Not had a look but how does the weight of the new 13" compare to the current 11"?

Good question

2022 iPad Pro:
1.50 12.9”
1.03 11”

2024 iPad Pro:
1.28 13”
0.98 11”

The new 13” is just about halfway in weight from the old 12.9 to the old 11. Kind of crazy.

I’m back to this dilemma as well, I have the M1 12.9 but I’m tempted to go back to the smaller size because it’s more manageable. Maybe I’ll order the 11” first and see if I like it and return it if I decide the 12.9” is better.

I have run a two iPad set up for years - either a regular or Air, and an iPad 12.9". I was all raring to go to upgrade my 12.9" because the new pros are lighter weight, have the new camera. etc.

But my current M1 iPad Pro will last for several more years, has two rear cameras (versus 1 for the iPad Pro), and works with all my current accessories.

So why not just get the new 11" and keep my M1 iPad Pro indefinitely?

Anyone else having a tough time deciding this year... I've tended to alternate between larger and smaller sizes, currently rocking the 2018 12.9" which I've loved. I was thinking of going for the 11 inch this time round to use more as a traditional tablet, but the weight reduction of the 2018 12.9" is bigger (1.39 -> 1.28) vs 11 inch (1.05 -> 0.98) and the extra thinness just makes it look so appealing.

I've ended up ordering the base model of both, and will keep whichever I end up using more :)

Happy iPad day everyone!

Count me in as yet another person split down the middle on this...currently have m2 12.9 and with magic keyboard. As we all addressed it's so heavy carrying 12.9 iPad Pro + 14 MBP on vacation (feels excessive). Going back to 11" with these new models hoping the ease of picking up repeatedly daily offsets the screen size reduction and slightly smaller magic keyboard. Also, Space Black is THE color for this gen right?

Nice - yeah I’m leaning more towards the 11 inch also, agree that taking the 13” IPP and 16” MBP on trips feels a lot! Have gone space black to match the M3 MBP - should look cool together (I hope they’re the exact same shade)

I really struggled in 2020, got both, decided to go for the smaller 11”, 4 years on its too big and heavy to be much more portable than my MBP, so this year I’m going 13” for the bigger screen as 99% of the time I’m using it at home. TBH I think anything over the iPad mini is too big to be comfortably portable

Just thinking out loud - I didn't realise just how much heavier the mini-LED 12.9" was compared to the LCD model from 2018/2020. The mini LED model is 1.50 pounds, meaning that the jump to the new OLED model is huge for any current mini-LED owners, but a lot smaller (and more proportional to the 11 inch weight reduction) if you have an older 2018/2020 model.

Does anyone have any experience with how the M series chips run in the 11" vs 13" in past years? I'm hoping to play a good amount of Resident Evil 4 on the new iPad (should look glorious with OLED) and I'm wondering if the larger chassis will buy some extra headroom for cooling/heat dissipation in order to avoid throttling for longer?

I have the latest 11” iPad Pro, and it is amazing. Great for media consumption and general computing. It means I can leave my 14” hooked up to my studio display at all times now, I love it. The only downside is the OUTRAGEOUS price of the Magic Keyboard which is a necessity if you plan on using it as a replacement.

I agree. It’s actually only 4 ounces heavier. Lol Definitely going with the 12.9”.

I wonder how many peoples decision is based on price difference as opposed to size and weight as the weight somehow seems to be bothering people. A sheet of paper is pretty portable to me. ;)
I went With 12.9 cell version cause I knew I wouldnt Be upgrading for awhile

I'm coming from a 2018 iPad Pro 11 64GB cellular version. Upgrading mainly due to running out of storage. I went with the 13 inch 256 GB space black cellular version + Magic Keyboard + Apple Care. Wondering if I should've stuck with the 11" but the drop in weight and the thinness caused me to give the 13 inch a try.

I have struggled with the 11” vs 12.9” debate since both sizes were released. I currently have the M1 12.9” and M2 11”. I thought that I’d use the 11” more, but find myself still using the 12.9” the most. Over time, I’ve become more accustomed to the size.

I’ve ordered the M4 space black 13” standard glass 2TB w/cellular, black Smart Cover & pencil pro. I plan on getting the black keyboard a little later on.
My M1 12.9” will be passed to my husband (he’s been using my old 10.5” and is keen to have my 12.9”).
I’m keeping my M2 11” for portability, but don’t plan on upgrading it going forward. I’ve realised that 12.9”, now 13”, is the size for me. My husband and two daughters also pick 12.9” and now will all have one of my used 12.9” each.

I also have both M1 iPad's. With trade in it's £1,400 to replace both with the new M4 11" & 13".

As someone who has used both, it really depends what you're doing with it. Buy the 13" if you intend to replace your laptop with it, or use it mainly on a desk. Buy the 11" if you plan on supplementing your laptop with it, or if you're using it more on the go, notably more in the tablet form factor.

In 2018, I bought the 11." As it was a laptop replacement, I wasn't really happy with the size, but kept it until 2020 and got the 12.9." Which, I think I am more happy with. Eventually bought the M1 12.9" (which I eventually traded for a MacBook, anyway).

I'm more open to trying the 11" again as a laptop replacement since external display support is available. Things don't have to feel so cramped at my desk. I'd have to try my mother's 2018 11" iPP side by side with my spouse's 2020 12.9" to really get the feel of which I like better. Which were both ironically my old iPads, would be weird to use them together.

Four years in the past I was struggling between 12.9 and 11”. I went to 12.9” which had few more advatages but to be honest I never get used to it.
So right now I bricked my iPad Pro M1 12.9 Celular so I am going for iPad Pro M4 11. And looking forward to finally have portable iPad again.

11” for me. I have the 12.9 and it’s just too big. There’s times I wanna use it but I just settle with my iPhone 15 pro max because I don’t feel like handling it.

It’s great for those that utilize its multitasking since it has the larger screen, but I enjoy the more comfortable and easy to manage smaller iPad. 11” however is far from small and is plenty big enough for how I use my iPad which is lounging around and using it casually. I can’t wait to go back to the smaller form factor! :)

I got a 12.9” M2 a couple of years ago but kept using the old 11” iPad Pro for everything except video editing work. The bigger screen is great, but it’s much harder to use for most daily tasks. I can type on the 11” just like I do on a phone, but not on the 12.9”, nor can I reach the bottom and top of the screen just by sliding my hand over the edge. I’m probably going to buy the 11” M4 and keep using the 12.9” exclusively for video editing.

For that reason, I’m going with the 11” iPad Pro 1TB and Cellular.
