I'm going to wait until next week and read the reviews when they come out. On Wednesday I'll go to the Apple store and play with them. I'll leave the store without a new iPad. Then I'm going to wait and read all of the inevitable posts complaining about the something on the new iPad that sucks and see if i want to wait until the next version or not.

Went for 12.9, after loving the 10.5 form factor.

I was umming and ahhing about it but I decided that the 25% footprint reduction would swing it for me. Plus, I use mine with a keyboard 99% of the time, and will appreciate the increased real estate for what I do I think.

Note that for a same task, the 12.9 inch will use more processing power than the 11 inch due to the 12.9 having more resolution

I have seen this happening on a very intense game when I compared my 2017 12.9 inch to the 10.5 inch. There is no lags on the 10.5 inch while there is some minor lags on 12.9 inch

I'm wondering if that will actually lead to better battery life for the 11 even though the 12.9 has a bigger battery capacity.

I just don't understand people that get the smaller one because of the price difference. Sorry but at that point it doesn't matter to me and I'd wanna make sure to get the one that satisfies me 100%.

I'll be going with the 11/1tb/cellular because it'll replace my 2018 15" pro as a personal device to take on business trips. I want to be able to carry it in my briefcase in addition to my work laptop without cramping it in there or adding to much weight.

I've got a desktop setup at home as well as the big laptop so the 11" will be solely for reading in bed or taking on business trips

Today I've gone back to deciding that the 11" should be good for me and that portability is the ultimate upside to the new iPad and has been the reason I've been waiting to upgrade in the first place. I think I'll use it for a week and see how it goes but that's where my head is. Haha

I have the 1st gen 12.9 and I’m getting the 12.9. I primarily use it for sketching so the large screen is nice. I got the cover for it yesterday and it feels more portable then the 1st gen does.

I’ve gone back and forth between colours and now sizes it’s unreal, cancelled three iPad Pro 11 orders so far lol.

Is it true the 12 inch one is the same dimensions as an A4 piece of paper?

I'm thinking the 11 is too similar to my old 10.5 to feel like a major upgrade, I sold my 10.5 iPad Pro and MacBook Pro 13 to get one of the new ones, I’m now leaning towards the larger one now.

its approximately the same size yes. If I had to replace a laptop, the only option for me would be the 12.9. As a companion device in my case Im going with the 11"

I can't decide which one to get - can you help me make up my mind ?

Thx :)
Same. I can’t decide; getting 256gb either way, 11 inch LTE or 12.9 WiFi. I’m replacing a mini 4 16gb which I mostly use as a hotspot while I drive to and from work and a WiFi 9.7 iPad Pro from a few years back. If I get the 12.9 I have to keep the Mini 4 as a hotspot still. The 12.9 is too big to carry around to use as a hotspot regularly.

I feel you brother... Can't decide on size, capacity, color, and whether to get LTE or not... And the clock is ticking to release

Yes, the new 12.9" is roughly 8.5" x 11" which is the size of a standard (Letter, not A4) piece of paper. If you also got rid of your MacBook I would definitely go for the larger model. As for the rest of the decisions I can't even make them myself :p

I went 12.9 because I wanted an approximation of a laptop screen. I’ve always gone with LTE. My feeling is why have a mobile device without almost anywhere connection to the web. Of course I use WiFi when I can. You could also look into tethering to you phone.

Funny for you maybe, but it's driving me nuts! A very first world problem when all is said and done:D

I went through this last year...and ended up buying both sizes! Fortunately, I got to expense them for work to test some mobile apps my company is developing. This year is my own money, so it's a different story. I did not preorder as I need to see them in person before deciding.

Thanks re the dimensions.

So I can ascertain the following,

12.9 if you don’t have a laptop
256GB is the best trade off between price and size (unless your rich or a professional working with large image or music files)
Space Grey looks better lol
LTE if your away from WIFI a lot and don’t want to tether to your phone.

Think I’m set on 12.9, 256GB, LTE in Space Grey as I’m not a pro but need storage for films during trips abroad as I’m away a few times a year (plus I’m not rich lol), the extra screen space will be welcome as I’ve sold my laptop to fund it, and LTE just for the hell of it , as it’s good to have the option if required.

My missus is getting me accessories for christmas like the keyboard folio etc so no need to factor that in.

Decision made!

Too funny, I’ve been torn as well on size and colour. My current iPad Pro is a 12.9” 256GB, and the previous one was 9.7” 128GB. The 9.7 felt small considering it was my primary computer, and now while I’ve absolutely loved the 12.9” screen for the past 17 months, it’s always felt a bit big / heavy / unwieldy to use as a traditional iPad for casual browsing, so I’ve been pondering the 11” for the past several months.

Anyway, definitely leaning toward the 12.9” after so many early hands on reviews say how much smaller and lighter it feels. The screen to bezel ratio is also going to look pretty insane on it. I am waiting to see them in store on Wednesday (both for size and colour), though pretty sure I’m going space grey 12.9”.

Also - based on your prior post about it replacing a smaller iPad and larger MacBook, I’d say the 12.9 is a perfect choice.

Yeah thanks. I’ve literally just searched the house for a US sized letter so I can check the size, I even used the measure app to confirm it, my missus is ready to section me lol

Here's the full video for anyone interested. Best video I could find that shows the 11" model
https://cheddar.com/videos/first-look-at-apples-two-new-ipad-pros

That was very helpful — thanks.

I’m not going to trade up from my current 10.5 because the cost (especially with the extras I’d also need to replace) is far too high.

But when the time comes to replace my 10.5 I think I’ll stick with the smaller size.

I sold my MacBook a few months ago and now use my 10.5 as a laptop replacement. (I have an iMac for when only macOS will do.) The larger sized iPad is now as expensive as a laptop and just as big. I prefer the smaller form-factor for ease of portability.

Incidentally has anyone worked out if the keyboard folio can be used as a stand with the keyboard folded away somewhere as you can with the current ASK? Or can it only be used in laptop mode?

I don’t think so as in the hands on videos, the front cover of the keyboard folio (the portion that houses the keyboard) is a single piece that does not fold at all, whereas with just the smart folio its the usual tri-pane that can ‘roll’ up into the triangle as a stand. Kind of surprised me when I saw that.

I am also undecided. I currently have a 9.7” iPad Pro but it seems so small. And the 11” is nice, but I’m kinda really jonesing for the 12.9”. I think I’m gonna go for 12.9”

Big reason for me getting the 12.9

It’s my laptop type replacement and to be used on my desk and lap. I felt my pro 10.5 was used less due to my max being big enough for most use cases when relaxing on the sofa

I have both previous gen and rarely use the 12.9”. This time is different though because the form factor is much smaller so I didn’t pre order, I’ll try them out and see which one I’ll go for.
