion of the blog entry IS subjective. You just point out facts, which is good and solid. Again, though, your OPINION of the review was and is subjective. I actually found it very informative.

some apps like HBOGo does not support aspect ration of 11”Pro. So there are bezels on four sides so the screen is much more smaller

Well another update from myself. I’ve done another flip and I now plan to get the MK for my current 12.9” 2018 instead of getting an 11” and getting the keyboard for that. I’ve flipped back and forth on this a number of times.

I guess that I’ve read more and more opinions from people trying the MK with the 11” and then deciding that they want to upgrade to the 12.9”. I already have the 12.9”, so getting the MK for that will save some money. Plus, I have my iPP 10.5” with ASK if I need extra portability or I decide to read a book, etc.
I’ve just heard so many glowing reviews of the MK for the 12.9” now that I think it’s the way that I should go now.
