This thread will never die! I initially ordered an 11” from Amazon but after playing with the larger model in store and decided to get a 12.9” instead. I think the there is definitely some trade off between portability and screen size but the larger size is better for me to take hand written notes.

Why would it die? It’s a growing epidemic between deciding the 11” or 12.9”.. lol

With iPadOS I gotta feeling a lot of people are going to go with the 12.9” instead of the 11”. I cannot wait until the flood gates open for developer support...

I just feel the 11 looks too similar in size to the 10.5. If I’m going to buy a beast then I better make it known that I have a beast and a 12.9 cannot be mistaken for anything else!

I just picked up a used official apple 12.9 3rd gen folio keyboard- man, now I feel the IPP is even more usable. I think it will take over my older Surface Pro 3.

Now to look for a 2nd gen pencil for cheap...maybe prime day will have deals on that and other ipad accessories.

I think with iPadOS coming out, iPad sales will surge. Additionally, it basically tells other companies to stop making tablets because it will never be as good (I am looking at your Google)

Samsung is close and ahead in many areas; widescreen OLED, better speakers, full mouse support, desktop mode with as many resizable windows as you want, USB as standard, GPS without needing LTE, expandable internal storage

The question for the S5 will be how does the new S-Pen compare to the Pencil 2.

I saw someone on the subway using the 12" iPad and it was ginormous. I know it can have a lot of usage, and it has its fans but using it upright as a tablet - its HUGE.

I was contemplating a Surface Pro/Thinkpad tablet, both are 13" and in all honesty the way I use my tablet those would be too big. I tried (and returned) an iPad pro a couple of years ago because it was just too large to hold upright. Its a great tool for when you're using it on a desk but upright - I think you can get hand/arm fatigue pretty quickly

Yeah I can’t use my 12.9 on anything but a keyboard

11 inch is a great size for the sofa or traveling...

11 is way better for an all-around device compared to 12.9. I find the 12.9 too heavy to hold with 1 hand in reading mode while standing.

Been a long road for me. I had the 10.5" last year. After seeing the reduced size of the 12.9", 3rd gen I decided to give it a go. The extra size and weight weren't quite justified at the time. So, I brought it back for the 11". I've been running that for 6mos., but after trying iPadOS for a few days, I'm convinced the extra screen real estate can be taken advantage of with the new multitasking features. Found someone willing to trade for the larger one. We'll see how it goes.

I can already tell I'm gonna miss some of the portability, but I'm planning on not carrying my Mac around with me every. So, it might be worth it.

So, how does that work? Is it a straight trade?

What Mac do you have? Have you tried out the SideCar feature? I have a iMac, used it a couple times... haven’t bought a Apple Pencil... but considering it because of the feature.

Obviously, I don’t have TouchBar... so it’s kinda odd that there’s TouchBar on the iPad.

I threw in $300 to go up in size and from 64->256GB.

I have a 2018 15" MBP, Sidecar works great...it's the 'biggest' reason I was willing to switch to the larger size. Having a 15" and a 13" display quickly accessible when I travel helps with my workflow a lot, I also can keep my laptop docked upstairs and have my iPad 'sidecar-ed' to it to use downstairs...it's pretty handy.

You do know Apple makes a smaller size.

Yes and I own that smaller size (10.5) since my post mentioned the iPad pro. Sadly that doesn't run windows
That would be considered a Pro for some... but yes obviously can be a con for other circumstances. However in your OP you only complained about the size/weight/bulk of the 12” iPad (whatever that is.... 12.9”?) You can get iPads in 7.9”, 9.7”, 10.5”, 11”, and 12.9” which is a pretty wide diversity. Granted the 9.7/10.5/11 are all extremely similar in weight/size.

Damn. What's the longest distance at which Sidecar works?

REALLY want to finally take the plunge on the new Pro after seeing iPad OS but fighting the whole 11 vs 12.9 and also is now the right time to buy? Any fall updates? Any sales?

Leaning 60/40 of 12.9 over the 11.

I just returned my 11 Pro for the new Air. Face ID, 120 Hz, the magnetic pencil, and landscape stereo are cool, but the hardware power is overkill for me and I’d rather save $400 CAD. The accessories market for the 10.5 Air is also much more mature.

Micro Center has $180 off certain models and Best Buy has $175 off

Not sure what a Microcenter is and I just checked the BB app and seems sake ended.

Good thing is deals are out there just need to determine size and what sale makes me take the plunge.

I moved from the 9.7" Pro to the 12.9" Pro with 1TB S.S.D. /8 GB Ram, wicked fast, nothing slows it down, added a Brydge Keyboard,(amazing),chomping at the bit for OS 13,and beyond for all the features
6gb ram. Doesn’t come in 8. Glad you enjoy it.

I finally ended up pulling the trigger....

Wanted a 11" 1TB Wifi/Cell brand new (For AppleCare+ eligibility ) version for a long time. Have been looking at pricing and have noticed a trend that was hard to ignore.

eBay was the best route for me to watch pricing. While watching and throwing out offers, it seems not only are there very few 11" versions of this kind listed, they are generally priced $300 more than the same 12.9 variant. (New)

I test drove the 12.9 last week and used it for about 5 days. It was glorious in many ways! Although, like many have stated, it's a tad large. I did install iPadOS, finding it to be nice, but extremely buggy in its current form.

Hopefully I can adjust to the larger size without issue after prolonged use. I'm 50/50 with office and field work. I'm positive it won't be an issue at the office, but I'm curious how it will be full time out in the field with clients.

Sigh... This is what I get for being cheap :)

($1,200 12.9 1TB Wifi/Cell New/Sealed)

Will report back soon.
