I had the 11” while still having my 10.5 as I was most likely going to hand that one down, but due to the slight difference in aspect ratio, the 11” would not display a full landscape slide like the 10.5 did. One of my main uses of my iPads are to project slide (well PDF versions in notability) for presentations. The difference was ever so slight, but just enough to be annoying. Before holidays, I took the 11” back and was only using my 10.5, but I just recently caved in and purchased a 12.9 with folio keyboard and of course pencil as I use that for presentations. I will keep the 10.5 for around the house when I am looking for that smaller more traditional tablet experience. I wish I could have one of each but just way too expensive for that. My 10.5 still have apple care for another 6 months so I’m sure I will keep it at least that long. The 12.9 better be good for 3-5 years so next update will be my smaller iPad in 18-24 months.

Either way, can’t go wrong with either. I wish Apple made the leather sleeve for the new ipads.

Also doesn’t help that I watched Infinity War on it already and it was AMAZING On the large screen with the loud speakers.

Yes since now you have it, you want everyone to believe in your philosophy !!
I’m not understanding what you are saying??? Have what??? I have the 10.5 and tried the 11 and came to that conclusion. Now I have the 12.9 and am still within the 14 days but plan on keeping it.

I’m pretty late to the game, and I haven’t voted, but I just ordered an 11” LTE (yeah I’ve been nervous about bending and all that, but I have to have LTE, so I’m giving it a shot). This thread is really making me wonder if I should’ve gone 12.9.

I had the 1st and 2nd gen 12.9, sold the 2nd gen early last year in anticipation of the size increase of the 10.5. My 12.9 just never wound up leaving the table/desk, and I was doing more on my phone when sitting on the couch. The iPP was basically a desktop for me.

I have never second-guessed getting a smaller size until now. I know they’ll be releasing new minis (actually I guess it’s just speculation), and I also have a 2018 iPad as well (which I was gonna pass down but COULD keep). It makes me wonder if I should get the 12.9 to use more as my desktop, and still have a portable device that’s bigger than my phone.

Honestly, if I could’ve kept my XS Max, I’d probably be fine for using my phone because it was such a good size, but the OLED was killing me. I have the XR (and I love it, but it’s just not quite big enough to do lots of reading).

So I have an 11” coming today, and it took me a while to decide to go back pro and not just keep the 2018 iPad and be happy with it, but now I’m second-guessing myself again. Ugggh.

Please report back, if the cellular 11" that you got was a bent device or not ? Curious to find out if 2 months after the release is it still coming bent or has it improved ?

I second-guessed myself for about a month after I got mine. I even went and tried the 12.9, but it was just too big for what I needed it for. My wrists were aching after using it, and it frustrated me that there wasn't more on the screen than what was on my 11. Plus, my MacBook Pro is 13 inch, and it felt a little redundant.

In my case, I'm not using the iPP as a desktop replacement. If I have a lot of typing or work to do, I go to my MBP. If I was using the IPP for work at a desk, then I'd go with the 12.9, mostly likely with the upcoming Brydge keyboard or something similar.

My iPP is the device that's mostly for me. I read, surf the web, and do more reading. Since the semester started, I've started using it in class (I'm a college prof) for attendance and a few other things, and I hope to continue to find ways to integrate it into the classroom.

Regardless, I'm very happy with the 11 inch, and I hope you will be too! (BTW, both the 11 and 12.9 that I tried were LTE; no bending issues at all.)

I am also on the fence as my First gen MBA is being "taken" by my progeny. 99% of my use is email, sketching, and a YouTube/Netflix here and there paired with portability. When the MBA first came out, it was a game changer as far as my real day usage and having to move around.

In the end, the ability to use larger accessories when the iPP is in landscape mode has pushed me to the 12.9...

Thanks! I think I’ll be pleased with it. I’ve had the 12.9 before, and I know it was definitely bigger than I liked for portability. My plan all along was to go smaller.

Right now I’m using a 2018 iPad on my desk and Having no issues with size, so the 11 should be fine.

My desk is set up has a full-size keyboard, and I may wind up sticking with that, and just having a thin case on my pro, so I can still keep it light and portable.

That makes sense. I have a full size Bluetooth keyboard I use at my desk. With the added weight of the full folio, I don’t know that I would want that on a 12.9 anyway, so I would likely stick with my keyboard set up I currently have. I think I’m going to do that with the 11 inch as well, at least for a little while, and that solves the problem of a smaller keyboard.

I’m fairly small though, and I have small hands, so I don’t think using the smaller keyboard would be a big issue if I decided to go that route.

Ive Been trying to find every excuse not to like my 12.9 2018 that I bought about 7 days ago to maybe find something that would save me some $$ and justify my other iPad staying in my lineup. (coming from an 10.5) I tried the 11 I figured out that it wasn’t much more upgraded than my 10.5. I had a first gen 12.9 and got rid of it because of the portability issue so I was hesitant to get the 2018 12.9. I can honestly say that I am so glad I got the 2018 12.9 honestly. I picture the ipad (in my case uses) as more than adequate for ALL of my needs and actually plan on never buying a MacBook or laptop again. Having the extra screen real estate to split the screen has been wonderful as I have enough room to lay the iPad on the table split the screen watch school stuff and take notes on the other side without issue. Maybe the 11 will be good for that too (I don’t know). Is it large still? Resounding YES but its not overly large to the point where it cripples its portability. I think the 11 is nice too but I’d try the 2018 12.9 if your thinking that you want a larger screen as the new footprint is really nice.

Well the 11” pro arrived today. I played with it a little, but I won’t actually do anything major with it til my case and screen protector arrive. I’m THAT paranoid.

Laid it flat on my coffee table, and it doesn’t have even a hint of a bend (I took pics!) It definitely looks amazing! I like the size - noticeably more screen area than the regular 2018 pad I’ve been using, but not much bigger overall, and the weight feels about the same.

I’m definitely in a situation where the iPad is my only “computer,” and, with that in mind, I guess going back to a 12.9 would be reasonable, but honestly, if I can get the portability AND the desk usage with the 11”, it’s a win-win.

I can’t wait til my case and protector arrive so I can really play with this thing and see what I think overall!

I originally wanted to get the 11" but cut both sizes out of cardboard and then decided 12.9" is a better size for me. I want more space for Procreate and proper size split view Apps. Was surprised at the weight but already got used to it today after having bought it yesterday. Awesome device overall, hopefully the rumors about iOS 13 focusing on iPad is true and it will become even more awesome!

I bought a 12.9 with the view to replacing my laptop (and 10.5" iPad) with it but found iOS too limiting. The new form factor is amazing though in terms of size and weight. The only caveat to this is that for the things I use my 10.5" iPad for all the time - web, email, videos & content - around the house, i.e. on the sofa, bed, kitchen etc, I found the new 12.9 too unwieldy. Don't get me wrong, the larger screen is great, but doing this stuff I never found it comfortable and it was too heavy.

There's posts on this page from people who would disagree with this as they've had the exact opposite experience, but that's maybe all you need to know about this question - there is no right answer and you probably need to try it for yourself.

That is why it is best to get the 12.9” with 1TB so you can use it for 2 to 3 years and hence use with iOS 13 and 14 as well.

I use my iPad Pro 12.9 as a notebook replacement and tablet. All my daily needs are met.

For my on the go device I have my iPhone XS Max

Is the one you have got is a LTE variant ? I am hoping, Yes ?

Plus the fact that foldable phones will be released which can turn into a 8” or 10” tablet also is one of the factors to go for 12.9” model.

Welllll I doubt that will be for awhile, at least at the mainstream level. The ones I’ve seen have all been way too thick and clunky looking. The tech has a long way to go.

But in this case there is no “better version.” It’s a choice between two different sizes of the same version. Hence the dilemma.
Not sure what they meant, but a lot of people do seem to think bigger = better. o_O
What they ignore is that smaller also = better.
Big screen size vs portability. It’s completely subjective!
(In my case, 12.9 fits my uses better.)
